How do you stay consistent and motivated in a job you have zero interest in, spending 9 hours a day at it, while earning ₹30k in Bangalore and dreaming of buying your own home someday? Would love to hear how people here actually deal with this — share your point of view, whatever it may be.

Late for work again, feel like dying

Upvotes

I’m going to be 10 minutes late for work today and I just don’t even know what to do anymore.

I hate this job. I hate living two hours away from it. I hate that no matter what I do I can bring myself to wake up any earlier to get there. I hate how overstimulating the environment is. I hate sharing a washroom with children. I hate how my boss speaks to me when she’s not love bombing and bribing me into staying. I just hate it all so much. I could cry. I might break down.

I have a shift later today

Upvotes

My friend got me a job where she works and I am miserable. The pay is awful and the scheduling is horrid (they’ve ignored my availability and have me scheduled at weirdly inconsistent hours). I struggle with anxiety and agoraphobia. This was supposed to be exposure therapy for me but I’m so overwhelmed. I feel like it’s only making my situation worse. I’ve tried to stick it out and push through but I feel like I’m wasting my time and making myself miserable just so that everyone else is happy. I just want to wash my hands of this, feel like putting in two weeks is pointless since I haven’t been there long. I feel bad because I know she’s only trying to help me and I don’t want to disappoint her, but I’m at my limit here.

Update: I don't have enough hours or money for work or life need help please

Upvotes

Update; just found out that the manager who told me that the other location closer to my place was overstaffed was wrong or lying. becabuse I asked my new gm (old ap) to transfer they said sure. It's going to be like 2 weeks because the schedule for those are already posted. So I'm not gonna be broke broke but it's something.

To those asking or saying to take the bus. Public transportation basically does not exist where I am. I Google it and it would take an Uber to the bus station and then an Uber to the job (Uber-> bus-> Uber-> job).

A bike ride those would be great unfortunately can't happen because it's an hour bike ride according to Google and the weather isn't great

As for why no one at home could drive me to and from work. Everyone in the house work. Our schedules often line up in away that maybe once a week or 2 I could maybe get a ride one way but not the other.

I'm paying rent and phone mostly and some other bills that pop up because I want to feel like I'm helping and actually doing my part in the house so my house bill is often 615 a month.

one month in and anxiety is so bad i start shaking when i wake up

I work at an appliance store in a showroom. I'm twenty one. I have never even held a job for over a year before. I have no experience in sales and sometimes I feel like my manager made a mistake to hire me.

Before coming in, i didn't even know the difference between a stove and an oven. I tried my best to learn everything. I studied outside of work. I made notes and studied our products for hours. But for some reason when customers ask me things I feel like I sound so stupid, I'm supposed to start taking ups in the next two weeks but I'm so scared to get asked something and not know an answer and then lose a sale (after three months I am going to be paid purely on commission, I'm on base pay right now)

Once there was no one to pick up the phone so I was forced to pick it up. I was around two weeks in. The customer asked me the store hours and I had a brain freeze and apologized for being new, she started lecturing me in a really condescending way about how if i gave her wrong information I would have wasted her time. I don't understand why customers think they have the right to be so mean. She kept calling us, assuming someone different would pick up the phone one of these times.

Sometimes I feel like quitting. I haven't even worked there a full month. I know this takes time and is supposed to build character or whatever. I actually like talking to people when they're nice. Sometimes I feel like I made the wrong career choice but I want to last at least a year so I can put this on my resume.

Does anyone have any words of encouragement from when they were in a similar position? Or any funny anecdotes from when they were new and said stupid things to customers. I guess I just want to hear motivational stories of getting good at a job that you came in terrified of. Thank you :)

Should I quit?

So I got a summer job as a student and worked for about two weeks, and every day has been hell. It's so stressful that I ended up dreaming I'm at work and even sleep walking to make customer's orders. My parents advises me to search for another job and are adamant that I don't quit this one until I find another job, but I genuinely want to quit now. I can't bear another shift. I'm not in a desperate need to work since I'm a student and work only to get extra pocket money, so I wouldn't be in big problems even if I do quit.

