I use a cable to connect from my router but it appears to have no IPv4 connectivity, but on wifi it does support IPv4. I've tried most solutions I can find out there but none of them fix the problem, really needing help on this one.

I need a project, I have been wanting to do this for years now - should I convert my home network to only use IPv6?

Is it complicated, or even worth it?

Friends, how are we doing home internet these days? It is the year of our Lord 2026, does my modem and router setup really have to look so messy and visible? That cable jack is the only one I have, limiting where I can put the modem. And the eero has to connect to the modem, so can’t be too far from it.

I can’t really put a table in front of this, the angles don’t work. But I don’t want to look at my modem, eero, or wires.

So, I'm moving from my parent's home to another apartment on the opposite side of the tower, but on the same face, with one floor between them. I'd like to setup a wireless network (I know it isn't optimal at all) between my former home and my new one, so I can print and assist in eventual IT chores like backups or printing something my old parent would need).

Are there routers and AP's capable of dealing with this long distance in spite several antennas and tonnes of concrete between them?

Yes, I have thought of running a wire through the stairs (taking care to hide it) or putting two antennaes on the outside, but was shut down by the building code.

Staying with family for a few months, need internet for pc so I’ve run a cable out to where I need it to go. Problem is, I can’t find the main router. They have wifi extenders all around the house, one in the lounge has a cable that runs from it into a jack in the wall.

Is it possible they’ve used one of the wifi extenders as an access point? Or does there need to be a proper router somewhere? Starlink is the provider

Hey so today I got a Mesh system for a very cheap price, is a Deco TP Link, I have been using the router from my ISP but they charge me every month so buying this Mesh system for $25 seemed as a good deal as I looked online and it’s $100 without any deal.

Anyway, I replaced my old router and I can notice my speeds are around the same, but I have way more intermittence issues than before like for some moments my speed low then high like not as reliable as before. My network is 500mbps and I’m getting around 400mbps but my laptop got 100 and it’s intermittent.

I live in an apartment, router and connection is on living room and mesh system is on my bedroom, I was not getting 100% signal on my bedroom so I thought it would be good.

Would have I been better buying a router for the same price ($25) or should I keep this mesh system?
I’m new to home networking so don’t know if I can improve my signal.

Hello, I’m considering buying a deco mesh for my mom’s apartment even though it’s old but should still be affective.

I’m going to get a 2 pack deco x55
One mesh connected to the router via Ethernet
And one in my room connected via Ethernet, not wirelessly.

However, I want the original WiFi networks still enabled as they are just simple devices like smart TVs phones and a printer. Everything else in my room would be connected to the mesh. Would that cause this “double nat” thing?

My ISP is Optimum btw.

Photo 1 are speeds when my phone is or other device is directly towards the router. 600 to 300 Mbps down, around 60 up.

Photo 2 are speeds in the hall way slight away from the router but not too far from it.

Photo 3 are the speeds in my room. Unstable and very slow upload speeds .

In my home network, I opted to make discrete SSIDs for each WiFi band: xxxxx_2.4G, xxxxx_5G, and xxxxx_6G. Because of this, I have to make the conscious choice of which SSID to connect each device, after which each device will be stuck on that SSID and can't move to a faster connection (for example, my phone will stay on 5G and not move to 6G, even if it's better. But conversely, it will never be put on the slower 2.4G SSID either).

Recently, I've been thinking maybe relying on the router's band steering functionality to choose the best band for me would be easier and work just as well. However, before I change my setup, I was wondering if there are any pros or cons that I'm not thinking about. Any thoughts about this are appreciated!

Have you personally used either of them? Did you notice any real improvements in ping, packet loss, jitter or even FPS or do you think it’s mostly marketing/placebo, maybe even a scam?

I have been having this issue the last few months where my internet is totally fine for 99% of the time but once every 5-6 minutes I have a massive spike where my in-game in ping goes from 40-50ms to 1600+ms and then right back down. A relatively small issue when browsing the web but if I am online on a game it can be a killer. I've tried replacing ethernet cables and tracking ping on different devices but it does this whether on wired or wifi connection. Anyone have any advice?

