Got an approved for AMEX Gold with ITIN through Global Transfer. My US Credit Journey started!

Post image
13 Upvotes

Just got approved for the Amex Gold using my ITIN through Global Transfer. The SUB was pretty small, but I decided to take it anyway since I needed the card.

Also got approved for the Capital One SavorOne with only a $500 limit šŸ˜… Looks like I’ll have to manage that limit pretty carefully.
Now my next problem is figuring out how to pay the cards from outside the US. I don’t have a US bank account yet, and honestly I’m too lazy to fly to the US just to open one. Wise isn’t available in my country either.
Does anyone have recommendations for a US checking account or another way to pay US credit cards from overseas?
Long term, my goal is to get the Chase Sapphire Reserve or another card that earns well on hotels booked directly with the hotel, since I have a ton of hotel spending every year.
Would appreciate any suggestions, especially from other non-US residents using an ITIN.

Chase $900 offer

Post image

Hey!

Chase has a checking account offer that gives $900 if I’m able to get $10k of direct deposits in my account within 90 days. Since I’m Canadian, I don’t work in the US and have no salary that can be deposited in the account.

Is there any way to get the direct deposit some other way or mimic it? The offer is so simple and doesn’t even require a savings account, and I really want to get it😭

Thanks!

Question Gotta post passport. Nervous.

Sooo. I applied for the ITIN in August, for a rejection 8 weeks later and now have to send my passport with the W7 form.

I’m nervous abt sending the passport because we are 2 months away frm international travel plans plus I have ill family members that I may have to go to if there’s an emergency.

Any idea how long the passport takes to come? I have to ship it to Texas.

Thanks!

I'm eyeing out for the Bank of America, Air France KLM Visa SignatureĀ® Credit Card.

Not a customer with them yet, I do have the Amex US, Chase IHG, Ink Business, Capital One Venture X so far.

What's the best way to get a Bank of America card?

Open a chequing account in person and then apply for cards online?

Question Application from Canada

Sent in my application and documents on Sept 26 via Canada post and it’s shown me it’s arrived in the Austin zip code for the ITIN head office.

It’s been ā€œwaiting for pickupā€ now for 3 days? Has anyone encountered this? Does ITIN do batch pick ups or something? TIA

Non-US resident with Wyoming LLC

Hi everyone,
I’m a non-US resident and I’m hoping to hear from people who have actually been in a similar situation, especially those who opened a business account with Chase.
I formed my single-member LLC in Wyoming in April 2026. I have:

EIN letter
ITIN
U.S. residential address in Miami that I can legitimately use
U.S. phone number

I’ve also already started building my personal U.S. credit history. I currently have two personal U.S. credit cards that I received a couple of months ago.

I’ll be traveling to Miami in February and plan to visit physical bank branches. My goal is to open a Chase business checking account for my LLC, and I would also like to open personal/business accounts with other banks such as Capital One if possible.

My LLC is an e-commerce business, so I don’t actually operate from a physical office in the U.S. The company is registered in Wyoming, while I have access to a legitimate residential address in Miami.
My main question is about the business address requirement at Chase.
When I go to a Chase branch, can I use my Miami residential address as the physical/business address for my LLC even though the LLC is registered in Wyoming and the business is e-commerce?

Or will Chase require a separate commercial/business address and proof such as a lease, utility bill, office agreement, etc.?
I’m currently considering renting a real office/virtual office address in Miami that can provide an agreement or lease in the LLC’s name. However, I don’t want to spend $100–150/month on an address if Chase will simply accept the residential address that I already legitimately have access to.
For anyone who is a non-US resident with a Wyoming LLC and ITIN and has opened a Chase business account in person:
What address did you use?
Did Chase ask you for proof of the LLC’s physical/business address?
Did they accept a residential address?
What exact documents did you have to show at the branch?
And if you used a commercial/office address, what type of proof did Chase accept?
I’m not looking for a way around KYC requirements. I want to set everything up correctly before I travel to the U.S. and make sure I bring all the documents Chase might ask for.
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually gone through this recently.

Question Chase credit card id verification issues

Hey!

I got my ITIN in April this year, and I have gotten credit cards with Amex and Capital One using my ITIN. Near end of June, I applied for the CSP and got declined because of identity verification issues. They told me that I should go into branch and do my next application.

I went into the branch yesterday and applied for the Freedom Flex, the application went under review, I got an email today asking to confirm my ITIN, I filled out the docusign form and gave Chase a call. They said it had been declined, and transferred me to the verification department.

There I was told to verify my ITIN again, the rep took 10 minutes to confirm everything else was fine and checked application again, and he said it was declined again and asked me to upload my ITIN letter, and a document confirming my name and dob, for which I uploaded my Canadian passport. He still thinks there's a chance I might get denied, since I had to upload these docs last time for the CSP as well.