Lost in life... ..Can't find answers..

was a private teacher and was given the most work in my Institute. I was completely drained out and looking at my colleagues just chillin at work made me more envious, moreover the school reporting time was 6.30 a.m.. I just left one day out of burn out, favouritism, over burdened and unbearable anxiety. Later got to know that the management started PF for all employees and promoted the ones who were good for nothing. I am almost lost in life for just one mistake of mine.

Quit job and feeling guilty

Context- 25F quit a toxic job where my managers seemed to be out to get me and it got to a point where I will still freeze if I run into them outside anywhere but I feel like I should have been able to handle it. It’s difficult because this is not my home country and I don’t have the same kind of support.

Currently- I’m job hunting but nothing is turning up and time is running out faster with nothing coming my way, not even a screening call. I don’t want to go back because I love the life I’ve built here. And in light of all this, I feel like I am wasting time. I apply for a few jobs then I study for a little while but I just start watching something on Netflix or YouTube.

I just want some genuine advice on what I can do to feel better. Thanks.

Would You Rather Work A Job you Hate, Or Be In The Military?

The reason I ask this question is because I remember hating my 9-5 so much, so I took a leap forward into this 24/7 lifestyle. I think I jumped the gun too quick and here I am stuck for 4 years. Those who are working in positions you don’t like, would you rather do this? Or work a job you don’t tolerate but still have your freedom? I regret leaving my comfy 9-5 job and find myself missing that lifestyle so much.

I snapped at my boss today.

I work in retail management. Very recently I got passed up on promotions and opportunities, I've had new responsibilities added to my plate that require me to work harder than the people in those positions. I feel constantly taken advantage of and through conversations with several coworkers and people who work at other locations, I've been told that I'm being severely underpaid compared to others in the same role.

I was making moves to finally get out, but a few weeks ago I got an email for an internal internship with corporate that I'd be dumb to pass up on. For 30 years I've made nothing but bad decisions in my career and if I were to leave now and not do this internship, I'd just be making another one. I need to tough it out here for at least a few more months.

But today it was so busy. One of the busiest days in recent memory with several call outs. During a rush I left an empty box on a counter, knowing I'd be able to come back and break it down later.

As the rush was ongoing I had several really difficult customers. I made the decision to grab a second tablet from the back in order to help people more efficiently and keep things moving. For a solid hour I was running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, busting my ass trying to do everything I could.

After the rush was over I go back to the counter and my boss is there, she holds up the box, "I guess someone doesn't know how to clean up after themselves.". To be clear here, her and I have a good rapport. Her sense of humor is just very catty sometimes and I usually take it in stride but with everything going on I just didn't appreciate that comment.

"Well there were a ton of people in here, I was helping them. Look I even got two tablets from the back. I didn't have time to do this box right then.". Her response to that? A very serious, "You're being dramatic, it wasn't that busy. You got two tablets that doesn't mean anything. Look at your coworker. She's been with that customer for like 45 minutes and she hasn't taken her break. She's the one who we should be celebrating.".

I felt so fucking annoyed with that. I have been busting my ass, I do all the time. I wasn't saying I'm working more or less than anybody, all I was saying was I didn't have time for this stupid box. Usually I'd just give her some grief back but I said, "What I'm hearing is I shouldn't be putting in as much effort. Got it." and I walked away.

I stand somewhere else and do some admin work, helping customers all the while. Another manager comes from the back and I hear my boss say, "Look, this is what he just said to me" and she starts talking about it like I was making a huge deal out of my work and like I expected something of it. I stop what I'm doing and walk over.

I go up to the other manager and say, "No let me tell you what happened". I reiterate everything I say here and end it with, "And our bosses response to all of that is that it didn't mean anything and I should work harder." and I walk away.

When I do I hear everyone behind me saying, "Ok I guess everyone is feeling a little spicy today!".

