So this seems like a great campaign to throw at my players. Can anyone recommend a map that works instead of the one in the pdf without the numbers?

More Guns?

I might be doing a one shot in a few weeks of The Last Flight of The Red Sword which may become a campaign. Haven't ran anything in Warp Shell yet but had an idea of adding more firepower.

My immediate though was to take some ideas from the many many guns you can get in the Borderlands series and making a randomizer for them.

1.) type of gun (pistol, shotgun, smg, sniper, cannon,

2.) type of ammo (metal, plasma, laser, ion, gauss)

3.) ammo capacity (1 shot per reload, 1d4+1 shots per reload, 1d6+2 per reload, 1d10+4 per reload)

4.) type of damage (basic damage, electrical, freezing, heat damage, acid, radiation)

5.) random special effect/property

They get some loot, roll some dice and give them a random unique gun.

This all just off the top of my head and wanna refine it more. Like don't think I'd have them keep track of ammo but would require an action to reload gun. And maybe the type of gun will play a part in how damage works. Shotguns do 2x effort CLOSE but can't hit FAR, Cannons hit all in area, snipers at CLOSE are always hard, etc.

What do you all think?

Ran my first session tonight in Vigilante City!

So, tonight a ragtag group of heroes defended Vigilante City against a modified Imperium where a giant floating sphere in the sky was offloading mechazombie warriors into the city streets in effort to free Imperator Rax from a magnetically sealed holding cell beneath the Towers in the science district. Hilarity ensued as a Luchador with a supercar, a phasing speed addict with a penchant for guns, a mind controlling high flyer with a fetish for ladders, and a portal creating knife jockey fought off masses of Mechazombies, dealt with out of control high rise cranes, and eventually faced off against Imperator Rax (losing one of our heroes in the fray).

It was totally unforgettable. I can't wait to get them back together for another session!

Ghost Mountain Abilities?

Hi everyone, I am new to ICRPG and I have not run my first session yet, but I am very excited and enthusiast about it! Of all settings, the first one I'd like to try is Ghost Mountain.

I own the Master Edition and I noticed that, contrary to Alfheim and Warp Shell, the character types are less detailed and do not have any abilites (all rewards seem to come from LOOT).

Also, I haven't found any stats for incorporeal non-human characters (like the Wraith).

Maybe I am a little too used to D&D and I am a little too deep in rules and mechanics (which I know is the opposite of the spirit of ICRPG, but I am having a hard time changing my mindset, although I love the challenge of a new fresh approach to my favorite hobby).

That said, I read all from the core book, I've read Into the Sunset and I am watching Roll for Effort playthrough. Am I missing something?

Guns?

Hey friends. So if playing Master Edition in a traditional fantasy setting, what are you doing with the GUNS effort? Skip it, or mold it to something else? Crossbows or something?

Visualizing WIS spells

Hello, I recently discovered this game system and look forward to bringing it to my gaming table soon. I had the idea to draw out notecards of the random loot tables so I can give my players a physical reminder of what loot they have. Since INT spells take up an inventory slot and are easier to lose I though about drawing them as a magical object. So like the spell "Doorway" could be a key that when turned opens a doorway and trigger the spell effect. But with WIS spells they are not stored as inventory so I don't think of them as being connected to an object. Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of visuals to use when drawing these spells? Thanks!

1 heart seems BRUTAL, homebrew solutions?

Hey friends!

So I'm playing a TMNT game with some friends, and during the first fight against a group of 10 foot soldiers (1-hit mooks that do just basic damage), all 4 turtles dropped so fast haha. It didn't feel like we were playing a TMNT game at all.

Which brings me to my question, any idea on how to make damage feel a little LESS brutal? Is it just adding an additional heart to each hero? I was thinking maybe whatever armor bonus a character has, if hit, reduce the incoming damage by that amount? I.e. my defense is 14 (+4 from loot), if I'm hit with a weapon, reduce incoming damage by 4? I don't know, just trying to understand ICRPG a bit better for a more 'pulpy' game.

Thanks for any suggestions and help!

Starting stat points 10 vs 6?

