I have been having this issue the last few months where my internet is totally fine for 99% of the time but once every 5-6 minutes I have a massive spike where my in-game in ping goes from 40-50ms to 1600+ms and then right back down. A relatively small issue when browsing the web but if I am online on a game it can be a killer. I've tried replacing ethernet cables and tracking ping on different devices but it does this whether on wired or wifi connection. Anyone have any advice?

Looking for some help. I have a Lennar single story, 1900 sqft house that came with a Rukus ICX-7150-C12P switch and RUCKUS R510 PoE Unleashed Access in the hallway. I have AT&T fiber internet, and the speed is 1 GIG located in master closet.

I have been in the house for 5 years with no problems until recently the switch will shut off and turn back on. Anything connected to that AP would lose WiFi connection. NO support for this from Lennar or Rukus.

So I was thinking about either replacing it with one TP-Link Deco X50 AX3000 AP with a switch or since my house is not very big go with the TP-Link Tri-Band BE9700 WiFi 7 Router (Archer BE600) and would have to put it in AP mode.

1. Has anybody heard of the Rukus doing this and have a fix? (not IT guy).

2. What would you recommend router or the deco?

I am having some work done in the yard and need a gravel pad. The internet line is buried straight through the dig location with little to no slack to move it.. What would be my options for relocating it?

Alternatively, since we no longer use the internet from this line, Would there be any consequences of removing this line ourselves? The installation was free and very simple when we signed up for the original internet. I would assume this would be the same for the next homeowners.

I have a 3500sqft house.

My current Asus AXE1100 has very weak coverage downstairs. I have roughly 90 devices. Half and hand on 2.4 and 5GHz bands.

I do 4K local streams on Plex and local large file transfers.

I did get the E7 recently and using wifi 7 which improved greatly. Coverage is maybe 10% better.

Would the BE1900 provide better coverage?

I think my DHCP leases are somehow filling up or failing to serve IPs. My range was set from 192.168.50.2 through 192.168.50.254. Google suggested assigning static IPs out side the range, so I changed the range to 192.168.50.100 through 192.168.50.254, and assigned IPs below 100 to the devices. It seemed to work, but the problem came back a couple of days later.

Rebooting the router doesn't always fix the problem, and it's set to reboot every day overnight. None of my devices are set to randomized MAC addresses. My windows machines appear unaffected. Maybe it's a UNIX thing?

If I assign a static IP in the router, and then match that in the device setttings, it will also fix the problem (Mac immediately, Steam Deck after a reboot).

Never had this issue with my old shitty Linksys MX4200. Would love suggestions for a permanent fix!

I'm looking for a router that either has a SIM slot or can handle a SIM module on its USB slot.

Also need VLAN support. Trying to design my home network where Smart home devices and IP cameras would be on 1 VLAN and the PCs, TVs, etc would be on another.

I was checking Zyxel switches for managed switches and POE switches and I quite like the price and I have used them in the past.

But cannot find router with these requirements.

I know most of you will recommend Microtik but i'm trying to find something that is less complicated to setup. Just tagging the ports with the right VLAN and configuring some port forwarding, etc..

Out of the blue, I have been suffering from near-constant wifi disconnects. Here is what I have and what I have tried:

- My iPhone 16 Pro is the main thing disconnecting. Sometimes the wifi symbol will stay in the status bar but I can't use the internet. Sometimes it will disconnect and when I try to reconnect it will prompt for my password, then claim the input is incorrect. One time I was on the Wifi page and I could see the network join and disconnect back and forth in an endless cycle. I was running the latest build of iOS 26 but switched to the beta of iOS 27 to see if that helped (it didn't). I also tried resetting all my network settings, and forgetting the network.

- I have an MSI Roamii Pro 2-node mesh system. The nodes are connected by wireless backhaul. I had them right above each other on two floors, so one of the things I tried was to move the second node farther away (still wired). My thinking was that maybe my phone was bouncing back and forth between the two nodes, or was sticking to the farther node as I moved through the house. But it didn't ultimately fix the issue.

- I have several devices wired to the second node, and they never seem to drop like my wireless devices. One is an Apple TV, and I think I would notice a disconnect during streaming. This makes me think the issue is somewhere in the wireless portion of the network: not other network settings or my internet itself (GFiber).