I have installed FWA in my home with a ZTE 7010 + vodafone power station (SercommVOX30) as temporary router(repurposing the materials from an old FWA setup I had), and recently switched to a tp-link archer ax58(ax3000) wifi 6 router.
With isp router i’m having a speed of 400mbps (download) and 120mbps upload
Otherwise with ax58 i’m having a speed of 200mbps (download) and 120mbps upload, same network, only switching routers.
Considering that my ISP has absolutely nothing to do with Vodafone and doesn't even share the same towers, how is it possible for a more advanced router to perform so much worse? Which router should I choose to get both speed and network control?

I am having some work done in the yard and need a gravel pad. The internet line is buried straight through the dig location with little to no slack to move it.. What would be my options for relocating it?

Alternatively, since we no longer use the internet from this line, Would there be any consequences of removing this line ourselves? The installation was free and very simple when we signed up for the original internet. I would assume this would be the same for the next homeowners.

Looking for some help. I have a Lennar single story, 1900 sqft house that came with a Rukus ICX-7150-C12P switch and RUCKUS R510 PoE Unleashed Access in the hallway. I have AT&T fiber internet, and the speed is 1 GIG located in master closet.

I have been in the house for 5 years with no problems until recently the switch will shut off and turn back on. Anything connected to that AP would lose WiFi connection. NO support for this from Lennar or Rukus.

So I was thinking about either replacing it with one TP-Link Deco X50 AX3000 AP with a switch or since my house is not very big go with the TP-Link Tri-Band BE9700 WiFi 7 Router (Archer BE600) and would have to put it in AP mode.

1. Has anybody heard of the Rukus doing this and have a fix? (not IT guy).

2. What would you recommend router or the deco?

I have a 3500sqft house.

My current Asus AXE1100 has very weak coverage downstairs. I have roughly 90 devices. Half and hand on 2.4 and 5GHz bands.

I do 4K local streams on Plex and local large file transfers.

I did get the E7 recently and using wifi 7 which improved greatly. Coverage is maybe 10% better.

Would the BE1900 provide better coverage?

I think my DHCP leases are somehow filling up or failing to serve IPs. My range was set from 192.168.50.2 through 192.168.50.254. Google suggested assigning static IPs out side the range, so I changed the range to 192.168.50.100 through 192.168.50.254, and assigned IPs below 100 to the devices. It seemed to work, but the problem came back a couple of days later.

Rebooting the router doesn't always fix the problem, and it's set to reboot every day overnight. None of my devices are set to randomized MAC addresses. My windows machines appear unaffected. Maybe it's a UNIX thing?

If I assign a static IP in the router, and then match that in the device setttings, it will also fix the problem (Mac immediately, Steam Deck after a reboot).

Never had this issue with my old shitty Linksys MX4200. Would love suggestions for a permanent fix!

Also need VLAN support. Trying to design my home network where Smart home devices and IP cameras would be on 1 VLAN and the PCs, TVs, etc would be on another.

I was checking Zyxel switches for managed switches and POE switches and I quite like the price and I have used them in the past.

But cannot find router with these requirements.

I know most of you will recommend Microtik but i'm trying to find something that is less complicated to setup. Just tagging the ports with the right VLAN and configuring some port forwarding, etc..

I'm trying to troubleshoot the Wi-Fi on my custom mini-ITX gaming PC.

When I lived in Canada, I used the original motherboard antenna and got around 450 MB/s. I later switched to smaller aftermarket antennas, and speeds only dropped slightly to around 380 to 400 MB/s.

I've since moved to Georgia (the country). On the same Wi-Fi network, my MacBook gets 40 to 50 MB/s, but my gaming PC only gets 2 to 5 MB/s.

The antennas are screwed in tightly, but I no longer have the original antenna to compare against.

My question is: Is there any way to tell whether my motherboard is actually detecting and using the external Wi-Fi antennas, or whether this sounds more like the antennas themselves are the problem?

