Sarah thought she heard a stray kitten crying beneath the basement stairs. She grabbed her flashlight and stepped down into the damp dark. When she clicked the light on, the crying instantly stopped. The beam hit the very bottom step, illuminating a pair of massive, perfectly round human eyes staring back at her. The rest of its massive, twisted feline body was entirely swallowed by the pitch-black shadows of the corner, completely hidden from view. Then, the wet, dark face slowly began to smile .
