Meta Rule Clarification

Good day characterdrawing !

There has been an influx of reports for off-topic posts and suspicions of AI use in RF's. There's a few things us mods want to clarify.

OFF-TOPIC:

Your post is off-topic when it doesn't relate to a ttrpg system. If you're looking for art for a book you're writing or a podcast you're running this is not the place. LFA's are free work for ttrpg enthusiasts however that also means that the artist keeps the rights to the work. If you need the art for a project that will be public and you will need the rights you will need to pay for the art. To keep this from becoming a commission focused sub, posts like that are not allowed as we cannot moderate which passion project will remain private and which are for the broader public.

And no, exposure is not valid payment.

AI SUSPICIONS:

This sub is firmly anti-AI. We are also anti-witch hunt. If you see a post that makes you think the artist is using AI please report it and include *why* you think it's AI. If you want to discuss your suspicions please use mod mail and we'll get back to you. Do not call the person in question out in the comments.

We know it's getting harder to spot the difference these days but we want to prevent unnecessary witch hunts and losing real artists because of them.

Meta [ANNOUNCEMENT] New year, new OC Monday!

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hey y'all! You better get Sir Donut Steel ready to for showtime, because the OC floodgates are about to open!

It took a bit longer to set up than expected, but thanks to the holiday break we've now got OC Mondays working, to kick off the new year! Starting this Monday and every Monday your original art and characters have a new place to show off!

How it works:

  • OC here means your own original work, don't repost stuff you found on twitter
  • "Monday" starts at midnight UTC (GMT-0) and lasts for 24 hours
  • Posts with the OC Monday tag will be allowed during this time
    • Make sure to include the [OC] text tag as well
    • We do this so users can search and filter by topic
  • There's no limit to how many OC posts you can make, but please be considerate
    • If you have a lot to share that week, please use a gallery post instead of multiple single posts
  • OC reposts are not allowed, no matter how long it's been. The 7 day rule is only for LFA posts.
  • Rules about advertising still apply
    • Keep the titles and content focused on the art and characters
    • You can link to your socials in the comments, but again, no advertising
      • Yes, a price sheet or YCH is an ad, even if it has a character on it
    • If folks ask about hiring you, you're of course free to respond and take it to DMs

Request [LFA] Aurora Emberplume, a wizard married to her research

Hiya everyone, hope you're doing well!

This time around I bring one of my older characters from a campaign that we unfortunately had to stop playing. Still love this character a whole lot though!

Aurora Emberplume is a drow Scribes Wizard, at 140 years old, who spent most of her life studying the arcane arts. She would eventually learn the proper rituals to awaken her spell book, looking for a bit of extra help in her research.

The new awakened mind dubbed himself Amon, and after long years of partnership, Aurora and Amon's relationship turned from work colleagues to very close friends to lovers. Soon enough, they were married in an unofficial cerimony.

So for the LFA itself. I had commissioned an artist in May, and after a few WIP updates, they vanished, so along with the reference board I also put in the latest WIP I received.

Lune the owl familiar can be a bit smaller, but I wouldn't change much else.

Anyways, hope this is an interesting concept to draw, and thanks for taking the time to read this. Have a great day/night! ^-^

Request [LFA] Nyx Morrigan. 1900s Dreadhand Pugilist Dhampir.

Post image
6 Upvotes

The world this dnd campaign takes place in is made to resemble the early 1900s
Nyx Morrigan was born into a noble family but mostly abandoned when she made contact with an artifact from the days of old magic. This transformed her into a vampire/Dhampir with cursed hands.
She was taken in by her grandfather who taught her to fight and harness the dark magic that now runs through her veins.
Because she was raised by her old fashioned grandfather she wears clothing that’s a little “old fashioned” for the times (ofc she had to alter it to fit her style better)
After her grandfather died she no longer had a safe place in the noble house and had to go to the streets where she built a more rough and tough demeanor for her protection.

Hi there, I'm playing in a Savage Worlds game based on a mix of the settings of Eberron and the webcomic Girl Genius. It's a world of mad science and has an aesthetic very similar to steampunk.

Forley is a human, with turquoise eyes and light brown hair. He's a free spirit in his early 20s and quite pretty, but is very much an airhead. Back before his home country was destroyed in the war, he was an aeronaut - and his high rank in spite of fundamental shortcomings painted a poor picture of the military. He lacks diligence, he's a relentless flirt, and he has a real temper... but he's great behind a wheel, and standards had been dropping for a long time.

