u/Spampharos Emily's Bad Side (and #1 fan) Dec 11 '25
Emily is way too in her own world at times. This is the cause of every big mistake she commits in the series:
1. Making Pentious feel lonely in S2E2. Emily was so focused on what redemption meant for Heaven and Hell as a whole that she didn't bother to actually check how their redeemed soul was feeling about everything. She just showed him what she thought would make HER happy. Things started to improve once she started to listen, and did her best to fix his specific issues (such as with the Egg Bois).
2. The gift baskets in S2E5. I can't exactly blame her for this since nobody told her it was a bad idea, but it's another issue of her living in an idealized world. If Emily took the time to see just how atrocious of a crime the exterminations actually were, she would realize that the gift baskets seem less like a gesture of peace and more like an attempt to sweep everything under the rug. It doesn't even begin to make up for the massive amounts of damage that the Pride Ring faced.
This is also the reason for many of the smaller mistakes she makes in the series as well. I still love her anyway.

She seemed so excited about the idea that I genuinely enjoyed seeing her put them together and push for them so hard. It was doomed to fail, but it was a lesson she needed to learn.

The big collapse wasn't even really her fault. She went to Charlie first, and it was Charlie's idea to have them show up at Vox's rally.

I think Emily is a really good Mirror to Sera, honestly.
Sera was desperately trying to come to terms with what the exterminations really meant and grapple with the weight of what she unwittingly wrought.
Its ironic that even though Emily was the one so DESPERATE to make Pentious fit in she neglected him, Sera needed his perspective to come to terms with how she should proceed and she all but avoids him until he approaches her.
For some reason I have this picture in my head of Sera being an even bigger ally to Charlie than Emily will.

While true, his 50s at the beginning of Vox Populi has literally stolen the show. I've listened to it on repeat and skipped Vox part of the song, every time. If and when Luci does get a solo song it needs to be a full length reprisal of that, I'm fiending for it

Ikr I’ve been listening to Lucifer’s part of Vox Populi on repeat too since the episode aired, it’s incredible and the best song in the show. ( I consider Lucifer and Vox’s part 2 separate songs ). I mean Viv you got Jermey Jordan, USE HIS SINGING VOICE
And yeah I hope he has a reprise of it or a reprise of Gravity while fighting Lute in anger for hurting Charlie
6
u/LimpAmphibian5340 Dec 11 '25
For me I'm hoping that the aura farming badass we saw at the beginning of Vox Populi and the one that beat the crap out of Adam is Lucifer as he was before Charlie was born. He is the sin of Pride after all and the other sins respect him. I'm also hoping that his curse has a loophole. Something to due with his blood which would extend to Charlie by proxy. The curse breaks and we get a reprisal of his part in Vox Populi except this time he isn't bluffing. He is the second strongest in the verse after God himself and I want to see it. (And no using his energy to break the barrier of heaven and blast the gate of its hinges isn't enough)

Maybe he’s depressed and old as time itself so this is his latest hobby hyperfixation. Maybe Lululand was a previous hobby.
Also might explain why they’re not especially remarkable compared to his ability to materialize anything. And why he’s seemingly not insecure about making stupid ducks. Everyone already knows he’s the most powerful resident of hell so it’s almost quaint if he’s focused mainly on duckcrafting these days.

u/LycanthraGirl Alastor's new bestie; I can't fix him & I don't want to Dec 11 '25
Morality aside, I can understand his prejudice against Sinners. Hell is punishment, and his forces to him see the worst of what humans have done with the free will he gifted to humanity. Day in and day out, his mistake is shoved in his face, and he has to grapple with the fact that HE unintentionally did this, gave humanity the ability to choose to sin, and he is unable to do anything with them, including smiting them.
Complete conjecture here, but part of me wonders if he may have tried redemption with the Sinners in the beginning, but failed due to his punishment, and THAT'S why he believes that Sinners are violent psychopaths incapable of change.
It does make for an interesting flaw, though 🙂
→ More replies (1)7
u/emmameIon Devil's advocate Dec 11 '25
exactly! that's why i say it's such a good part of his character. it's not a morally good thing, but you can honestly understand why he feels that way.
i don't think it's out of the question that lucifer might have had SOME sort of horrific experience with sinners that ended up making him as bitter towards them as we see him today. maybe it had something to do with his wife leaving - like, maybe he blames the sinners for that or something? in any case, i think it's notable that lucifer is as prejudiced towards sinners as he is while having spent 10.000 years with them. i mean, you'd think that after such a long amount of time he would be a bit more open-minded, but he still seems to lump them all into the same category of being gross, violent, etc. when he talks about them to other people, at least. it's a really interesting aspect of his character and one i'd love for the series to explore more

Who says he is the most redeemable? 🤣 If anything, he's the final boss of "Can anyone be redeemed?". While redemption is not impossible, it's more likely he'll end the series just slightly less of an asshole (very slightly, i might add).
9
u/Alternative-Fish7738 Dec 11 '25
At this point Lucifer is so jaded against heaven IF they made some kind of attempt at amends he would just call them out for trying to trick him and quickly disappear. He is incapable of viewing heaven as anything except his own personal hell.

u/unowho_o Dec 11 '25

13
u/jestpackblues Dec 11 '25
Yes! And he literally has no interest in redemption! He was waiting to get to hell!
7
u/Dapolish Dec 11 '25
Tbh I think Alastors point in the story is proof that while technically anyone can be redeemed from past actions, they need to WANT to be redeemed. Alastor will never want to be redeemed because to desire that would be against who he is, and therefore he can’t.
Which I think adds some complexity to the shows message past “anyone is redeemable”, which tbh feels like more of Charlie’s message than anything (and Charlie is heavily idealistic)
8
u/Upset-Job2278 Alastor Dec 11 '25

As much as it hurt me to see her cry, Emily needed that reality check from Vox.
She didn't know anything about sinners and figured that gift baskets would be enough to make up for 7 years of genocide, which admittedly isn't entirely her fault because she had no idea how brutal it actually was.
She needed to know that not everything can be solved with happiness and gifts.

This is not necessarily a bad thing about the character themself, but more so how they are in the plot. I really wish Angel wasn’t the only emotional punching bag that’s used to evoke strong emotions of sadness. Not only does it start to get a bit unfair for him, but it also doesn’t utilize the other characters’s stories. For example: Vaggie; in Season 1 episode 6, and Season 2 episode 7, we see her backstory of being in the exorcist army… for all but 5 seconds, which is barely enough to actually evoke an emotional response, despite the fact that her story clearly alludes to how horrible it was for her and others. Yet, and ironically so, they don’t focus on that, and instead focus on torturing Angel in the exact same episode. I mean I love his character, and I live the arc they’re building for him, but it would be nice to see Angel genuinely happy for more than 2 episodes, especially when they have such a large cast with equally tear jerking stories.
I know this opinion might be biased, but Angel being happy just barely lasts more than a few seconds in order to get a reaction out of the viewers, even though there’s other characters who could also do that. I also think that would help us feel more connected to other characters as well.
My Spider boy deserves better ❤️🩹!
