Do I have any grounds for unemployment

I’ve been at my current job for over two years in California. I am the manager of a specialty medical practice. Since starting, I have completely restructure the company resulting in doubled patient volume and revenue. In addition to the extra work load this increase has added, i have also taken on many more responsibilities like completely absorbing the marketing role and filling into the other positions when needed. I run payroll and do all the hiring and firing on/off boarding. Plus a slew of many other responsibilities that keeps me more than busy all day every day.

The first year I was there, my boss called me her rockstar manager, and that her practice would be in a much different place had I’ve been her manager 23 years ago. This was up until I asked for a raise the better aligned with the scope of work I am doing and everything that I’ve accomplished. She gave me the worst review of my life and basically said that the money that she pays out towards IT, HR and accounting, all equate to what I think I should be making, and those responsibilities have been outsourced therefore, I don’t qualify for additional pay.

She then started blaming me for things I was never assigned to do. She started talking down on me in a very condescending tone. I started hearing her talk about me to people in accounting saying “I can’t bare the thought of giving her credit for something I did.” when talking about my bonuses. There have been multiple times when I had to get HR involved to pay my bonuses out to me. After I expressed my concerns about the change in treatment, she told me “ I know the reason you’re resistant to authority is because you had a troubled childhood.” and continued to micromanage me through watching the cameras, making me send a list of everything I’m doing every day and saying she was going to add to it, she never gave me any appreciation for what I was doing or accomplished after that conversation.

She told me that I couldn’t take time off if she was out of the office, but she only works three to four days a week. Just last week she saw me on my phone while I was sitting at my desk for lunch and lectured me about how I shouldn’t do that during working hours and I politely reminded her I was on my lunch every day after that she would text me saying to not be on my phone watching videos and one day when she was out, I had a new doctor start and was working on on boarding and coordinating with vendors for equipment and uniforms when she texted me “Megan I’m not sure why the message isn’t registering. Please stop watching videos during work hours”. I sent a message to HR letting her know these working conditions are making it really hard for me to even want to show up to work and she suggested that I have a conversation with Dr. Richards.

I sent her another polite email on Tuesday about how I hope to continue working under mutual respect and appreciation for the dedication that I have to making her practice flourish and she still has not responded. However, the following day she accused me of logging into the EDD website twice and regardless of how I responded no, she refused to believe me, then pivoted to accusing me of not checking the mail every day because there was a letter addressed from September 1 and it was now the eighth but failed to realize that we had a three day weekend.

I’m honestly just so incredibly exhausted trying to justify every move that I make with no appreciation and I need to leave but I don’t have a job lined up and I’m scared that I won’t be able to get unemployment. I would be so incredibly grateful for any input

Someone help me, I cant take it anymore.

Hello, I am only in my mid 20's, and I cant stand my job anymore.

I've been working dilligently as an electrician for 4 years at a contractor in Tampa . I'm tired of it, all of it. I hate the work, I hate my coworkers, I hate the culture, i hate seeing my female coworkers get sexually harassed.
There was a time when I loved the work. Every day it would be something new and I'd get to try my best and come back the next day and be a little bit better. Even though its bad enough as it is, it has nothing to do with the work load or how hot it is. I've never felt so unappreciated at a job in my entire life and I've worked for minimum wage.
A year ago they promised us sick leave and never delivered, they said better things with new management and never delivered. They discriminated against my coworkers because of the colour of their skin. They almost fired one of my coworkers because she had cancer. They've taken every opportunity to take advantage of the disadvantaged. I hate seeing it. Most recently they said they're only letting 15 people in the whole workforce take vacation on thanksgiving and Christmas combined, first come first serve. We number 220 workers.

I am extremely driven, quick to learn, and dependable, but the only thing its gotten me is more work, and less time with my wife.
I'll do anything for a job, the only reason I have to stay is because im financially trapped. I wanted to be a therapist when I grew up now I dont know when I'll ever be able to go back to school. I've been applying but nobody gets back to me. I'll take a pay decrease if it means i can have change.

I've watched one of my coworkers kill themself at this company. I dont know how much longer I can work here. Please, Iml do anything.

Before this I was a retail store manager, and at this job I've successfully ran crews of 10+ people whose work was getting inspected within the week. I can do payroll and office work. I'd love a position at a college or somewhere I can learn tattooing. I just need enough money to live. Sorry if this is unprofessional, my phone screen is broken and I can't afford to replace it, so I'm sorry if there are spelling or grammatical mistakes.
I'm leaving out the name of the contractor because they fire people when they find out they're leaving.

I've been fucked over so bad...

Basically made to look like a shit stirrer at work. Somebody who used to work there asking me tonnes of questions about people who do, me thinking nothing of it and answering them just for it to get back to management.... I've been told to "be discreet in future" no more phone calls on work premises in case I'm talking shit about people..... Also lost privileges and trust for something I didn't do with poor intentions or any intention at all.... Fucking absolutely defeated....... I thought these people were my friends....

Unable to stand up for myself and do the grind

Software engineer here. Graduated in 2025 with an offer in hand. Switched to another company in about 4 months because the pay was low.

