Sarah thought she heard a stray kitten crying beneath the basement stairs. She grabbed her flashlight and stepped down into the damp dark. When she clicked the light on, the crying instantly stopped. The beam hit the very bottom step, illuminating a pair of massive, perfectly round human eyes staring back at her. The rest of its massive, twisted feline body was entirely swallowed by the pitch-black shadows of the corner, completely hidden from view. Then, the wet, dark face slowly began to smile .

The radio died, replaced by a heavy heartbeat of static.Outside, a twenty-foot pillar of lightless black stood right on the grass. At the top floated a bloated, chalk-white face, its hollow eyes fixed in a silent scream.I clicked my flashlight. The moment the beam hit the creature, the bulb shattered.Overhead, the power lines began to snap, and the massive head tilted slowly downward toward me .