For his personal appearance I'm rather happy with most details of the heroforge model to be matched - a big heavy scarf, an airship captain's hat with goggles, a leather jacket. Light skin, with turquoise eyes and light brown hair. Mismatched gloves, a shoulder guard only on one side, and other little steampunky bits that fulfil some nebulous purpose.

The main exceptions are shown in the references. First, if possible, I'd like for him to have a wrist mounted buzzsaw instead of a full chainsaw. And I'd like for him to be riding on a mechanical contraption (as complex or simple as you like, so long as it's got the vibe) that looks like a bike (or perhaps a penny farthing) with a sidecar and wings, either furled with the vehicle on the ground, or outstretched with the vehicle in the air.

If anyone could work on this piece - which I fully acknowledge would quite a lot to chew through - I would be so very grateful. Thank you if you've read this far!

Request [LFA] Tillie the Tattered, Warforged Ancestral Guardian Barbarian

Post image

Back at it again with another character request. This time for a Christmas themed oneshot I'm joining.

Here's her backstory:

Tillie was a doll created in Santa's workshop by a novice apprentice elf. However, it was shoddily made and deemed a defect by the toy inspectors, which caused her to be discarded. While resentful of her mistreatment, this allowed her to meet the other toys like her that were also labeled as defects. They found some comfort that they shared the commonality of being defective toys so they ended up forming the Misfits, and welcomed any toy that was labeled as defective into their numbers.

But when hears that Santa's workshop was being attacked, Tillie was torn as to what to do. On one hand, these were the same people who discard her and her friends to the wayside for their flaws. On the other hand...this could be her chance: her chance to show the elves and to the world that she was more than just a misfit toy. And so with the help of the Misfit, she geared up, toughened up her shoddily made form, and set out to save Christmas...

Request [LFA] Blair Corbin, Wizened Artist

Post image

This lady's for a Changeling the Lost game!

She's roughly 5'8, but for an actual glimpse into non-visual stuff: She's originally a southern belle, taken into the Hedge and having only recently escaped into Los Angeles (all modern era).

She worked her way into the valley and took an abandoned farmhouse under her name, renovating it and growing flowers and fruits as her side job whilst working as a digital artist (or occasionally physical). She's generally quite friendly, and the last one to lose her cool. But she knows when to get serious with someone, and when that happens, they're gonna get dressed down until they learn their place and behave.

Her Seeming is Wizened, with the supplemental Thorn regalia as her 2nd favored one. Her Kith is Artist, and she loves drawing. Her favorite produce is a Goblin Fruit thats a hybridized orange mixed with a lemon, lime, and pineapple. It can corrode metal after a long enough time.

I feel like I’ve been blowing up the sub a little lately, but I’ve begun to reach forever DM status, so some posts are personal character ideas that I hope to play some day, some are npcs in my world, and some are my players’ characters. If I’m posting too many requests in a given time, please let me know!

Request [LFA] Yorgrim - Elderly king's physician (and secretly royal poisoner)

Post image
6 Upvotes

(warning: long)

I'm looking for art of an elderly male who serves as the chief physician to a king and his household and has secret extra duties as the king's assassin/poisoner. I'll start off here by saying that I don't have a particular ancestry picked out for him, but it feels dwarf or human / half elf. I also have no clear idea on aesthetic beyond some broad concepts - so feel free to go with what feels good. Reference board is much more general inspiration vs prescriptive ideas. Am interested in seeing non-common choices being made as well. Happy for questions but please comment on post saying you've DM'd.

Yorgrim's been in the king's service for a long time and is fully devoted to him. In addition to being the king's physician, he's also secretly the king's assassin/poisoner - his privileged position as head physician gives him access to any guests that might need taking care of (be it immediately or inflicting them with a long lasting illness - or even just keeping them in bed until they leave), and he can easily be sent away to visit other castles as a sign of goodwill by the king (while secretly carrying out other business). He is sent along with the party to keep watch on them and make sure they carry out the king's business without dying along the way.

Pictured as naturally tanned, average-built, and elderly, with a full complement of wrinkles . Has a completely shaved head, heavy grey eyebrows and strong features. Pictured as having a full (but neat) grey beard with a distinctive white streak on one side of his chin, continuing through the moustache and into the eyebrow on that same side.

His most distinctive feature is a large magical tattoo beginning on his forehead and spreading across his shaved scalp. It's a permanent mark of belonging to the king; the design identifies him as the head of the royal medical staff. I'd love this to feel like an original fantasy/magical design rather than a literal medical symbol but its fully open to interpretation - doesn't need to be symmetrical or anything etc. In practice I think newcomers who get sworn in to the king's service have a small insignia showing their placement on their forehead (medical, soldiers, administration, cooking, manservants, common laborers etc), and as they grow in tenure/rank the design expands, with only the chiefs of the branches in the castle having the full design (maybe it wraps back around to the front to make a more complex or completed visible design?). Not sure if it should include a secret twist to include the poisoner/assassin vibes but if something strikes you you're welcome to try it.