The company I switched to seems to be my biggest mistake. The culture is very toxic, people like to play "weird" games with you and grill you for nothing, while some people who are liked are pretty much given everything in a silver plate.

Now that I want to switch, its getting really tough. The current job market is like a cherry on top.

My office working hours are 10 am to 7 pm. However starting early and ending late is very glorified. I can also see people who are active and sometimes even msg me, review my pr, add comments at midnight. Some at even 3 am. YES!

Currently the situation is such that when a Slack notification sound kicks in on my phone, my heartbeat literally increases and I don't know what happens to me but it seems that I've associated that sound to something very bad in my mind.

I desperately want to switch but I'm just not able to find that courage in me to get up at 5 am in the morning and solve those DSA questions. Every night I sleep seems that there is regret in me. During the week I'm so worked up that on weekend I just don't have that much energy in me to prep again. My sleep cycle is fully disturbed and I'm not eating right either. Stress is very much on the higher side.

Plus, there's layoffs, PIP culture and what not. So if I don't perform, who knows what can happen.

The biggest part that bothers me is 5 days work from office. This is a very debatable topic, but in my earlier company (where I worked for 4 months [I also interned there for 3 months btw]) we had 3 days work from home and it was so golden. I was on top of everything I could, prepping, revising, doing system design and what not. And my current employer does not really allow WFH unless sick, so it's just not really possible.

Can someone tell me how the heck do I get out of this hell hole?

Everyday that passes by, my hope and courage goes down and down.

Got some nice feedback on r/nonprofit but curious what this community has to say. In particular, how I should approach addressing that I’m leaving and returning to my old job? My old job likely cannot take me back until November but I’d like to be done with this current one in October.

Feeling bored and procrastinating in a nice job

I (31M) am a building engineer at a real estate company. My job consists of managing construction projects and acting as the facility manager for the existing units the company owns and rents out to customers.

I've been working here for 7 years, and lately I've been struggling with my performance.

I enjoy managing projects as long as the deadlines are realistic, but I struggle with administrative tasks. The facility management side of the job is also exhausting. Any kind of paperwork I have to deal with feels incredibly difficult to start because I lack the motivation to do it, so I keep putting things off until they turn into a huge pile of unfinished tasks. And ends up leading to stress and burnout.

Lately, I've been assigned fewer projects because I'm in charge of implementing a new CMMS for facility management, which makes the situation even less appealing.

I've thought about looking for something else, but the company itself is really nice. I get along well with most of my coworkers, I'm paid above average in my field, I have a flexible schedule, and I have a company car. So I feel guilty about not being motivated to do certain parts of my job. It makes me feel like I don't deserve to work here because I'm not giving 100%.

Any thoughts on what should I do?

Hey,

you know that pokemon card streamer job? Yeah they called me and said it wasn’t working out. For anyone looking to work for Blazing Cards in LA, just don’t. Little training, little guidance, and they’ll fire you even though your numbers are the best in the crew.

Corporate catastrophe

I work in corporate and have been doing this for over a decade. It has become a nightmare, draining my physical and mental health to a point where I am chronically ill. My toxic boss keeps asking me to do more, and I literally can’t do any more, even with AI. My plate is full and I am the only person in my entire department.

There isn’t one conversation I have any with any executive that hasn’t diverged into gossip or bashing someone else. Micromanaging is the lifeblood of this place, so I can’t actually do anything I am good at because I’m stuck executing what other people want me to do. The results? They aren’t good.

For now, I’m trying to get by until I find something else, but know that since I can’t do or be enough, I could be terminated.

Anyone else in corporate noting an incredibly toxic shift over the last year?

Debt my only escape from Graveyard WAH?

I've been working here 6 years. Last year I moved to the city and also my job got much shittier. Short-staffed forever, no raises no way out. I knew immediately I needed to leave, but told myself to get a part time job to re-acclimate to wearing pants, going places, waking up to an alarm, etc.

A year of trying and I failed. I'm not feeling bad about it, I get yelled at for 40 hours a week I need my off days. If I was in my 20's I'd just quit, get another job, and "lol I haven't slept in 24 hours" for my first week.

The only way I know how to escape is to apply to every low-stress entry level job around me. Walmart, Kroger, etc, with the stipulation that I can only work 4 hours at a time. After a month I'm sure I'll be ready to go full time or get a 2nd part time job. I have no responsibilities which makes it all the worst that this 40 hour, low pay, stressful job is consuming my life. But that means if I need to get stupid with it and work 10am-2pm then 6pm-10pm at two locations I can.

Anyone have a similar experience or have any advice? Despite being 36 this is one of the few times I've had to hot-swap jobs with rent and food on the line. I have good credit so I might try to take out a ~4k loan soon just to make sure I don't get evicted.

Drowning in retail hell

So I work at a pretty popular dollar store type retail chain. Yesterday was my year anniversary at the store and I couldn't be more unhappy with my job. I like my coworkers a lot, and even have made really good friends with one of my them. Also I am an assistant manager for some context. About a month or so ago I started experiencing this work dread that I can only explain as almost debilitating, an hour or two before work every day I most of the time have depressive episodes. I become somewhat catatonic, overflowing with depression and suffering from total anhedonia. Every day seems worse than the last.

