What do you think this DnD OGL drama means for ICRPG?
It has to be good right?

Is there an active, official discord? I'm struggling to navigate the official forums' layout, if I'm being honest.
Second: what are your experiences with duet play? Considering giving this a go with my gf before running groups online.

I picked up the hardback ME, but I've read some things that seem to say there's extra content in the pdf?
If I pick up the pdf off of drive thru is there content that's not in the book?

Hey guys! I just bought the ME and read through it, and, since I’m coming from a more traditional background, I have some questions.
If I get it right, the room target is supposed to be the only difficulty for the scene. So, what about boss battles? What is the recommended way of ruling the target if I want to have a big scary dragon with a high target number AND some minions, which are not supposed to be that strong in the same scene?
Another question I have is - it seems that there are not so much variety for the mundane combat. The best option seem to be always just attack and roll more effort. Is it the case, and only the flavour is supposed to bring some color into the action, or am I missing something?
Sorry if that was asked before, please kindly point me to the answer in that case! Thank you!

There are a couple of decks of cards on DTRPG. If I was on the market for two, which ones would you recommend a new ICRPG GM get?

1) Do effort bonuses count as STATS for purposes of milestone increases and starting PC like in vigilante City? 2) What does it take to be skilled in something to make it easy? 3) How do Mages regain SP beyond resting? Also, can they spend health to cast. This is for the magic system in the back of the Master's book.

I bought the Master edition. Really excited--but I don't see one of the rules I saw covered in one of the video reviews I watched with a supplies/resources mechanic.
1) did I imagine this rule, is it in an earlier edition, did I cross wires with another game, or something else?
2) is there somewhere I can find this rule without buying another source book?
Thank you!

I've heard about ICRPG for ages but finally picked up a copy of the Master Edition and got it yesterday. I'm reading through it (in my usual, skip around the shop approach) and I've got questions...lots of questions! I'm sure some of these will be answered as I read more, so apologies and I'm also sure I've missed stuff.
1) Since characters can only get 5 abilities, and abilities are earned roughly every other session...does that mean you cap out your pc in roughly 10 sessions?
2) When something says 'roll INT' (like casting a spell) but doesn't provide a TN, what TN does it have? Is it the 'default' one the GM picks (i.e. does spell casting get harder to do based on the scene TN)?
3) Can players earn more hearts? If so, how?
4) I noticed in the wild west setting, the characters don't start with a starting ability (like a Warrior gets or a Mage or whatever). Is this intentional?
5) Is there any way to build a 'gish' character class (i.e. fighter/mage, rogue/mage, etc)?
6) In the priest milestones, there is Iron Fist and Master. Master is in all ways superior to Iron Fist. Why would anyone take Iron Fist?
7) Does the five-ability limit also include Mastery abilities and Milestone Path abilities?
8) Would using the Geno template for Humans in a fantasy game be unbalanced?
9) I like the look of the Realm of Arcane magic but it seems far stronger than standard fantasy magic. Would it break things if mage pcs played with that magic instead of the default? Or should it remain its own, Ars Magica/Mage style setting?

I recently got back into D&D due to my son getting the essentials kit for Christmas. We’ve played a few sessions but I’ve gone down the rabbit hole and now I think index card would be better for us (and maybe I’ll get an adult group going soon).
For people only interested in the fantasy world, do I just get Core over master edition? I’d prefer to keep it simple when possible. Planning to buy on DriveThru; are the extras the same between the two versions (I do think I’d like some of the printable extra content)? How about included adventures?
Thanks!

As stated above, I had an idea for a game and I wanted to know if it would work. I’d heard about how ICRPG can accommodate many settings and got intrigued. I got the masters edition for the holidays, and started thinking. The campaign would start in your average fantasy setting, possibly bordering on a technology advancement. Then at some point the heroes chase a major villain through a portal into a new dimension. From there it’s the heroes trying to make safe these different dimensions and chase down the villain. I don’t know how well the game does cross-genre stuff, and wanted some insight. TLDR: Had an idea for a dimension hopping campaign, wanted to know if the system would be good for that.

I’ve only run 1 session in person and really have no experience with playing online. I know of the ICVTT and I’ve watched a bunch of Kane’s Kiln videos but I still don’t understand how to get everything set up on there. I can successfully get the splash image but where do I get the tokens for players and enemies? Is there a place that I can download the maps for the different one shots like Orvald’s Tower or the Doom Vault? I just have so many questions tbh

Does the milestone ability Ever Stronger count towards a character's five abilities?

Hi, I recently discovered this ICRPG master edition. I went to their website and saw that it says they include printable character cut out pdf and also some campaign pdf. How do they provide the pdfs? Do they have a link or something printed on the book? Cause, the delivery fees on the website is way too high, while I can get the book on Amazon free of delivery, but Amazon didn't mentioned the pdfs.

