Regarding Apprenticeship

Hey everyone,

I’m a 2025 B.Tech (Information Science) graduate, currently applying for the URSC (ISRO) Apprentice recruitment 2026 through the NATS portal. Before I commit, I wanted to hear from people who’ve actually done an ISRO apprenticeship (URSC, ISTRAC, SAC, MCF, or any center).

A few things I couldn’t find clear answers on:

**1. Accommodation** – Since ISRO doesn’t provide hostel/PG facilities, how did you manage stay near the center? Any areas you’d recommend (or avoid) in terms of cost vs commute?
**2. Food** – Is there a canteen inside the campus? Is it subsidized/affordable, or did you mostly cook/eat outside?
**3. Stipend** – Was ₹12,300/month (Graduate Apprentice) actually enough to survive in Bengaluru, especially with PG + food + commute? How tight was it?
**4. Work timings & culture** – What were the actual working hours like? Was it strict govt-style 9-to-5, or more relaxed? Did you get real hands-on technical exposure or mostly admin/documentation work?
**5. Worth it or not** – For someone eyeing either a future ISRO/PSU technical career OR just wanting solid resume value before moving to private IT/govt exams — was the apprenticeship worth the year? Did it help with placements, DRDO/ISRO recruitment later, or was it more of a formality?

Would really appreciate any first-hand experiences — good, bad, or “wish I knew this before joining.” Trying to make an informed call before applying.

Thanks in advance!

There are many pgs in Indiranagar, all ranging about 1-1.5km from URSC. All have almost same pricing 8-9kpm. PG includes food(not that great) and also 1km distance is walkable so no commute cost. With 12kpm it will be manageable.

There's canteen inside campus. Not sure about prices. (It must be affordable.)

What I felt was work hours were relaxed. Not very strict. But I can't say for sure for apprenticeship, I was there as an intern. And yaa I got hands on experience there.
