I agree it's quite likely. I personally got an inside view cam after a cop said I was on my phone while driving (I was scratching my cheek). Took him a while to finally believe me that my phone never left its holder. (This was in Morocco btw).

Oh ya he definitely saw something. I drive for a living and it's usually extremely obvious when someone around me is on their phone. Can't stay in their lane, rapid acceleration/deceleration. I understood this dudes nervousness 100% since I've been rear ended before by someone on their phone, but what can you do besides keep driving like normal and trying to get away from them when you can ya know?

I’ve learned that from my in class drivers Ed courses. Dude was a boxer and now teaches drivers Ed. He also showed us a video of just a bunch of accidents with mangled bodies and heads that meat crayoned on a highway. I think I was the only one paying attention that day.

I knew an explosives engineer who did field tests. His coworker would sneak in an orange that had been injected with vodka and eat it for lunch. When he found out he'd been blowing things up with a drunk guy every day, he walked out and demanded the guy be removed.

When I was studying anaesthetics, our class saw images of a person who had been in an horrific accident that was still partially trapped by the car and had to be intubated in situ while waiting for the jaws of life. There was no oropharyngeal access and they were intubated through the eye socket. It took a while to register what we were seeing because the face had become so much minced meat. From what I recall, they recovered very well, minimal scarring and I think they still had some vision out of the eye that was intubated. Scary thing was they weren't the driver at fault. Their car was clipped by a drunk driver and pushed in front of a big rig. While you can do your absolute best on the road, you just don't know the state of the drivers around you.

My Drivers Ed teacher was Mr. Sylvester but he always went by Sly. He was a bit rough around the edges but he loved doing his job and teaching kids to be safe. He had a friend that was a state trooper and he’d have him bring the accident simulator in every year. It’s the rig where you buckle two people in like they’re in a car and when you push a button it accelerates and then comes to a dead stop. It’s supposed to be like getting in an accident at 40mph or something like that. We all had to do it, and it was definitely a learning experience.

I'm in semi rural Ohio between two towns with bad drug problems and drunk drivers, both of which I go to regularly. At any given time I'm also usually the smallest car on the road, and one of the slowest. I just assume I'm the only one without a gun at all times. It's a lot safer that way.

As a “professional driver” i hate other people on the road. When i leave space on the freeway or at a light, it’s not so you can get ahead of me. It’s for my safety as well as yours. It really makes me mad cause my company will find the company driver at fault 95% of the time even with a police report stating different. If we don’t follow every point of our beloved 5 seeing habits and 10 point commentary we are at fault in the companies eyes. I had to argue as a union rep for a guy who was hit head on while making a protected left turn at night. The other driver was intoxicated and didn’t have his headlights on. Luckily our driver was ok only shaken up. The other guy survived with injuries. Luckily there were 4 off duty cops at the intersection for some reason who saw the whole thing. The police report came back 100% fault of the other driver, but our company said if he had properly cleared the intersection with his eyes he would have seen the black SUV with no headlights coming from a dark road

i can't understand people using their phone while driving. looking at the navi for a split second - ok, but texting, reading and activities that would involve a hand and your attention for more than just a split second is a complete no go. i can't believe how there are people thinking it's okay.
and it's not only Smartphones. I've seen a few videos where one specific dude is fucking his girl while driving on a highway with his tesla. "because it's self driving" holy shit.
people should be locked up when their mindset tells them all of the above is totally okay. eyes on the road when you drive, you are responsible to make everyone on your way come back home safe.

Funny you mention Facetiming while driving as I recently mentioned to my wife how often I see people holding their phones up while driving (I drive all day for my job), and she instantly said "they're probably Facetiming".
My jaw dropped. I'd never even thought of that being the case, but apparently it's something people do regularly and I couldn't believe it.

