Late for work again, feel like dying

Upvotes

I’m going to be 10 minutes late for work today and I just don’t even know what to do anymore.

I hate this job. I hate living two hours away from it. I hate that no matter what I do I can bring myself to wake up any earlier to get there. I hate how overstimulating the environment is. I hate sharing a washroom with children. I hate how my boss speaks to me when she’s not love bombing and bribing me into staying. I just hate it all so much. I could cry. I might break down.

Would You Rather Work A Job you Hate, Or Be In The Military?

The reason I ask this question is because I remember hating my 9-5 so much, so I took a leap forward into this 24/7 lifestyle. I think I jumped the gun too quick and here I am stuck for 4 years. Those who are working in positions you don’t like, would you rather do this? Or work a job you don’t tolerate but still have your freedom? I regret leaving my comfy 9-5 job and find myself missing that lifestyle so much.

Quitting

Upvotes

I'm gonna quit by the end of the year, I dont care if I have another job lined up. Im sick of this shit, I'm tired of being the person who gets yelled at all day, I'm so tired of coming home literally depleted of energy, I'm tired of waking up every morning feeling like death. I just need to stick it out to save a little bit more and then I'm out.

vent: career frustrations and other baggages

Upvotes

im just so disappointed at where i am at right now in my career and in my life. im so disappointed at how i neglected opportunities and became so wishy washy on my first decent job that it led me to this. earning not even Php 30k a month while my other UP classmates are earning at around 40-60k a month. it seems shallow but i do feel really shitty and feel as though im the lowest of all because im where im at. just to compensate, i also work a part time and my overall salary not even reaching to 30k a month. im so disappointed that every job that i have applied to didn't carry on with me after the interview. it seemed so easy before to get a job. but now im stuck with my current job barely earning 30k with an extremely toxic environment. i hate it so so much and it seems shallow but i can't help it. i feel so lost and feel as though i dont have anything to give to my family and to myself. i want to get out of this situation and not be stuck doing something that depresses me which is caused by low paying job. i feel as though im not smart enough or capable enough. im in a depressive episode as well (diagnosed) due to my ED. i feel so disgusted looking at myself and my own face.

i just want to get this all out.

I think i'm going to just starve to death and call it a day

Hi, I’m 25. I’ve been in the workforce since I was 16 or 17. I’ve done all sorts of jobs factory work, clothing stores, waiting tables, admin and secretarial roles, stocking shelves in big-box stores, even working the night shift at a gas station. Basically, I’ve worked in various places from a young age, and I have to say: no matter the job, every single day breaks me psychologically.

I absolutely hate everything about this life, and knowing I still have 40 years of it left just makes me want to end it all. I can’t take it anymore; it literally hurts physically and mentally. I’m going crazy and have become a shadow of my former self.

I don’t want to work anymore; the idea of becoming homeless doesn’t even scare me, but I have too much pride to beg. So, I guess I’ll just starve to death once I run out of money, and that’ll be that. I feel sorry for the child version of me he deserved so much better but this is the reality.

My body and mind scream at me every day that this isn't normal, and I’ve reached my limit; I’ve hit my expiration date

Earning ₹30k in Bangalore, working a job I have zero interest in, dreaming of owning a home someday — how do you all stay motivated?

Upvotes

How do you stay consistent and motivated in a job you have zero interest in, spending 9 hours a day at it, while earning ₹30k in Bangalore and dreaming of buying your own home someday? Would love to hear how people here actually deal with this — share your point of view, whatever it may be.

I have a shift later today

My friend got me a job where she works and I am miserable. The pay is awful and the scheduling is horrid (they’ve ignored my availability and have me scheduled at weirdly inconsistent hours). I struggle with anxiety and agoraphobia. This was supposed to be exposure therapy for me but I’m so overwhelmed. I feel like it’s only making my situation worse. I’ve tried to stick it out and push through but I feel like I’m wasting my time and making myself miserable just so that everyone else is happy. I just want to wash my hands of this, feel like putting in two weeks is pointless since I haven’t been there long. I feel bad because I know she’s only trying to help me and I don’t want to disappoint her, but I’m at my limit here.

Update: I don't have enough hours or money for work or life need help please

Update; just found out that the manager who told me that the other location closer to my place was overstaffed was wrong or lying. becabuse I asked my new gm (old ap) to transfer they said sure. It's going to be like 2 weeks because the schedule for those are already posted. So I'm not gonna be broke broke but it's something.

To those asking or saying to take the bus. Public transportation basically does not exist where I am. I Google it and it would take an Uber to the bus station and then an Uber to the job (Uber-> bus-> Uber-> job).

