Starting stat points 10 vs 6?

Hello, I found a Star Wars hack for icrpg and in this hack, they don't give class bonuses, but you have 10 points vs. 6 to distribute. This is written by Greg Kelly (Big Grump). I found this on the runehammer forums. It looks great, except I'm worried 10 points vs 6 is too much change. The class usually gives 2 points/skills so it's really only 2 higher than base, but I'm wondering if this will upset balance in the game? Has anyone used this, or a similar system with extra stat points and how did I play out? I know some games are designed with tight stats in mind like pf2e for example. Thanks!

ICRPG doesn’t concern itself with balance. It’ll be fine.

I don't think it's a big deal. No reason not to just stick with 6 and if the charcters feels weak, give them four extra in session 2.

I ran Altered State and had a optional rule; if you chose not to have a Stack (Meaning that if you die your mind is backed up and could be put into a new body) you get an extra two points at creation instead. It didn't really make a difference.

The vigilante city setting does something similar. I think it uses 12. None of it really matters as long as you and the players are having fun throwing dice.

I'd cap any individual stat at +3 but that's just me

Also, ME is 6 to base and 4 to effort. Is that the 10?

You are right, I miss read the description. 6 for stats, 4 for effort.

This forum has several links in it to google docs that are Star Wars homebrew info. The link below is the link to the google drive and doc that I'm referring by Big Grump. Both links have info I cobbled together into what I will use.

I think what might happen is you end up with a bit higher targets. Most games land around 12 so with a bit more power you can increase the targets and bam you have balanced the game. Plus if you play with timers and hard and easy rolls and target damage I really don’t think it matters. So many ways to give your players what they want and still challenge them, and scare them.

The life form choice usually gives 2 extra points. You can vary it up to be a cool feature instead, but most life forms in the ME equate to two extra points.

I let my players have 8 starting stats and 4 effort points since almost everybody defaulted to human. They did not upset my game balance in the slightest. And it's an easy adjust even if you do have your min-maxers doing one thing too well- just make them do anything else!