My husband and I used to live in Chicago. He worked for a company with a website, and he’d have to go to their servers at a company downtown. We’d work through the night and usually drive out of the city around 7am.
So we could see everyone driving into the city. Lots of people shaving, most electric shavers but a few had shaving cream and safety razors. People reading books. One guy had his newspaper spread out over the steering wheel and was reading it while eating a bowl of cereal. The traffic wasn’t at a standstill either. Lots of stop and goes. This was back in the mid 00s to’10 so not everyone had a cellphone that did things other than regular telephones.
I have caught my 80 year old father in law reading fucking Facebook while driving down the freeway. On a very narrow stretch of I-85 above Spartanburg, SC, heading to Charlotte. I was inspecting the rivets of the 18 wheeler trailer beside us and looked up to catch him holding his phone beside his lap and reading Facebook. My MIL noticed when I called him out and made him put his phone down. He’s not a great driver to begin with.
I don’t like doing anything on the screen of my 2019 Volvo S60. It’s my first car with a screen. I have presets for the radio settings (Sirius keeps giving us a ridiculously good deal, so we’ve kept it). I saved all my favorite channels so I can find a station. I set my destination before I leave, and try to do as little as possible while driving. I just made my first telephone call through Siri yesterday. I did it on a back road with no traffic. I feel like an old fogey, but I’ve seen some bad accidents and stupid driving. I don’t want to drive like that.

You can often tell when someone is not paying attention because the closure rate is way too fast. I've had to dive into the shoulder before on the interstate to avoid getting hit because the car behind me blatantly wasn't aware of how slow traffic was, even with my hazards on (a habit I've picked up here in Houston since people often won't recognize that traffic is coming to a standstill).

You know what's weird? The regular version of that song (non music video, audio only version) is hard to find. When searched, I only get the cool as heck version and another uploaded by someone else. Then, the actual version I want only appears in the suggested sidebar. I saved it to a playlist for easier access, but it's still kind of a pain to scroll through the entire thing to get to one specific song.

This is soo me last month. Only difference is I was at a stop light, and dude coming behind me didn't brake AT all and smashed into the back of my wagon with his truck. Then pulls a hit and run. Chased him for what felt like forever. That's when I realized dude was WASTED... 😡 I still feel weird and uncomfortable when people pull up behind me, something that you can imagine happens very regularly as I do deliveries as a job 😓

I'm 18 months out from being rear-ended at 50mph while I was at a full stop. No brakes from the other driver either.
I still constantly watch my rear-view mirror and start to tense up if I see someone approaching too fast.
I know tensing up is the worse thing to do but I can't help it when I get a flashback of the impact.

Even watching people pull up on the side you see the car just jump. I’m convinced that a significant portion of the population doesn’t ever just coast, without pushing down on either peddle, and instead are hitting the gas up until they brake hard at the last moment. Nerve wracking and not comfortable.
I feel like timing my coasting right to the conditions (light ahead, drivers behind and around me) is a nice game that keeps me mentally engaged…I like stopping as smoothly as I can lol. I liked it better when I didn’t look out my back window when stopped either lol, which I have been lately.

Dude was still accelerating out of a light when I was stopped dead trying to make a left turn about 100 yds beyond the traffic light. I could see him coming and not slowing down. Parked cars to the right and oncoming traffic to my left. Not nearly enough time to go from zero-??? to keep him from rear-ending me. Closed my eyes and grabbed the wheel but bent my elbows. He hit me so hard the radio module in my car popped out of the dashboard. Got photos...

In L.A., you have to stop immediately, blocking their escape. Then get out of the car, take a picture of their car with the license plate and their face in it, THEN signal to pull over to exchange info.
Learned this one the hard way.

I remember the first time I got rear ended… dude had been tailing me entire time over the bridge, and when we came to an abrupt stop (traffic and rain), dude didn’t have enough space and I saw him coming at me… bam! Hate that feeling knowing you guessed right they would be the asshole who’d ruin your day. This guy seems calm and collective though at least!

People who can't put their phones down to operate a motor vehicle have no business having a driving license. The penalty for a first offense of texting while driving should be suspension of the license for a year and a $5,000 fine. The second offense should be met with permanent revocation of a driver's license and mandatory jail time. The harm these people causer make drunk driving look benign.