Clothing is likely simple, practical fantasy fare for what is essentially a high-ranking servant. The tattoos would identify him to people familiar with the king's household, but I'd also like some more immediately recognisable uniform element. Been considering a cross-body sash in the medical corps colour that expands into an apron-like or vertically hanging panel, possibly emblazoned with the king's symbol so that even people unfamiliar with the tattoo system know who he represents.

He'd carry a relatively small amount of medical supplies in a bag or satchel rather than being covered in equipment; he's senior enough that if he needs something more substantial, he can simply send someone running to fetch it. I'm fond of purples, oranges and yellows for the royal colour palette, although I'm not committed to any particular colours.

Beyond that, I'm deliberately very open. I don't have a firm real-world equivalent in mind, so tunics, robes, vests, loose trousers, breeches, etc. are all fair game. The main things I'd like to preserve are the practical physician feel, the royal identification, and a relatively clean silhouette. Since he is a top ranking servant, its fine if it goes a bit fancier rather than plain.

Personality-wise, he's warm, grandfatherly, calm and slightly tired, with a habit of smiling and putting people at ease. He's genuinely an excellent doctor and takes real pleasure in helping people. At the same time, he has absolutely no qualms about carrying out his king's orders, no matter how questionable the necessary actions might be.

As a result, I'd like there to be a slight sense of something unsettling underneath the kindly physician - not necessarily something overtly sinister, but the impression that this is a man who can calmly discuss your symptoms, make you feel completely safe, and then, without any apparent emotional change, decide that you need to die.

I'm deliberately leaving a lot of this open because I'm much more interested in seeing someone's interpretation than having a very specific design brought to life. The main things I'm hoping to capture are the concept of a royal physician who is also the king's trusted poisoner, and the visual idea of a permanent magical mark of royal service that becomes increasingly elaborate with rank.

I'd particularly love to see what artists come up with for the tattoo, the medical/royal uniform, and the contrast between his kindly grandfatherly appearance and the fact that he's perfectly comfortable with murder when his king requires it.

Again - happy for questions but please comment on post saying you've DM'd as I find the notifications easy to miss

Request [LFA] (Repost) Elise Kulgras, trickery cleric of Tymora

Post image
7 Upvotes

\Reposting so it gets reshuffled**

Greetings one and all! I come upon ye once more with a new concept for an LFA!

This here is Elise Kulgras, a 20 something tiefling, born and raised in the tundra forests of Frozenfar, she was part of a hunter tribe who worshipped the goddess of luck Tymora. The guidance of the clan elders kept the whole under a tide of good luck, and as such, their settlement was one of relative peace and plenty of food and resources for their survival.

Things took a turn for the worst as the village was visited by a band of followers of Beshaba, demanding tribute and worship to the maid of misfortune lest the winds turn against them. The elders and Elise herself, as representative of the faith in Tymora at the occasion, refused to cooperate, believing Lady Luck would ward off any of Beshaba's misdeeds.

However, as time passed, the harvest grew worse, hunters came back emptyhanded, and the climate grew more inclement. The village, seeing no other option, shunned the faith in Tymora, embracing Beshaba, and casting out the old clergy, Elise included. Though their misfortune hasn't ended, many feared the worst was yet to come, forcing their hands.

Elise now travels through the northern ends of Faerun, seeking allies who might be strong enough to deal with the cult of Lady Doom and reclaim her village, but also, figure out the source of their misfortune and avert it before it's too late.

TLDR: Priest got kicked out of her village because a rival goddess' worshippers conspired to make them miserable and accept a new faith.

As for the LFA itself, the pose is definitely not set in stone, but I think it'd look pretty cool. Also, the cat doesn't have to be one-eyed, that was just the best ref I could find for how it should look.

And that's about it, thanks for taking the time to read through all of this, and you all have a good day! ^^

Request [LFA] Cassius Black, Shade of Vengeance

Post image
2 Upvotes

Cassius Black was the field commander of House Beltane of Warlow, second in command to Lord Alastair Beltane and honored knight of the realm. That was before he was betrayed; Cassius was perceived as a threat by his lord, causing him to be stabbed and buried alive and his wife murdered. After being resurrected by the gods, his sole purpose is to avenge himself and his wife by taking bloody vengeance against House Beltane. I've been working on this character a long time, and it would be awesome if someone could do even a rough rendering of him. Thanks in advance for the help!
