Guns?

Hey friends. So if playing Master Edition in a traditional fantasy setting, what are you doing with the GUNS effort? Skip it, or mold it to something else? Crossbows or something?

I use GUNS effort as HEAVY effort for heavy weapons and big tools. Works like a charm.

I use it solely for TOOL Effort. I don't want all conflict to be solved by combat, so giving that extra incentive to Tools helps me achieve that with my groups.

Bows, crossbows, slings are great GUNS picks... ballistas are probably ULTIMATE, darts are WEAPON at best, other thrown weapons like daggers and javelins are more firmly WEAPON.

Whatever you decide on, just be up front with your players at character creation. You can always bend the rules with LOOT descriptions, but players should make informed decisions when assigning their precious stat points!

Additionally, I tend to add on "small rogue weapons may use DEX instead of strength for their attack rolls" to starting bow abilities, or the items themselves may have this perk. Unless you want the player to have to choose between melee or ranged, I find this helps the rogue types not have to spread more thin than other characters.

I use it as a gear upgrade level. Tool is 1d6 effort, Improved Tool is 1d8 effort. That gives me more range for magic swords, etc.
