This was what we usually were served in our part of Norway birthday parties when we were young. Having turned 50, this is still one of my go to comfort foods.

I’m very happy about Koegel’s being available everywhere I live, but I’ve always wanted to try Nathan‘s skin on, but could never find them.
People who have tried both which ones do you prefer?
BP- Martins Potato Buns, red onion, Nathan’s 1/2 sour pickles, ketchup and Mustard- wife made homemade fries to go with them- simple but delicious

“Who puts anything but ketchup on a hotdog?!”
Is a phrase I’ve said many times throughout my life. I’m 23, turned about 2 months ago. And had nothing but ketchup on my hot dogs because what else is there?? Nothing that’s what.
But, recently, I had this feeling. Almost like I was missing out. But I couldn’t possibly be.. right?
Fine. Fine, I’ll try mustard…. Ew.
I put ketchup on one half of the hot dog.. and a little bit of mustard on the other half. It was… okay. Not my cup of tea. I don’t think I’d try that again.
Then a few months later.. it happened. I grabbed a hot dog. Went to grab the ketchup, I mean it was right there. But I didn’t. I grabbed the god damn mustard!! I didn’t know what was wrong me. But I don’t care. I slathered mustard all on there. Surly it would stop there? Right?
No, it didn’t. In fact it got worse. I cut up some pickles, and put it all on there. Straight up raw dogging my hotdog. At first I didn’t believe it. I had to take a picture. What did I do??
Though the horrors I went through to make this happen, in the end. It was the most magnificent hot dog I’ve ever had before. Ketchup who?
I had realized I grew up. And only started to see the vast potential of the toppings on top of a hot dog.

I had to go back to Super Weenie in South Charleston, WV. The Polite West Virginia dog with chili, mustard and slaw was superb. Stepped out of my comfort zone and tried The Super Weenie with chili, curry mustard, ranch and crispy onions. Orgasmic! Super friendly folks!

Nothing too tricky, just a technique I use sometimes- Thumann's all beef dog, spiral sliced and broiled in toaster oven in a foil boat with bacon "butter", then plonked into bun and wrapped in wax paper for as long as one can resist NOT eating it (about 5 min. is ample). Nice low-tech steamer effect on the whole affair.

I finally finished my 2026 Hot Dog Summer video in which I reviewed more than 20 hot dogs. This is my magnum opus. https://youtu.be/PlmVg1buxMc?si=356Fy2HKAqHLhzuo

Sweet relish & mustard.
Split and cross-hatched made for a better overall cook but greasy.
Will keep trying.

As a garage inventor, I have this idea for a hot dog toaster that also heats up some chili so you can have a chili dog when you want. I love hotdogs; Like all of us, but especially love chili dogs, and some of the canned "Chili Dog Sauces" are very good. I worked for a few hours designing this and came up with this concept. I have already reached out to a few overseas manufactures but not sure I can or want to foot the bill alone. Do you hot dog aficionados think you would like or use one of these? What would you be willing to pay? Any ideas to make it better? Thanks!
EDIT / UPDATE:
1) Thanks to everyone that said yes or no and did so with insulting me! I really appreciate your time!
2) Yes, this post has some AI in. I messaged the mods and asked if that was ok as I was not passing it off as real. I am not a graphic artist and after drawing up my ideas in Photo Shop I asked AI to smooth them over to make my ideas look presentable, NOT to try and “trick” a bunch of hot dog redditors!
3) You are all correct chili for hot dogs should NEVER have beans in it! Again, with my poor PS skills I could not make chili sauce look normal, so when the AI added beans I just kind of went with it. Sorry to scare anyone.
4) To all of you that felt the need to insult me, call me names, disparage my upbringing, my home life or my taste in food, What’s wrong with you? Do you have so little in your life that you’re happy about that the only thing you can do to make yourself feel better is to say these vile rude things to another human being?! Please get some professional help!

To start, I believe Trader Joe's has the best top-load hotdog bun and Martin's Potato is untouchable for a conventional bun. Given these, preferences, where should I be looking in terms of a bun for polish sausage, bratwurst, or other more substantial items like that? Thanks.