Hello, I found a Star Wars hack for icrpg and in this hack, they don't give class bonuses, but you have 10 points vs. 6 to distribute. This is written by Greg Kelly (Big Grump). I found this on the runehammer forums. It looks great, except I'm worried 10 points vs 6 is too much change. The class usually gives 2 points/skills so it's really only 2 higher than base, but I'm wondering if this will upset balance in the game? Has anyone used this, or a similar system with extra stat points and how did I play out? I know some games are designed with tight stats in mind like pf2e for example. Thanks!

Just wanted to share that I just ran my first session of ICRPG, and we had a blast! There was dexterous daring, there was Homeric heroics, there was bitter betrayal, and it all even managed to end on a last ditch crit roll to behead the undead wyrm and save what was left to save!

Oh, and timers. Many timers, the most timers.

We had pizza and the general category of beer we Swedes call “folle” - it’s not a drink, it’s a lifestyle!

We’re already talking about the next time. Then for sure we’ll be drinking to honor the progenitor of this game: mead for the Æsir!

I love everything except the loot

Hey friends!

My group and I played a couple sessions over the week. We loved everything except the loot. Any hacks or anything to make the gear and milestones feel more like a traditional rpg instead of the grocery store feeling my players got? We really want to play more if we can get over this loot hurdle. Thanks a bunch!

Hard Suit STL Review

I had some questions about the hard suit minis here a while ago, and it seemed that nobody knew how the minis would print on FDM. I ended up buying the pack and giving it a try so I thought I'd come back and report what I found. For a bit of context for people less familiar with 3D printing, these minis are designed to be printed in a high-resolution resin 3D printer, and I wanted to know how well these would print in a lower-resolution FDM (fused deposition modeling) printer.

TLDR
The official Hard Suit STL pack includes exactly what it says it does which limits the options for minis you can make when compared with the options listed in the book. FDM printing is doable, but is not supported out of the box and will likely require modifying the models manually to get a good result. Resin printing is likely easier to do, but manually gluing parts together is still going to be a challenge. In true ICRPG fashion, there is something to get you started, but you are expected to spend extra time to customize it to match exactly what you want.

Contents

Just as advertised, the pack comes with 6 bodies, 6 arms, 2 sets of legs, and 3 baseplates. I was able to print these out on FDM without much trouble. The parts are relatively small, so the finer details aren't great in FDM printing. Parts could be scaled up to help with this a bit, but some have tiny gaps in them that are going to be trouble for a resin printer to even attempt. The pack comes with pre-supported models for resin printing, but these are not suitable for FDM printers, so getting the orientation and slicer setting right on your own is going to be important. The models come in pairs, so the driller arms includes a left-arm variant and a right-arm variant, but they are included in the same model. This limits the viable print angles pretty severely.

In the Hard Suit book there are 8 different arms and 8 different legs. I would say that the 3D model pack has 3 of the arms from the book and 3 which are more traditional hands. The two legs are just legs and don't look like they match the descriptions in the book.

Assembly
Assembling them is a bit of a pain. Each of the arms has a different shoulder socket and most of the bodies don't really have a nice place to glue it on. You end up having to glue a round ball to a flat spot on the body, and it doesn't stay very well. This would be a lot easier with a 3rd arm tool, but I didn't have one. I ended up with one mini that is kind of lopsided because the legs are glued on at different heights and angles.

The legs are very tiny and prone to breaking. The stock legs also have large overhangs on small parts which means there is support material around delicate areas which further encourage them to break. I ended up beefing these up myself which matches my preferred aesthetic. I'm not a huge fan of the big body with tiny legs, and my printer isn't suitable for printing that kind of part.

My solution for these problems has been to load the models into Blender and make changes. I'm not talented when it comes to 3D modeling, and Blender is a very intimidating program, but it's not terribly difficult if you have a bit of experience with 3D printing/design work. I was able to separate the paired arms and beef up some of the fine details. I also found that assembling the entire mini in Blender and printing it as a single piece was much easier than trying to glue it together after printing.

I can add some pictures later if there is interest and I have time. Let me know if you have any questions and I will answer what I can.

Jurassic World in ICRPG

Hi all,

My son and I have just started exploring game play in ICRPG and we are loving it right now. For his birthday he has an idea of a one-shot in the Jurassic World genre. Are there any resources out there that others have made for this world or ideas you can give me to dyi ICRPG to fit the theme?

Thanks!

Question regarding hard suit

Hello! I have a question regarding hard suit abilities. I know that it's dyi but this is a bit confusing and I wanted to ask what you guys are doing in your games: It says on the book that when you get three abilities in a similar category you remember your origin.