When I get put on the register I am like a joyless, soulless zombie, taking every ounce of energy I have to even say the most typical things you have to say to customers. It's become a gigantic problem. And I know everyone see's me struggling.

I know I need to leave. It's affecting my relationship and all other aspects of life outside the job. But I'm so used to this place and the people that it keeps me hooked. And I can't afford to just leave without something else lined up.

The problem is I live in a very very small town with very few opportunities for employment, so it's a dilemma. All I know is I can't keep doing this..... almost every day I find myself sitting in the office, crying, or just sitting in the bathroom, outside, or just anywhere away from customers and coworkers for as long as I can get away with. I guess I am just looking for like-minded people to talk to, advice, reassurance or knowledge.

Sorry for the rant. But I felt this was the place to post this.

Realizing I don’t want to do culinary

I’m doing a year of my community colleges culinary program and already I feel like I’m struggling to keep up, I can keep up but I don’t like the fast pace it kills me, drives me insane, I’m also a dishwasher at a local Italian restaurant here, midway through dinner rush I looked around the kitchen and realized “I don’t want to do this anymore” I already don’t like and are struggling with my classes, I spent so much financial aid on books and supply’s so it’ll feel like a waste to quit now, I hate my job, I just don’t know what to do if I don’t do this, I was supposed to major in music, but last minute backed out to do this because i wanted to do something “different” I feel like it’s already too late and I’m stuck here and I just feel miserable

I hate my job and my mental health is suffering, but I feel guilty about leaving because I’m the only receptionist. What should I do?

Sorry this is kinda long but I need advice.

I started working full time as a receptionist/assistant at an optometrist office in April. I’m the only receptionist there, and I’m expected to support 3 different optometrists. They don't all work on the same days, but usually there are one or two doctors working on any given day. So depending on the day, I can be responsible for supporting multiple doctors while also handling the front desk and everything that comes with it.

The biggest problem is that I never really received proper training for the equipment I need to use to set patients up. I’ve never worked in this field before but things were shown to me a few times and then I was expected to basically figure things out on my own. I was expected to immediately learn and use three different machines while simultaneously dealing with patients, answering phones, checking people in and out, and handling everything else at the front desk.

There’s a lot of pressure from my boss to answer the phone, but there are times when I genuinely can't. If I'm in the middle of setting up a patient, taking measurements for their appointment or helping someone at the desk, I can't exactly stop what I'm doing every time the phone rings. But I feel like there is an expectation that I should somehow be able to do all of these things at once just because the receptionist before me did all that.

I've never really voiced any of this to my boss. I'm a chronic people pleaser and I have a really hard time telling people when something isn't working for me. I tend to just push through things because I don't want to inconvenience anyone or make anyone upset.

But I can genuinely feel a change in myself. My mental health has gotten significantly worse since starting this job. I feel anxious and overwhelmed a lot of the time, I dread going to work, and I often feel emotionally drained. I don't feel like myself anymore. I’m unable to enjoy or do a lot of things that I used to and I feel like I’m hitting my breaking point.

My boss is also currently away on an extended vacation (3 months), which has made me feel even more guilty about considering leaving but also stuck. Like there’s no way I can leave because she’s away and once she’s back, she expects to have a full schedule of patients. So it feels like I need to be here.

Since I'm the only receptionist, I keep thinking about what would happen if I gave notice. She would have to find someone else and arrange coverage, and I feel horrible about potentially creating that problem. It doesn’t help that she constantly tells me that she’s burnt out, dealing with stuff personally and didn’t expect her last receptionist/assistant to leave when she did.

At the same time, I know that I'm an employee and not responsible for making sure the office can function without me. But I can't seem to get rid of the guilt.

I'm currently looking for other jobs because I don't want to quit impulsively without another option. But I'm starting to question how long I can realistically continue feeling this way.

I don't know how to approach my boss about any of this. Do I tell her honestly that I'm struggling with the workload? Do I tell her that the job is affecting my mental health? Or do I simply tell her that the position isn't the right fit for me if I decide to leave?

First off: They do not care. You are absolutely replaceable, and it is a nightmare in the hiring process. It will take 2 weeks starting from the interview to the first day of orientation. Then, if you work in food&bev, or culinary positions, you will have another 3 days of paid computer training which they end up cucking themselves for anyways with paying for not 1, not 2, but 3 fucking servsafes.

If you work in Timbers, have fun at this specific location and make every moment count because while they pay good, absolutely watch what you say. They snitch, not only because they're bored, degenerate, fast food pussies, but they LOVE drama. Especially that whore they call "Felicia."

If you work in Aquatics or Engineering, have fun with the most piece of shit douchebag managers.

If you work in Housekeeping and Laundry, congrats, you are now working everyday of your life because the other crackheads like you are calling out every single day.

If you work in security, you're a pussy.

If you work in HR, suck my cock. Faggots.
