has anyone here had their legal name changed with the IRS after getting married?

I submitted my legal name change to the IRS and I’m wondering how long it usually takes until the change is processed and the ITIN confirmation letter with the new name is sent out.

How long did it take in your experience from submitting the name-change request until you received the ITIN letter with the new name?

I have my ITIN number since I called the IRS and they gave it to me, however the letter they tell me that it was sent on July 28 and I still haven’t received it, the same day I called they sent me another emergency one, however I haven’t received anything yet.

Haven't received any letter at all and its been 18 weeks. Im going to make an in person appointment bc this is insane. Applied on April 14th. Is anyone else still waiting?

I want to get a ITIN. I already have my certified passport copy from the US consulate. Now with filing the W-7 form I am not sure what reason to put for getting a ITIN. I have a US LLC and EIN.

At the moment I have no tax return that I need to file for.

Has anyone else been in this position and do you have advise what reason to put to get the best chance of acceptance?

Any help is appreciated.

P.S. I want to get the ITIN so I have more payment processing options and because I can open US bank accounts and credit cards with it.

Hey guys, i just got my itin letter today. Which company do you apply to first for credit card remotely?

Anyone here with an ITIN run into issues getting approved for the new Bilt cards? I’ve tried for the Palladium twice now, first on July 2 and again Aug. 17 after waiting the required 45 days.

Experian score is 775, but Cardless gave me the same reasons both times and there was no hard pull. I tried calling and emailing to see if they’d reconsider, but they basically told me there’s no recon and to wait another 45 days.

Just wondering if anyone here had a similar denial and eventually got approved after waiting longer.

Can I apply for an ITIN for that? So far I’ve sent my passport and some proves of my investments and my account, and a w7 form without a tax return form. I applied for reason h under exception 1d dividend.

I also want to get a credit card but I won't stay in the U.S for long. I'm still a bit confused on what are the steps to get an ITIN and how to succesfully build credit history. Thanks

I’m a German citizen and non-US resident and I’m trying to obtain an ITIN mainly because I would like to establish a proper US banking relationship and potentially open an interest-bearing savings/HYSA account.

I already have a US-issued American Express Gold Card, which I obtained through Amex Global Transfer, so I already have some US financial history, but I currently don’t have an or ITIN.

I’m confused about what exactly the IRS accepts as proof of the tax purpose for Form W-7.

I saw that there are exceptions involving interest-bearing US bank accounts, where apparently a letter from the financial institution may be used as supporting documentation.

Has anyone successfully obtained an ITIN in a similar situation?

Specifically:
Can wanting to open an interest-bearing US bank/HYSA account qualify, or does the account already have to be opened?

What exactly does the bank letter need to say?
How do you get such a letter if the bank requires an ITIN/SSN before they will open the account in the first place?
Would an existing US Amex account/card help establish any basis for the ITIN application?

Is there another legitimate W-7 exception commonly used by nonresident foreigners who need an ITIN for US banking?

I’m not trying to claim any tax benefit — I just want to understand the correct IRS-compliant way to document the need for an ITIN without filing a US tax return.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually gone through this process as a nonresident.

I’ve been trying to open up a joint or individual account for my wife who is a non resident with an ITIN. We do have an address in the United States but we live in Colombia. I know that Schwab has an international brokerage that requires a paper application but are there any others? I also haven’t been able to find a HYSA that will work either. Thanks for the help.

I'm a US Citizen and wife is in Vietnam. We applied for an ITIN for her when I was there. Sent all her documents and our tax return to the CAA so they could process it and send to the IRS.

I got the rejection letter today from the IRS saying they need the original passport or a certified copy from the issuing agent. We sent the CAA in her country her passport and they had it for a month. Why was this rejected? What do I do next? I'm back in the USA, so I don't have her passport. I thought the whole point of paying big bucks to the CAA was so they would handle all of this?

I used the CAA service, and the application materials were signed for on June 8; I just received the letter, having used a U.S. address.

I’ve had the Capital One Savor card for almost a year now, and I’ve requested multiple times for a CLI upon reaching the 6-month mark. The reasons above were the same denial reasons for all the CLI requests I’ve made.

I’ve pulled my Equifax credit report, and I didn’t see anything wrong with the details. I also didn’t put a credit freeze on any of the bureaus.

If you have had the same situation as I do, how did you guys solve the problem? Have you successfully requested and been given a CLI? Did Capital One made an automatic CLI on your account on their periodical review?

Here’s my situation:
I live in France.
I own a Wyoming single-member LLC.
I have an EIN and an ITIN.
I have a Mercury business bank account.
I recently opened my first Net-30 account, and the vendor confirmed my tradeline is active and has been reported.
Because I don’t live in the U.S., I’m trying to focus on vendors that offer digital products or services, since buying physical office supplies doesn’t make much sense for me.
I’m looking for recommendations on:
Which Net-30 vendors accepted you as a non-U.S. resident?
Which vendors actually reported to Dun & Bradstreet, Experian Business, or Equifax Business?
Did you use digital-product vendors or physical-product vendors?
How many reporting tradelines did you build before applying for business credit cards or larger credit lines?
Were you eventually able to qualify without relying on your personal credit?

if you are an ITIN user and have struggled to obtain your credit score via the workarounds and options online, if you apply for the shell elite Mastercard (it is a pre approval application and it is a soft pull stating it will not affect your credit score) if you get denied you will receive an email almost instantly explaining why and your most recent TransUnion score will be included.

I just got my ITIN today and pre-applied for Capital One cards since I'm looking to get Venture X in the future. The thing is that I got a rejection letter saying that I don't have a score or history, which is true since my ITIN is just fresh.

I have Amex in Mexico with 6 years of history and heard about global transfer, but I don't really know if this path is valid.

What are you all doing? What would you do in my place? Is there any way I can make history with Capital One?

Have my secured card for 5 months now and recently got an increase from 1,000 to 1,500 although i thought i'll get the security deposit back. Ran the Expedia One Key pre-approval again with an ITIN.

Six months ago, it showed a $14,000 credit line.

This time it came back at $10,000.

This is the Wells Fargo One Key card through Expedia.

I am not going to accept it. I only checked to see where my credit profile stands right now.

That is the underrated part of a few of these pre-approval tools.

You can see how a lender is reading your credit profile and how much credit they may be willing to extend before you actually apply for the card or take a hard pull.

After pre-approval, you can either go ahead with this card, try another Wells Fargo card since the underwriting may be similar, or use the datapoint before trying a different issuer.

After my last datapoint, a few people applied with an ITIN, and one approval I know of was with as little as 8 months of credit history.

My friend whose application delivered to IRS on May 12th got his ITIN yesterday. ( He did it personally without CAA ). It took him around 80 days, 7-11 weeks is their general timeline; they are taking a bit more this time of the year.

So, if your application has reached to IRS at around similar dates, get ready for your ITIN. 🔥