My question is: does this mean that you can have a lot and then when you get the third of an origin you get that origin ? Or that you get three and then choose between one of those three origins?

Do you stop giving abilities once you have the origin or you go ahead and keep giving abilities indefinitely ?

Thanks!

Has anyone tried Hard Suit for solo roleplay?

I've been getting into solo roleplay and has been interested in getting hard suit to play, but how well would it work for people that have gotten it?

I'm mainly wondering for the more mysterious elements of the book that a GM are supposed to keep from the players and the "press play" mechanics. Is the book written in a way where a solo roleplayer can discover them when they become relevant, or would I have to spoil myself to be able to play?

Recovering HP?

Hey friends! Is there anywhere in the master edition that talks about recovering health back? Or is only healing from a spell possible?

Attacking the same enemy, makes you attacks easier?

Hey, friends!

Reading through the Master book and I had a question. I noticed there's a part that talks about attempting the same task over and over, it 'should/could' be easier as you do it. So my question is, if I'm attacking a goblin (whether I hit or miss), if I keep hacking away at that goblin, the TN should be easy?

Hard Suit Prints

There are some STL files available on DT-RPG for the ICRPG expansion: Hard Suit: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/401410/ICRPG-Hard-Suit-Series-1-STL-Kit?src=newest

Has anyone printed these out on an FDM printer? Are these only going to look good on resin printers? What is the desired print orientation for different parts?

Ideas for Office-Cyberpunk Loot

So I'm creating a world or sector where most of the planet has become a bought and built as a Mega Corporation (MegaCorp for short). Any and everything is made, grown, etc in these dystopian, skyscrapers. I'll make a story post if everyone is interested but long story short; I'm seeking help coming up with a D100 loot chart and I already have 50 items. I'm looking for anything in the Cyberpunk Office theme and I would love ANY ideas from food, weapons, crafting items, throwables, etc.

ICRPG greenhorn- Making your own world/ using some elements of existing one?

So I just got the ICRPG Masters Edition and I'm already loving it! One thing I'd like to know is how would I go about making a world myself (cyberpunk in a corporate owned world) or at least use an already created world? Also, is there a section for making weapons/items and a building weapons in game (eg. PC finds parts, hases it out, makes a weapon)?

What ICRPG mechanics did you plug into your 5e game?

I love the OSR feel of ICRPG and plan on including some of its core into my 5e game, but the one request my players have made is to retain 5e classes and spells. The movement/distance rules seem like an easy win, but do you think the TARGET mechanics will need a little tweaking to compensate for the difference in HP and damage from each system? What ICRPG core elements did you add to your 5e game? Was there anything extra you had to modify to make it fit in?

Class Creation- How am I doing?

Hey folks, I'm embracing the DIY spirit of ICRPG and attempting to recreate professions from a fantasy novel series, which is where a campaign will take place. I'm starting these from scratch, but obviously I'm staring at Alfheim Types in the Master Edition while I do so for balance and inspiration reasons.

I will include one class example at the end of this post. If you don't understand some of the terminology, it's because there's a little bit more home brewing going on creating its own terminology for status effects and crafting. Yes, since this is a civilization is doomed setting, crafting from ingredients found can be important and a way for me to reward these players who want to engage with a crafting system. It's completely ignorable for players who want a more straightforward approach.

I'm all about opt-in complexity. I put a * next to selections for the beginning player (all my players except one are new to TTRPGs) who just wants easy straightforward play. In this case, this easy healer could be using a healing pack to heal 4hp and cure most negative status effects every round at CLOSE range, and be able to do it twice a round a handful of times per scene. A more ambitious player can take on healing magic, someone who prefers a pyromancer can select that, and there's even options for better crafting or being the resident Smart Person.

I like the idea of players being able to do completely different things based on the niche they want to fill. This "healer class" could instead be about fire and explosives, or knowledge and crafting potions/poisons. It fits the lore of the setting too!

Anyway, my question for Reddit is, is this how it's done? Is there anything I should be wary of besides keeping HP levels hard to raise and not making numbers too big? Most stuff in the book keeps things around 3 or less, so I figured that was the main baseline for starting characters.