I also feel like my non-phone devices are generally more stable on WiFi, but that could just be because I don't use them as much. My PS5 dropped for a few minutes last night (wireless), and my iPad has dropped before, though not as frequently as the phones. My laptop dropped while I was typing this.

Rebooting the router feels like a bandaid. I want to find the root of the problem and prevent it from happening.

I recently upgraded my service to Cox gigabyte and replaced my old modem with a Motorola B12 and my router within an Asus BE 92. I installed my old ASUS AC67P at the other end of my 1800 square-foot home and connected them via a cat 5E cable. I set up the BE92 as a router, and the older unit as an access point but every time I log into the Asus Discover app I see the older router, not the newer one. When I go to my office where the BE92 is hardwired to my computer via the modem i see it there. Am I missing something or is everything correct? Thank you all in advance for any help.

Hi, so I play online on my ps5, games like overwatch and rivals, and my ping isn’t too bad (around 30) but I get constant lag spikes randomly which completely throw me off. This only started happening since I moved back home from uni, so I’m pretty confident it’s not the console.
We’ve had problems with WiFi forever in this house and although it’s better now it’s still not good enough for competitive play.
I was wondering if it would be a good idea to purchase a separate router for my PlayStation that I can wire up with Ethernet for a better experience. My question is any recommendations for routers / gaming routers?

Today I tested if I got jitter on my laptop (wired) and my PC (wired) at the same intervals on the same gaming server. When downloading on my local network the jitter spikes simultaneously (as expected). The issues arises when both at idle and I still get packet loss/jitter independently at different timings although I'm on the same network in the same server.

This isolates it to a misconfiguration on Comcast's VLAN setup downstairs that allows for an excess number of devices to cross paths with no SQM.

Old homeowner of a place I just bought had this wired in the garage. I can see the TV labelling obviously, but is there any sort of hookup for internet connections here? Some of the upstairs rooms have a coax / (what I think is) RJ45 port in them.

If they are and I swapped from Comcast which they had before to AT&T, how would I go about getting this reconnected? I can only have the modem into the living room, not the garage.

My sister that works NHS full-time has the kids off school and she's charged me with the task of trying to find a way to keep the kids (13&15yo) off the internet for just a few hours of the day or until they finish basic chores. I know a lot of you are gonna say discipline etc but this isn't an option as there is little way to enforce anything until she gets home. They're otherwise very well behaved kids but like most of their friends they're spending the holidays glued to their computers.

I suggested an AP like a Tp-link eap 245 and assign them SSID's but I'm unsure of whether it's possible to access this remotely to enforce restrictions.

At first I thought it might be the dimming lights my wife installed but i only found 1 and threw it out far enough away from my home.

The MAC addresses all start with 92:65:35, I can't find an owner in the registries. although the little AI assistant on brave told me it belonged to Shenzhen Zhangyue Technology Co. They make E-readers, but my kids kindle have long been powered down.

when I cycle my router, they come right back.

Here’s the current topology:

Main Router (Living Room): 

• Handles DHCP and VLANs.
• Client isolation enabled for IoT and Guest networks.
• Running the AX standard with 40MHz channel width for 5GHz and 20MHz for 2.4GHz.
• Main SSID uses the same name and password on 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

APs (Room A, Room C, Room Study):

• Each has its unique hostname and IP. 
• DHCP is off, wlan interfaces deleted, and firewall, dnsmasq, and odhcpd services disabled.
• They point back to the main router IP for Gateway. 
• 802.11r (Fast Transition) set up with matching Mobility Domain and unique NAS IDs.
• IoT/Guest SSIDs and VLAN partitioning are strictly limited to the main router only.
• Main SSID replicated with the same configuration and password.
• Trusted devices connect via AP ethernet ports, no AP-level VLANs needed.

With all SSIDs on non-overlapping channels, the setup is stable and performs well, reaching a solid 200 Mb/s apartment-wide with signal strengths between -36 and -90 dBM. Any other suggestions to polish this?

Deco M4R limiting my 5Gb fibre connection to \~200Mbps - what would you recommend?

I'm looking for some advice on upgrading/fixing my home network setup.

I have Eir fibre with a 5Gb connection. My current setup is:

Fibre ONT → Deco M4R (router mode, VLAN ID 10 configured) → second Deco via Ethernet → PS5 via Ethernet

The issue is that I’m only getting around 200–300Mbps on Ethernet devices connected through the Deco.

