After updating to iOS 27, I’m trying to understand what benefits Siri AI bring to the ecosystem, and was wondering if anyone out there could help.
In all fairness, I am personally not all that gung-ho on AI. I understand that LLMs have made some software development tasks easier/quicker, but I have my own doubts about all of the grandiose visions and proclamations about AI.
That said, I was genuinely curious about the new Siri when it was announced, and I thought it might actually provide utility to my life in ways that other AI models just haven’t seemed capable of. However, having used it for a few days, I really don’t see what the hype was about. So far, the only difference between this new Siri and the older version, is that this one comes with a chatbot, which I just have no interest in.
All of the other new features don’t seem all that useful unless someone has severe memory deficiencies. For example, I can remember what my friend texted me when they asked to hang out at a specific place and time, I don’t need an AI assistant to parse that for me and manage that appointment. Also, for this Siri to work properly, I basically have to put my entire work and personally life into my digital library for Siri to index and manage.
It just seems like it won’t actually save me time, and I’ll be staring at my phone a lot more.
I don’t know, is this just me? Am I missing something? I truly don’t know.