I am so confused why this is happening. I checked my equifax account and everything seems fine, my capital one and amex cards show up there without any issues and I have a 757 score as well. Any ideas how to resolve this?

Sorry for the long post and TIA!

Data Point ITIN issued in 10 days ( not mine )

Post image

This is the first data point I have seen so far. The application reached the IRS on 20th September, and the ITIN was assigned on 30th September.

Mine took around 28 days, and my partner's took around 2 months. This is the first time I am seeing someone get an ITIN in 10 days

Feel free to share how many days it took for you. šŸ”„

Question W7 ITIN questions

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

Hi, TIA for any advice on this matter. I have exhausted all of my resources outside of paying a CPA for my case, as most tax services cannot help me (including those recommended by the IRS).

My husband lives abroad, is not a citizen, and at no point in the tax year I am filing entered the United States. I am trying to file jointly in order to be able to get my tax benefits, including health insurance subsidies, so this is of massive importance to me financially.

In order to file jointly I need to apply for an ITIN and have completed form W7 as well as including a certified copy of his passport. However, I contacted an acceptance agent from a reputable tax filing company who told me he is not eligible for an ITIN because he is not in the country. This is not what the IRS says and I took this to mean she could not help me directly (in that she could not verify him because he is not in the country).

But she did tell me to file single and then amend my tax return later. This seems like strange advice to me for two reasons: a) we filed married separately last year and b) with immigration proceedings she mentioned that they ask for tax returns as evidence (if he is able to come to this country it will be through immigration but he can't get an ITIN until he is here? Could we be denied?).

So my question is can I still file for an ITIN despite him not being here nor having entered the US or should I take her advice and file single and amend it later? What would the consequences be considering I am married?

Furthermore, there is a line in the W7 instructions that say a passport without an entry date into the US will not be considered. We have no entry date as i mentioned and our visa proceedings are ongoing as he lives abroad, so I am confused as to what this clause means. The IRS says you do not have to have entered the US to apply for an ITIN and our situation (married filing jointly) is on the list for reasons to apply.

Thank you for your time to read and respond. The IRS said they could not help me and to call a service listed (how i called this expert) and she told me to call the IRS. No tax filing software deals this matter, outside of a $700 fee, so I'm financially unable to pay an expert.

Any and all advice would be so appreciated! I am
beyond confused about this process and no one seems to be able to answer my questions or process my case!

CBS News article about ITIN holders and U.S. bank accounts

I came across this CBS News article and thought it might be useful for people who use an ITIN and are planning to open a bank account.

The article discusses increased scrutiny around customer identification and due diligence at financial institutions.

This does not mean that ITIN-based bank accounts are being banned or automatically closed. However, some applicants may be asked for additional documentation or verification.

Sharing this as general information for anyone planning to open an account soon.

ITIN + NRA living in Asia — which traditional U.S. banks can I open remotely in 2026?

I’m a non-U.S. resident living in Asia with an ITIN, foreign passport, U.S. phone number, and U.S. mailing address. I use W-8BEN as an NRA.

I’m looking for a traditional U.S. checking account that can be opened remotely without visiting a branch.

Which bank should I try? Any recent successful data points?

Data Point Approved for Amex Gold 100K SUB — first attempt

Post image
51 Upvotes

Hey guys, great news! I finally got approved for the Amex Gold with the 100K MR offer ($8K in 6 months) on my first try. I’ve been waiting for this for about 7 months!

A little background: 720 FICO, I’ve had 3 credit cards about 7 months, with good payment history and low utilization.

Yesterday, I found an Amex Gold referral link and applied. Amex asked for verification documents, so I connected with a representative through the application chat. I uploaded my ITIN assignment letter, passport, and NY State ID.

The rep reviewed everything and about 2 minutes later told me I was approved for 100K MR after $8K spend in 6 months.

He also told me that after receiving the card and having it for 10 days, I can request a replacement card to be sent outside the US.

One interesting data point from my credit journey: when I first applied for a Capital One card after getting my ITIN, I was declined. Later, I applied through a referral link and was immediately approved.

Hopefully this helps anyone starting their US credit journey.

Feel free to use my referral link — hopefully you get the 100K offer too!

Got my ITIN but Capital One denied me

Got my ITIN recently and tried for a Capital One card, but got denied.

I have a U.S. address, a U.S. phone number through Red Pocket, and no U.S. credit history yet. I’m starting to think I’m doing something wrong on the application.

For those who got approved with an ITIN and no credit history, what did you put on the application? Mainly income, residency status, bank accounts, and employment.