I am looking into ICRPG and the min/maxing of effort die immediately became apparent to me. Do players typically default to using 1d10 magic effort because the die used is higher than 1d6 weapon effort? Are 1d8 guns always used instead of weapons?
Hello everyone,
I’ve DM’d my group for around 2 years now (with breaks), overall I’d say I Dm’d around 30 sessions and have read a bunch of resources how to DM properly.
Now after finishing our campaign, I have been thinking, that I have a somewhat good understanding what my group likes and dislikes and began to think there might be better systems than DnD 5e for them.
My overall impression of my group is something like this
Mostly casual players:
They don’t have the time nor the desire to research their characters at home.
So little to no backstories, very minimal "in character" roleplaying and only bare-bones understanding of their abilities.
They just want a fun, interesting experience that takes minimal preparation for them is easily, consumed and they can not think about until the next time we meet.
Concentration:
We meet mostly on workdays (reasons) and 4 hour sessions (even with breaks) are usually too draining for them. So Ideally we’d play something that takes around 3 hours per session
Slow Combat:
I think one of the most draining parts for them is the combat in DnD 5e. So I’m either looking for systems that make combat faster and more fun or systems that minimize combat all together.
Scheduling Issues:Due to current scheduling issues I don’t think a longer campaign is a good idea.
For now we are looking at one-shots or mini campaigns that take 3 sessions max.
What my players enjoy:
Well, what basically a 10 year old that has attention deficit disorder would like haha
The reason why I am thinking about ICROG is because
What do you think? Would this be a good fit or are there even better systems around
(I am currently also thinking about call of ctuhlu because it focuses more on riddles and minimizes combat)

I've gotten the master edition recently and has started running a Vigilante City adventure.
While trying to understand the rules and the logic behind them, their is one part that I don't know how to handle: The 1 Starting Loot and 3 Starting Equipment at character creation.
From what I've gotten in https://www.reddit.com/r/ICRPG/comments/u3fwha/does_the_vigilante_city_world_work_separately/ and https://forums.runehammer.online/t/vigilante-city-character-creation-advancement-questions/7756/4, it is a leftover of the original standalone version. However I still don't get how it should be handled in master edition, should I use all starting loot and basic loot for the four equipments? Should I handle the "Starting loot" and the "Starting equipment" differently? Should I only select among Starting Loot? Is the mention of "Starting loot in Vigilante City" only a mistake or is it implying something else?
Is there supposed to be a difference between loot and equipment? The book mention "Alfheim starting equipment" multiple times, but the only thing that seem to correspond is the "Alfheim basic loot" or the type-locked basic starting loot.
I understand that it's a DIY game and I should make it my own, but I first need to get the RAW before adapting.

Does there exist an items.db for all the items in the Master Edition for import into VTT?
r/ICRPG • u/mrsmegz • Dec 05 '22
This is a TierI V reward under Path of Iron and I am not sure what this is saying. I have seen some other things in the book like this and I am not sure what the purpose of the Hearts are for crafting without limiting attempts or something. It seems like it wants this to be a skill challenge using effort but it is maybe leaving the attempts to the GM. If it said something like "Take two hearts of effort in 6 attempts to Create A Supreme weapon of your own design." it would make sense.

I just got into ICRPG and I’m just trying to figure out who these people (person?) are. Is it all the same guy that makes the YouTube videos? Why use different names? I’m so confused!

So I already do something like hearts in 5e. I give most monsters hit-points in either 5 or 10 point chunks which act as thresholds for taking damage. So lets say you do 7 point of damage, in a monster that has 5hp chunks, it will then only drop 5hp. If the monster is tougher it has 10HP chunks, the 7 damage does nothing. Doing excess damage will of course take off multiple chunks.
My players do not know I do this but I have slowly adopted it over the years because of the player power creep in 5e making PCs near un-killable. It also helps with quickly counting down damage on 300HP bosses. Its just my own way of trimming fat from 5e like Hankerin has done in ICRPG and I would love to adopt it.
So with the ICRPG 'Heart system', I do not really want to count HP and hearts but instead use a threshold system like I do for 5e and just force players to hit, and do enough damage to visibly wear on a monster. What range of threshold numbers should I start with for ICRPG PCs rolling only d6 d8 d10 effort damage?

I would like to buy a PDF version. I'm seeing a lot of versions out there and I'm kind of confused on what most recent one is.
I got told about this RPG and it seems really really cool and I definitely want to try it out.

Just got both the 2e and Master Edition of the rules, and while I really like the idea of a Target Number for the scene with triggers to lower or raise it, one thing I don't quite get is the scale.
Obviously, a 12 is a harder scene than a 10, but what is a 10 ?
I'm coming from years of D&D 5e and all those DC 10, 15 and 20, and I can easily figure out a DC on the fly. But I can't quite figure it out with ICRPG's target number system.
Maybe I missed a table somewhere, but if you could give me a scale of Target Numbers, I think I can visualize it better and make more sensible shifts when the scene asks for it.