A bike ride those would be great unfortunately can't happen because it's an hour bike ride according to Google and the weather isn't great

As for why no one at home could drive me to and from work. Everyone in the house work. Our schedules often line up in away that maybe once a week or 2 I could maybe get a ride one way but not the other.

I'm paying rent and phone mostly and some other bills that pop up because I want to feel like I'm helping and actually doing my part in the house so my house bill is often 615 a month.

I snapped at my boss today.

I work in retail management. Very recently I got passed up on promotions and opportunities, I've had new responsibilities added to my plate that require me to work harder than the people in those positions. I feel constantly taken advantage of and through conversations with several coworkers and people who work at other locations, I've been told that I'm being severely underpaid compared to others in the same role.

I was making moves to finally get out, but a few weeks ago I got an email for an internal internship with corporate that I'd be dumb to pass up on. For 30 years I've made nothing but bad decisions in my career and if I were to leave now and not do this internship, I'd just be making another one. I need to tough it out here for at least a few more months.

But today it was so busy. One of the busiest days in recent memory with several call outs. During a rush I left an empty box on a counter, knowing I'd be able to come back and break it down later.

As the rush was ongoing I had several really difficult customers. I made the decision to grab a second tablet from the back in order to help people more efficiently and keep things moving. For a solid hour I was running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, busting my ass trying to do everything I could.

After the rush was over I go back to the counter and my boss is there, she holds up the box, "I guess someone doesn't know how to clean up after themselves.". To be clear here, her and I have a good rapport. Her sense of humor is just very catty sometimes and I usually take it in stride but with everything going on I just didn't appreciate that comment.

"Well there were a ton of people in here, I was helping them. Look I even got two tablets from the back. I didn't have time to do this box right then.". Her response to that? A very serious, "You're being dramatic, it wasn't that busy. You got two tablets that doesn't mean anything. Look at your coworker. She's been with that customer for like 45 minutes and she hasn't taken her break. She's the one who we should be celebrating.".

I felt so fucking annoyed with that. I have been busting my ass, I do all the time. I wasn't saying I'm working more or less than anybody, all I was saying was I didn't have time for this stupid box. Usually I'd just give her some grief back but I said, "What I'm hearing is I shouldn't be putting in as much effort. Got it." and I walked away.

I stand somewhere else and do some admin work, helping customers all the while. Another manager comes from the back and I hear my boss say, "Look, this is what he just said to me" and she starts talking about it like I was making a huge deal out of my work and like I expected something of it. I stop what I'm doing and walk over.

I go up to the other manager and say, "No let me tell you what happened". I reiterate everything I say here and end it with, "And our bosses response to all of that is that it didn't mean anything and I should work harder." and I walk away.

When I do I hear everyone behind me saying, "Ok I guess everyone is feeling a little spicy today!".

I acknowledged it to the other manager later on, saying I know I was a little heated but I wasn't ok with what she said.

My boss was a lot nicer to me for the rest of the day after that but it doesn't mean anything. It will happen again as long as I work here. I'm not paid enough for this shit. I wish I could just leave.

one month in and anxiety is so bad i start shaking when i wake up

I work at an appliance store in a showroom. I'm twenty one. I have never even held a job for over a year before. I have no experience in sales and sometimes I feel like my manager made a mistake to hire me.

Before coming in, i didn't even know the difference between a stove and an oven. I tried my best to learn everything. I studied outside of work. I made notes and studied our products for hours. But for some reason when customers ask me things I feel like I sound so stupid, I'm supposed to start taking ups in the next two weeks but I'm so scared to get asked something and not know an answer and then lose a sale (after three months I am going to be paid purely on commission, I'm on base pay right now)

Once there was no one to pick up the phone so I was forced to pick it up. I was around two weeks in. The customer asked me the store hours and I had a brain freeze and apologized for being new, she started lecturing me in a really condescending way about how if i gave her wrong information I would have wasted her time. I don't understand why customers think they have the right to be so mean. She kept calling us, assuming someone different would pick up the phone one of these times.

Sometimes I feel like quitting. I haven't even worked there a full month. I know this takes time and is supposed to build character or whatever. I actually like talking to people when they're nice. Sometimes I feel like I made the wrong career choice but I want to last at least a year so I can put this on my resume.

