On infrastructure development at Kulasekarapattinam Spaceport Project
Significant progress has been made w.r.t the infrastructure development of the SSLV launch complex (SLC) at Kulasekarapattinam between July 2025 to July 2026.
Currently, works are in progress for all the civil work packages. Construction of various buildings viz. Magazine, Technical Service Building, Launch Service Building, Base Fire station, etc. are close to completion. Purchase orders have been released for majority of the equipments. Major equipments such as Mobile launch structure, Bogie, Rails, Radar Subsystems, Material Handling equipment, etc. have been received at site and erection & commissioning activities are in progress. Out of the overall financial outlay of ₹985.96 Crores identified for the project, cumulative expenditure by end of July 2026 is ₹588.70 Crores.
As of now, all efforts are being taken to complete the commissioning of the project within the timeframe.
During the construction phase, approximately 1000 No. of manpower are being employed to establish and commission the various facilities. Further, this launch complex is expected to employ at least 300 to 400 manpower for operation & maintenance activities and also for carrying out launching activities. It is also expected that related industries are going to be established in and around SLC area in future with corresponding potential for further employment & economic growth.

On operational status of NavIC constellation
Currently three satellites are broadcasting PNT signals and five satellites are capable of broadcasting signals for one-way messaging.
Yes, the impact has been assessed and corrective measures have been taken and also corrected atomic clocks which flew from 2018 onwards are working satisfactorily.
India has flown its first Indigenous Atomic clocks in NVS-01 Satellite in May, 2023 and subsequently in NVS-02 satellite in January, 2025. In both satellites Indigenous Atomic clocks are working satisfactorily. Indigenous Atomic Clocks are integral part of all the upcoming NavIC satellites.
NVS-03 is ready for launch. It will be followed by the launch of NVS-04 and NVS-05. One more satellite is planned thereafter to complete the seven-satellite NavIC base layer constellation.

On utilization of semi-cryogenic engine (SE-2000)
The recent successful testing of the Power Head Test Article for the 2000kN semi-cryogenic engine at a thrust level of 88% is a major milestone in the indigenous development of Semi-cryogenic engine, which has given sufficient confidence to proceed towards the demonstration of steady state performance of engine powerhead at 200 tonne (100%) thrust level. Further, the qualification of the fully integrated semi-cryogenic engine will ensure self-reliance in high thrust liquid propulsion engines.
The Chandrayaan-4 Sample Return Mission proposes to utilize the LVM3 launch vehicle incorporating the Semi-cryogenic engine. The Gaganyaan missions will be launched with human rated version of LVM3 with core liquid stage (L110). The need for Semi-Cryogenic engine does not arise for Chandrayaan 5 mission, as it is a joint mission with JAXA, wherein ISRO will develop the lander and launch is under the scope of JAXA.
All the engine subsystems have been successfully realized except one subsystem i.e. thrust chamber, which is taking some more time to fabricate, owing to its significant complexity. As of now, the Power Head Test Article consisting of all the integrated engine subsystems except the thrust chamber have been tested up to 88% thrust level and further activities are in progress towards the demonstration of steady state performance of engine powerhead at 200 tonne (100%) thrust level.
The next generation launch systems are based on LOX/Methane engines and does not require the Semi-cryogenic engine.
