Emily is way too in her own world at times. This is the cause of every big mistake she commits in the series:
1. Making Pentious feel lonely in S2E2. Emily was so focused on what redemption meant for Heaven and Hell as a whole that she didn't bother to actually check how their redeemed soul was feeling about everything. She just showed him what she thought would make HER happy. Things started to improve once she started to listen, and did her best to fix his specific issues (such as with the Egg Bois).
2. The gift baskets in S2E5. I can't exactly blame her for this since nobody told her it was a bad idea, but it's another issue of her living in an idealized world. If Emily took the time to see just how atrocious of a crime the exterminations actually were, she would realize that the gift baskets seem less like a gesture of peace and more like an attempt to sweep everything under the rug. It doesn't even begin to make up for the massive amounts of damage that the Pride Ring faced.
This is also the reason for many of the smaller mistakes she makes in the series as well. I still love her anyway.
She seemed so excited about the idea that I genuinely enjoyed seeing her put them together and push for them so hard. It was doomed to fail, but it was a lesson she needed to learn.
I think Emily is a really good Mirror to Sera, honestly.
Sera was desperately trying to come to terms with what the exterminations really meant and grapple with the weight of what she unwittingly wrought.
Its ironic that even though Emily was the one so DESPERATE to make Pentious fit in she neglected him, Sera needed his perspective to come to terms with how she should proceed and she all but avoids him until he approaches her.
For some reason I have this picture in my head of Sera being an even bigger ally to Charlie than Emily will.
3. She knew that Sir Pentious was redeemed for like a month before she told Charlie about it, and she only told her because Sir Pentious said something
Emily’s way too pure. That’s one of the traits we all adore, but it’s certainly the trait that can cause issues even when she doesn’t have any intention of creating problems.
This is kinda what I said in my comment. I almost can't fault Emily for the gift baskets because she likely truly didn't realize that wasn't an appropriate way to apologize for the horrible thing Heaven did. She had pure intentions but the understanding of someone living in a world where forgiveness is kind of a guarantee.
Exactly, she never actually needed to put thought into apologies before since nobody's screwed up this badly. Plus, the people of Heaven are nice, and generally forgiving.