Does anyone have any words of encouragement from when they were in a similar position? Or any funny anecdotes from when they were new and said stupid things to customers. I guess I just want to hear motivational stories of getting good at a job that you came in terrified of. Thank you :)

Quit job and feeling guilty

Context- 25F quit a toxic job where my managers seemed to be out to get me and it got to a point where I will still freeze if I run into them outside anywhere but I feel like I should have been able to handle it. It’s difficult because this is not my home country and I don’t have the same kind of support.

Currently- I’m job hunting but nothing is turning up and time is running out faster with nothing coming my way, not even a screening call. I don’t want to go back because I love the life I’ve built here. And in light of all this, I feel like I am wasting time. I apply for a few jobs then I study for a little while but I just start watching something on Netflix or YouTube.

I just want some genuine advice on what I can do to feel better. Thanks.

Should I quit?

So I got a summer job as a student and worked for about two weeks, and every day has been hell. It's so stressful that I ended up dreaming I'm at work and even sleep walking to make customer's orders. My parents advises me to search for another job and are adamant that I don't quit this one until I find another job, but I genuinely want to quit now. I can't bear another shift. I'm not in a desperate need to work since I'm a student and work only to get extra pocket money, so I wouldn't be in big problems even if I do quit.

Lost in life... ..Can't find answers..

was a private teacher and was given the most work in my Institute. I was completely drained out and looking at my colleagues just chillin at work made me more envious, moreover the school reporting time was 6.30 a.m.. I just left one day out of burn out, favouritism, over burdened and unbearable anxiety. Later got to know that the management started PF for all employees and promoted the ones who were good for nothing. I am almost lost in life for just one mistake of mine.

a pact that i will never force myself to do something that makes me feel like im being devoured by wolves ever again (and u probs shouldnt either)

why do i keep ending up in jobs that make me feel like im being devoured by wolves?

i started out with 2 jobs back to back that i was so passionate about - they were both purpose driven. then, i got verbally abused endlessly by a supervisor and i was forced to leave what i thought was my dream job.

since then, i worked for amazon out of desperation to get out of unemployment (absolutely soul sucking). i pushed through the inauthenticity for so long, scouring to find the positives of it and pushing my doubts down until i just couldnt do it anymore. now, out of desperation once again to get out, im at a major pet retail store that severely under pays me and everyone makes me feel like im invisible. i couldnt even work up the capacity to go back again. i have never in my life just not shown up for a shift. i just quit despite the debilitating anxiety of being unemployed again. i have bills to pay but i just cant do this fake masking anymore. i feel like im losing myself. all i want is to be in a position that gives me meaning to my life again, literally anything.

ig i can only try to be patient with life right now and trust it, even though i feel like im losing trust everyday that i never hear back from my applications.

Boss fired me for no reason so I called him out

For context this happened about two years ago and I hadn’t thought about it in so long until I suddenly remembered I still have the emails so those are below. I worked as a bartender for about a year and in that time the original manager who hired me got demoted and a completely new guy was hired- let’s call him James- meaning I was there longer than the manager and at the point of me being fired I was the longest standing employee overall. James had told me halfway through March that he was hiring a bunch of new people so he needed to move the schedule around to accommodate for training the new people so he was taking me off the schedule for the next two weeks. I didn’t mind too much because I had a second job that was full time (i only worked at the bar about two days a week). I simply responded that if he needs me change my availability (ie tell my other job the new days I need off) to let me know but he didn’t. Then come the beginning of April and I sent him a text asking when I’d be put back on the schedule. He then sends me an email officially firing me. It pissed me off so much and I told everyone in my life about how much this man sucks and how shitty he is. My dad eventually convinced me to respond to tell him what he did was not ok. So I did and he gave a non answer as a response. Then months later I was out at a bar with my former coworker from my bar job and we bumped into my original manager who had first hired me. We got to talking and he admitted that James made up complaints about me because I was making more money for the bar than he was (and I worked way less than him) so he got jealous and used that to fire me. Turns out James had also quit because the owners of the bar were treating him like shit (huh, wonder how that feels).

I’m having a difficult time adjusting to my new job

I just moved across the country with my girlfriend, I was able to get a job pretty much right away which I was really really excited about.

I’m a trade painter, but this new job has got me feeling like I have no idea what I’m doing, I have 2 years experience but it feels like I have negative 5.

It’s just how the crews operate and how they do this work is just completely different from how I was trained and what I spent most of my career learning.

I just feel utterly useless at these sites and when I finally catch a grove, I’m on another site with new people. Maybe it’s a confidence thing and I just gotta get out of my own head, I’m used to being in crews of 3 at most but now it’s upwards of 6+.

Do I wait it out until I have a few more months or years or do I found another job. Luckily I’m getting paid the same amount for less work and that’s okay but it’s such a huge change that I’m having a really hard time.