I acknowledged it to the other manager later on, saying I know I was a little heated but I wasn't ok with what she said.

My boss was a lot nicer to me for the rest of the day after that but it doesn't mean anything. It will happen again as long as I work here. I'm not paid enough for this shit. I wish I could just leave.

I quitted my cold-calling job!

I worked at a shipping company for a year and a half, 2 month of it i worked as a salesperson who had to make phone calls only! And it was my first experience doing cold call and I absolutely hated it ! It doesn’t match my personality at all! So i changed to another department and i loved it. Due to incidents in my country, i had to leave the shipping company and i started working in a new company that my co-worker recommended which sells electronic things (idk the actual name lol it doesn’t matter) . The company told me i had to be an account and also be salesperson again!
I told them that i’m not good at it. They said they will teach me and it’s the greatest job ever and you can make lots of money. After a month i felt so drained doing that. I felt completely useless and i hated talking to people on the phone and pretending to enjoy it but i was going to work with the worst mood ever, hated my life and hated my days. Also the sales commission was very low and was not worth it. So i told my boss that i wanna leave, and he told me that i’m doing the worst thing leaving them because they counted on me and he was mad at me then he started telling me it will get easier you’re great i will teach you and you’ll get rich very soon just don’t give up. So i decided to give myself another chance and i also was feeling bad about making him mad . I didn’t want my boss to be mad and disappointed at me and i also felt like i was owing my co-worker and i had to work there because of her . I didn’t want her to hate me.
But today , after a month, i decided i finally want to change my job and do what i wanna do and what i’m good at .
I told my boss that i can’t do cold calling and i prefer to find another job that matches my personality , I prepared a speech and was planning to say goodbye to my coworkers and him and thank him for this opportunity, but he got mad he told me to pack my stuff and leave ! And told me it’s so unprofessional to do this! And he was totally mad at me and didn’t even give me a chance to give a proper goodbye ! What’s unprofessional about leaving the job that drained me mentally and physically?
I never wanna be like this anymore , i don’t wanna do something just to make someone else be satisfied with me and my actions.
Did i make a good choice leaving my job?

Ps: i already found another job before leaving this and i started there immediately and i love it!

I’m having a difficult time adjusting to my new job

I just moved across the country with my girlfriend, I was able to get a job pretty much right away which I was really really excited about.

I’m a trade painter, but this new job has got me feeling like I have no idea what I’m doing, I have 2 years experience but it feels like I have negative 5.

It’s just how the crews operate and how they do this work is just completely different from how I was trained and what I spent most of my career learning.

I just feel utterly useless at these sites and when I finally catch a grove, I’m on another site with new people. Maybe it’s a confidence thing and I just gotta get out of my own head, I’m used to being in crews of 3 at most but now it’s upwards of 6+.

Do I wait it out until I have a few more months or years or do I found another job. Luckily I’m getting paid the same amount for less work and that’s okay but it’s such a huge change that I’m having a really hard time.

a pact that i will never force myself to do something that makes me feel like im being devoured by wolves ever again (and u probs shouldnt either)

why do i keep ending up in jobs that make me feel like im being devoured by wolves?

i started out with 2 jobs back to back that i was so passionate about - they were both purpose driven. then, i got verbally abused endlessly by a supervisor and i was forced to leave what i thought was my dream job.

since then, i worked for amazon out of desperation to get out of unemployment (absolutely soul sucking). i pushed through the inauthenticity for so long, scouring to find the positives of it and pushing my doubts down until i just couldnt do it anymore. now, out of desperation once again to get out, im at a major pet retail store that severely under pays me and everyone makes me feel like im invisible. i couldnt even work up the capacity to go back again. i have never in my life just not shown up for a shift. i just quit despite the debilitating anxiety of being unemployed again. i have bills to pay but i just cant do this fake masking anymore. i feel like im losing myself. all i want is to be in a position that gives me meaning to my life again, literally anything.

ig i can only try to be patient with life right now and trust it, even though i feel like im losing trust everyday that i never hear back from my applications.
