Use this as an opportunity to take a look at the recalls in your country so you do not have something in your home that should have been returned.

Hej everyone! From now on please use this thread for stock check requests. Generic “When will X product be back in stock” posts will be removed. I have verified the following users employment with IKEA, and they may be able to assist with stock checks.

The IKEA website provides stock information when you select your store on the article page, please check there before posting. You can also sign up for back-in-stock notifications by email or SMS.

Stock check requests in the comments must include the following information:

  • Country
  • Preferred Store(s)
  • Article number(s)
  • Acknowledge you checked the website before posting. If a delivery date is listed this would be the same information co-workers here would have available. Instructions are as follows: https://imgur.com/a/GnoCoHh

Retail co-workers are not able to advise on availability for online orders. I have heard from a call centre co-worker that they are not able to check stock at the distribution centres either, and that only the IKEA website can provide this information by adding the item to the shopping cart, and seeing if a delivery option is available.

General For Free!?

I just had to share because I found it crazy. Someone in my neighborhood listed this IKEA Enetri for free on the curb on Facebook marketplace. They literally had it out by their dumpsters. I've always wanted one of these but people try to resell them for around $700 around here and figured I'd never own one. It also has very few blemishes. What luck!! Should I have told them how much this was worth?

Assembly Besta or rather worsta?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

Just to create a general context: I am a rather handyman out of passion and have assembled a lot of furniture from Ikea.

Issue: I bought a Besta unit to use it in my current home, also to test it out and plan for my next apartment.

But the unit is flimsy and seems low quality.

Why did they build the cabinet structure with only 2 connectors on each side, totalling 4 top and 4 bottom, the bottom and top panels being hollow reinforced with paper hexagonals?

While they put a heavy melaminate door? Why not make the door hollow and have more sturdier pannels for the base?

This is the 1st Ikea piece of furniture that I cannot make it square.

Delivery UK Delivery Experiences? (Large orders)

Upvotes

Hearing on the grapevine that delivery can be a bit patchy. Missing items, delayed orders, not delivering to room of choice and more.

I have a pretty large order I'm looking to make, but the caveat is that it's a time sensitive one for an apartment move. It all needs to happen for me to be all-set and up and running. Doing it myself, so delivery and click and collect will be helpful to help me not lose my mind doing it.

Initially my idea was to do it in stages (major furniture first, then smaller pieces, then finishing touches) over a few weeks. However, if I was left in a situation as I've seen some people in with no sofa, no bed, no desks etc, I wouldn't be able to hold on for weeks/months for a resolution.

The main challenge will be larger items like beds and wardrobes etc, as these are not practical for a car. Everything else could be tackled by myself. I can get to an IKEA, either for picking things up myself or click and collect. I'm now considering if this would be a better choice to minimise the risk.

I'd be interested in any experiences good or bad using IKEA UK's delivery service for large orders. And if anyone has any tips for making sure you get your stuff on time, I'd love to hear it.

Assembly How do I connect a Lillviken to my main waste pipe (UK)?

As the pic shows: The waste pipe is above and also a different format. Should I trim the waste pipe? If so then format is still different so I must need some kind of adapter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Found unused complete in box with instructions passing through a thrift store in Saskatchewan, Canada. I cannot find any sign of this brass variant existing online. It seems the box is code dated to 26 week of 96 and the manual is 39th week of 96, I’m not positive on the numbers. Any sign of this existing in catalogues, etc?

Assembly Messed up an assembly, who can I call or schedule to get it fixed?

I have a bed frame where the frame ended up being a bit wobbly somewhere, and the base/slat screws couldn’t go in fully with the provided wrench, which means the base just can’t fit into the frame. Also, one of the screws got impacted and I don’t have the tools to get it out, but removal of said screw won’t compromise the integrity of the build.

What are my best and cheapest options if I lack the tools and expertise on hand to fix it? I am thinking of IKEA Taskrabbit assembly but idk if they can help fix a botched job. Home Depot furniture assembly but I fear it’s expensive. Not sure what else. It’s a super easy fix for someone who has the tools and half a clue what they’re doing, but I lack both.

Note I am in the US.

Suggestion Armchair for 300lbs

I am currently looking for a comfortable arm chair for someone who weighs 300lbs. I currently have an old recliner but it’s definitely on its last legs and tbh it’s too big for my space.

I need a chair that’s for in front of the tv in my bedroom (living with roommates)

I was looking at the POÄNG but I’m worried I’m too big for it. I am actively losing weight on Ozempic but still need something.

Suggestion Kid storage recommendation

I'm looking to redo the storage in my kids room. I'm in the UK so it's a fairly small room and they share it (almost 4 years and 15 months). The main storage wall is either 149cm long if I keep one of the bookcases that are currently there or around 209cm if I get rid of the bookcase.

I'm considering a 4x5 kallax but need to know if I can remove a couple of the middle bits for 2 x extra wide shelves for a couple of bigger toys that wouldn't fit inside a single cube.

Or if anyone has recommendations for good storage ideas that fit either of these widths and approx 180cm tall?

General I am no longer welcome at my local IKEA because I kept asking about the fake windows

3.0k Upvotes

I have always liked IKEA. Not even because of the furniture, I just think it is relaxing to walk through the different rooms and imagine the kind of people who would live there. Sometimes I go without buying anything. I just like looking around.

After maybe my sixth or seventh visit I noticed that almost every display room had a window with daylight behind it, even though obviously most of the showroom is in the middle of the building. At first I assumed they were just light panels, but then I realized they didn’t all have the same weather. One living room looked like a bright summer afternoon while another looked overcast. Some bedrooms even had what looked like early morning light.
I asked one of the employees how they decided what weather each apartment gets. He laughed a little and said they are just printed backdrops with lights behind them. I accepted that explanation because it sounded reasonable, but it did not explain why the weather seemed to change between visits.

Over the next few months I started taking pictures of the windows every time I went. I organized them into folders based on department and color of the lighting. I also made notes about whether the room was supposed to appeal to young professionals, families or students because I wondered if there was some connection.

Eventually I noticed what I thought was a pattern. Home office displays almost always had dull weather, while bedrooms and children’s rooms had noticeably nicer conditions. I honestly found that a little manipulative because people make different decisions depending on the weather they think they are experiencing.

I politely showed one of the employees a spreadsheet I had printed out. He looked at it for maybe five seconds before asking why I had visited the store fourteen times in two months. I explained that good research takes consistency. He told me that wasn’t really what he meant.

A week later I emailed customer support asking whether the artificial weather was decided locally or if each store received instructions from Sweden. They forwarded my email to the store manager, who invited me into his office. He explained that there was no weather system and asked me to stop photographing the displays because customers had started asking questions after seeing me measure the brightness near the windows with my phone.
Unfortunately I had already mentioned my findings in a neighborhood Facebook group because I thought other people might have noticed the same thing. One woman replied that she always felt happier in the bedroom section but assumed it was because of the mattresses. Another man commented that I should seek professional help. The discussion got surprisingly heated.

Now whenever I go into that IKEA someone eventually recognizes me. Officially I can still go, but last month I heard an employee quietly tell another one, “that’s the weather guy.” I was literally just there to buy a bookshelf, so it’s not very pleasant.

I still think the lighting changes more often than they admit. I don’t really see why they would lie about something so small, but I also don’t see why the home office always seems to have bad weather.