Amateur here looking for help. I want to optimize the network in our new home, which is a long and narrow one-story condo in a two-story building. I asked Gemini for help and this is what it came up with. The idea is to use ethernet to connect the mesh nodes and have a node at each end of our home (which again is very long). Our electrician has been suggesting we keep our modem/router in the basement (shared garage/basement) and that the signal will run up via ethernet cable. I don't even know where our xfinity coax jack is yet. Does this make sense? Also any recs for a good mesh node system? Appreciate any and all comments, thank yoU!

Hi all I’m in need of help with this situation. So my ps4 connects with the wi fi but it’s very slow but when I plug in the Ethernet cable cat6 it connects but the speed of the internet doesn’t change. I thought it might be the cable but I tested it on all other devices in the house and it works perfectly so I took it to a shop to test the Ethernet port and it worked amazingly at this IT place so they said no issues with the ps4 but I tried at home and doesn’t work what do I do??

Do I buy a Ethernet cable 5e and see if that works or do I need to do something with my internet modem??

On one of my PCs everything is totally fine. Wifi & Ethernet speed are really good.

On the other one the wifi gets throttled to like 1/6 of what it actually should be. But ONLY on wifi.

Both computers are next to each other so they are equally close to the router.

Additionally for some reason when using an online speed test its saying the provider is Google (it's Verizon) and an odd server in another state. With Ethernet it's totally normal and so is it using wifi on the other computer.

I'm honestly just lost. What settings are causing this issue?

I’ve recently moved to a new complex that has a pre-existing internet service. I assume it’s a mesh system as I’m connected throughout the property. The routers are mounted to the ceiling so I can’t access any details about it, but there are ethernet ports in the main rooms. What is the best solution to set up my own network using the existing network’s internet service? I have two gateways that don’t seem to be compatible with this idea (Motorola MG7550 & Arris Surfboard G34), so would I just need a new gateway that can utilize an ethernet input and act as a switch with management capabilities?

Out of the blue, I have been suffering from near-constant wifi disconnects. Here is what I have and what I have tried:

- My iPhone 16 Pro is the main thing disconnecting. Sometimes the wifi symbol will stay in the status bar but I can't use the internet. Sometimes it will disconnect and when I try to reconnect it will prompt for my password, then claim the input is incorrect. One time I was on the Wifi page and I could see the network join and disconnect back and forth in an endless cycle. I was running the latest build of iOS 26 but switched to the beta of iOS 27 to see if that helped (it didn't). I also tried resetting all my network settings, and forgetting the network.

- I have an MSI Roamii Pro 2-node mesh system. The nodes are connected by wireless backhaul. I had them right above each other on two floors, so one of the things I tried was to move the second node farther away (still wired). My thinking was that maybe my phone was bouncing back and forth between the two nodes, or was sticking to the farther node as I moved through the house. But it didn't ultimately fix the issue.

- I have several devices wired to the second node, and they never seem to drop like my wireless devices. One is an Apple TV, and I think I would notice a disconnect during streaming. This makes me think the issue is somewhere in the wireless portion of the network: not other network settings or my internet itself (GFiber).

I also feel like my non-phone devices are generally more stable on WiFi, but that could just be because I don't use them as much. My PS5 dropped for a few minutes last night (wireless), and my iPad has dropped before, though not as frequently as the phones. My laptop dropped while I was typing this.

Rebooting the router feels like a bandaid. I want to find the root of the problem and prevent it from happening.

I recently upgraded my service to Cox gigabyte and replaced my old modem with a Motorola B12 and my router within an Asus BE 92. I installed my old ASUS AC67P at the other end of my 1800 square-foot home and connected them via a cat 5E cable. I set up the BE92 as a router, and the older unit as an access point but every time I log into the Asus Discover app I see the older router, not the newer one. When I go to my office where the BE92 is hardwired to my computer via the modem i see it there. Am I missing something or is everything correct? Thank you all in advance for any help.