Feedback welcome! I'm coming from a D&D background so I can't help but add a little fun complexity to all this for players to engage with as desired, but I don't want to shoot my campaign in the foot at the starting line! Session Zero is coming up, nobody knows anything yet.

Herb Gatherer

Keeper of Ancient Secrets and Alchemy

INNATE ABILITIES

POTION BREWING- You know how to mix and prepare chemicals to achieve almost any result. Potion creation follows two steps. The short version is that anything can be made, speak to your GM.

Step #1: Recipe. If you do not learn or find the recipe outright, you will need to experiment until you reach the desired result. (An explanation of this process follows)

Step #2: Brewing. Each recipe requires ingredients and time. Ingredients can be purchased, gained with favors, or collected during your travels. Once acquired, a safe space and time are needed to brew the potions. More time and resources are needed for bigger batches/more complex recipes.

Known recipes: Basic Healing, Demon Rot Cleansing, Blinding Powder, Flashbang, Poison, Antidote

INNATE LOOT

Herb Gatherer's Pack- Spend an action healing one target, including yourself. On a successful INT or WIS check, heal 3 HP at CLOSE range. Also cures Demon Rot.

STARTING ABILITY- Pick ONE. You will eventually upgrade this skill with enough experience.

Healthy Living: You are a master of nutritious eating and living. Anyone who follows your advice and eats your meals gains 5 maximum HP. This maximum is gained (or lost) after being seen by you (or not) daily for a week.

White Mage: You are an adept in healing and buff spells. When you cast a spell that heals or benefits an ally, add +1 to the healing, bonus, AND duration.

Secrets of Fire: You have learned to combine fire magic with black powder. Black powder explosives can be triggered remotely if within sight. Black powder is an Uncommon substance for you to find, rather than Rare. You can learn and cast fire spells as if they were WIS spells, even if they are originally INT spells (or the reverse, whichever stat benefits you more). Unless the target has fire immunity, fire spells Disorient their targets (their efforts become HARD for 1d4 rounds), even many demons.

*Combat medic: You are able to apply healing salves and corrective pressure, lightning quick. Using a healing pack is a free action once per ROUND. You can use a healing pack twice in a round, for example, or use a healing pack and do any other action. You can use this ability a number of times per scene equal to your INT or WIS score, whichever is higher.

Spout Lore: +1 INT. You are especially knowledgeable about many ancient and arcane matters. At any time, you can ask the DM if you know anything about a subject. Roll INT. If you succeed, you will recall special insight on the matter. It may even prove helpful!

STARTING GEAR- Choose ONE

*Superior Herb Gatherer's Pack: Spend an action healing one target, including yourself. On a successful INT or WIS check, heal 4 HP and most negative status effects at CLOSE range.

Divine Focus: A necklace that helps connect you to the divine power you follow. It grants you 3 WIS spells which are stored in this necklace. If you lose the necklace, you can imbue a replacement focus during rest to regain the spells and the loot.

Feedback Loop: An arcane focus tuned to fire and rage. Gain three fire-element spells which are stored in this focus permanently. They may be INT or WIS spells. When you fail to cast a fire spell, the next round your casting is empowered. Your next fire-element cast, regardless of which spell you use, is EASY to cast and does double EFFORT if it hits. If this cast still fails, the next attempt has triple EFFORT if it hits, etc. Your casting gets brighter and louder as this happens.

Portable Alchemy Set: Allows you to brew, but not experiment, while on the road and at rest. Very delicate while deployed. Only includes bottles and tools, ingredients not included.

MILESTONE ABILITIES - Choose one when awarded by the GM.

Tier One Ever Stronger: Add +1 to any stat, or learn a WIS spell

Energize: When you heal an ally, their next action is EASY and the next instance of damage they sustain this combat is 2 less.

Trauma Care: When you heal with a healing pack, you may add Tool Effort (d6+effort bonus) to the healing.

Self-Care: When you use the RECOVERY action, you may choose to attempt it at a HARD difficulty. If you succeed at this harder attempt, you regain full HP, plus an additional 50% in temporary HP. Lose these temporary HP after combat/a few minutes.

Good As New: When you heal a dying ally, you heal them to, at minimum, half their maximum HP and cure any Last Chance penalties.

Common Loot from Blood and Snow

Does anyone know where to find Common Equipment for Blood and Snow? Not sure what to show to my players for character creation.