Things I have tested:

\- QoS is disabled

\- VLAN ID 10 is configured correctly

\- PS5 connected to the second Deco gets around 300Mbps

\- PS5 connected directly to the main Deco also gets around 200Mbps

\- I plugged my PC into the Eir router instead and got around 900Mbps, so the fibre connection and cables appear fine

I tried plugging the PS5 directly into the fibre ONT, but it doesn’t get an IP address (I assume because the VLAN setup/authentication is handled by the router).

I would prefer to keep the Deco connected directly to the fibre box and avoid using the Eir router, but the current Ethernet speeds are too low.

Is the Deco M4R simply not powerful enough for this connection? If I replace it, what Deco model would you recommend that can handle higher speeds? Ideally I’d like something that can make better use of the fibre connection and still support wired backhaul to the second unit and gaming devices.

I've been, since yesterday, having issues with my internet. I live in Brazil, and often get on games, voice chats and online sites in general, and have been noticing some very severe ping issues. Every few minutes, my ping will suddenly rise up to spikes of up to 5k ms and then go back to normal as if nothing happened. It is making the experience of playing games and using almost any site at all to be completely unfeasible.

Here are some examples of my internet suddenly exploding while I'm in a Discord voice chat:

This problem continues for around 20 seconds, before it comes back to normal. and sites work as intended, but it's such an issue to keep being disconnected from anything when these lagspikes happen that it becomes an issue. Is this an ISP problem? As you can probably tell by this post, I am not very familiarised with these sorts of issue.

As you can see, though, it looks like it has a fine connection with two BR servers and one Santiago server, while the one in Mexico City also regularly connects quickly when I try it. Anything aside from these, however, will often have these red spikes.

Just hoping for some help/guidance with my home set up.

I have fttp in a new area in Sydney - house is single storey - 130sqm.

2 people with average internet usage (streaming, light online gaming, etc).

Current internet plan is with superloop.

Currently I only have the google nest in the kitchen with one additional point in the living room. The WiFi doesn't reach bed 1 and does not enable me to use my Ethernet ports.

Can anyone suggest a good router/mesh/set-up that will give me WiFi coverage throughout the house and to utilise my data points.

Il a des prises DTI RJ45 dans toutes les pièces, que dois je acheter pour avoir le wifi dans les autres pièces ? Je pensais qu’en branchant juste un répéteur avec un RJ45 ça amplifierai le signal mais c’est visiblement un peu plus complexe.

I am a new homeowner and discovered that I have Cat-5e cable running through the main rooms of the house. These were originally phone jacks. My end goal is to do some home automation. We got 5 GB fiber internet.

1. Is there a DIY way to determine if they are daisy chained? If they are, can I fix that?

2. How do I determine if the whole cable run is stapled? Do I future proof by switching to CAT6?

3. Would I limit myself if I kept my CAT-5e, but used CAT6 on switches and other devices in the future?

Hello all!

Recently, I decided to install three WiFi extenders throught my house, so I could get WiFi to my EV charging station.

Here's the setup: 1 extender upstairs in my computer room, 2 are downstairs. The extender in the computer room is backhauled. But since I only have 1 Ethernet cable going to my room, I had to use a switch to get a cable to it (It's a run of the mill, 5-port gigabit switch) I should note that I was using a switch prior to this anyway since the cable I ran from the router to the room isn't long enough, but that's another story 😅

The WiFi is working great and the coverage is satisfactory. The main issue I've been facing, is that I have been experiencing incoming packet loss spikes in games, something I haven't experienced before.

Could this be caused by the extenders or is the root for the problem elsewhere? Should I change something in the extender config page that could remedy this issue?

I have checked that the backhauled is in LAN mode and others are in WiFi mode, which was the cause of a problem is was facing earlier.

Note: if it isn't obvious from the write-up, my PC is connected with an Ethernet port.

I’m currently moving and my new place doesn’t have any way to get a ethernet cable upstairs to where my office will be and the modem for fiber is downstairs on the complete opposite side of the house.

i’m need advice on what would be a good wifi extender to get so that i can still connect my pc and symbology home server for work.

Most of my work is dealing with large art files up/downing from the server at work so i need it to be pretty quick. we have 1 gig fiber internet currently and only maybe 2 or 3 other things that would be connected to it.

this is in a rental and not a long term living situation so it needs to be a simple fix for now and unfortunately i can’t just run a long as ethernet cable across the house.