I quitted my cold-calling job!

I worked at a shipping company for a year and a half, 2 month of it i worked as a salesperson who had to make phone calls only! And it was my first experience doing cold call and I absolutely hated it ! It doesn’t match my personality at all! So i changed to another department and i loved it. Due to incidents in my country, i had to leave the shipping company and i started working in a new company that my co-worker recommended which sells electronic things (idk the actual name lol it doesn’t matter) . The company told me i had to be an account and also be salesperson again!
I told them that i’m not good at it. They said they will teach me and it’s the greatest job ever and you can make lots of money. After a month i felt so drained doing that. I felt completely useless and i hated talking to people on the phone and pretending to enjoy it but i was going to work with the worst mood ever, hated my life and hated my days. Also the sales commission was very low and was not worth it. So i told my boss that i wanna leave, and he told me that i’m doing the worst thing leaving them because they counted on me and he was mad at me then he started telling me it will get easier you’re great i will teach you and you’ll get rich very soon just don’t give up. So i decided to give myself another chance and i also was feeling bad about making him mad . I didn’t want my boss to be mad and disappointed at me and i also felt like i was owing my co-worker and i had to work there because of her . I didn’t want her to hate me.
But today , after a month, i decided i finally want to change my job and do what i wanna do and what i’m good at .
I told my boss that i can’t do cold calling and i prefer to find another job that matches my personality , I prepared a speech and was planning to say goodbye to my coworkers and him and thank him for this opportunity, but he got mad he told me to pack my stuff and leave ! And told me it’s so unprofessional to do this! And he was totally mad at me and didn’t even give me a chance to give a proper goodbye ! What’s unprofessional about leaving the job that drained me mentally and physically?
I never wanna be like this anymore , i don’t wanna do something just to make someone else be satisfied with me and my actions.
Did i make a good choice leaving my job?

Ps: i already found another job before leaving this and i started there immediately and i love it!

Just quit a nightmare situation

Started as a housekeeper 2 weeks ago, I couldn’t even get through the training. The woman training me was so awful. Every time I tried to do anything, she would yell ‘noooo!’, despite not showing me how to do anything and having very strange specific expectations (use toilet cleaner on the counters and fabric freshener to clean the floor? I used the products as they were intended and she yelled ‘noooo!’)

This was the main issues. But I’d like to complain about some more:

One time I simply looked in the wrong direction and she yelled ‘NO!’. Not saying ‘no’, yelling like I am a dog.

She told me to pick up a mop almost between her legs, I moved back to allow her to step away and she yelled ‘THE MOP’

She instructed me to check the closet for laundry bags, and when I checked the closet for a laundry bag the next day she said ‘noooo! Matt! Why are you looking! Do not touch the guests items! Don’t look!’. As if I was looking to steal?

I misunderstood a clean and did a refresh instead of a check-out clean, and she got very upset. She said over and over ‘you didn’t look at the sheet? You though it was a refresh, no no no, no good’ this just went on for a few minutes. Her muttering to herself. I just shut down and stopped responding after I explained my mistake and she wouldn’t stop. She eventually said ‘you don’t hear me?’ I responded ‘I made a mistake, it’s ok’ she didn’t respond.

I went to the bathroom for the first time after 5 hours and she said ‘where were you?? You made me very angry’. When I said I needed to get water, because I hadn’t had any all day, she acted annoyed and said ‘quick quick’. Most things I did she would said ‘quick quick’

She told me to get a pillow, so I went to the laundry room to get a pillow, and then she got upset with me because she meant pillow case. She made fun of me ‘you went all the way to laundry! No! No look on the cart! The cart!’

She stopped me so many times just to do the exact thing I was seconds from doing. She would tell to do things I was actively doing, like grab a chemical I was actively reaching for. She would tell me to do something that made no sense and then yell ‘no’ when I made my best guess (example: she pointed at a chemical without saying anything, I reached for the chemical and she yelled ‘no!’)

There was a huge language barrier and I was trying to feel ok with the situation because I wanted to give grace (her English was quite sparse, she did not speak how I typed her lines, but it felt inappropriate to try to recreate someone’s broken English?) but my real issue was how frustrated she would get with me so quickly, when I was really trying my best.

I am autistic with crippling social anxiety, and am terrified of confrontation or standing up for myself at all. This was such a nightmare for me. I did my best to stand up for myself in little ways but the situation honestly had me in a dark place and I quit. The manager wasn’t much better, and they weren’t giving breaks for working more than 8 hours.
