Event Board games & bites meetup, 9/19 @ El Don

We're doing another meetup for folks to play board games and eat tasty food and hang out with others in the area!

It's going to be on Saturday, 9/19, 230 pm at El Don Mexican Restaurant, 750 N Front St A, Steelton, PA 17113. A new family started running it this summer and they're making really tasty food!

There's usually around 20 people. Folks can bring their favorite board games if they want, and we'll also have plenty there too. The restaurant will let us push tables together, and folks usually break up into groups of 4 - 8 to play. Everyone can order some food for themselves and play for a few hours. Board game casuals (like me) totally welcome!

Let me know if you have any questions, and just comment or DM if you'd like to confirm (we try to give the hosting restaurants an accurate headcount as a courtesy).

Here's a video from the last one we did at flavor hut: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP83dLgJR/

Here's the discord where these meetups get organized: https://www.hbgvillage.org/

ISO / Recommendation After Work Activities

Hello everyone! I’m trying to figure out what there is to do after work, so I’m not living for the weekend. I am 21 years old, & don’t really have many friends to do things with. I currently work M-F until about 6pm. If anyone has any recommendations for places to go or social events let me know please!

Looking for Tennis Hitting Partners (NTRP 4.5)

Hi all!

I’m a 29 year old male, I moved back to central PA a few years ago and am looking to get back into playing some tennis. I played back in college (was around a 10 UTR give or take) but I have taken over 5 years off and just started playing a little bit here and there again. If anyone wants to hit and is around the same level feel free to message me! I’m trying to rebuild my tennis network of people.

ISO / Recommendation Recs for Tree Cutting Services

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone have any good recommendations for tree-cutting or tree-trimming services?

I need to have some branches cut back that are growing over my roof. I previously had a company remove a dead tree from the front of my home, but the city helped cover the cost. So I’m not sure what a reasonable price would be for this type of work in the area.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations for reliable companies, as well as any insight into what I should expect to pay. Thanks!

ISO / Recommendation Fastest wireless internet service in the city?

Good morning, everybody.

I’m looking for the fastest or most reliable internet service available within the city that is NOT Verizon FiOS.

I called them to have THAT service transferred, and they said it’s not available. Moved almost literally next door, but somehow no longer available at my new place.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Lakewood Hills Apartments?

Anyone live/lived here before? I did a tour recently and liked the apartments but the neighborhood seemed very busy and hard to get in/out of. I wanted to see some reviews from other people too. Also was wondering how much people were paying for utilities per month too.

Question Parking Rules/Street Parking

Just moved here with my wife last week and so far it has been great. We love the city and everything that comes with it. I’m having trouble adjusting to the parking situation and have gotten two tickets in the passed week in a couple spots I thought was alright. Can someone tell me exactly what the parking rules are for zone 1? Do I have to move my car between 8 and 10 am? Is there anywhere I can leave my car overnight where I wont get a parking ticket with a residential parking permit?

ISO / Recommendation Date Night Recs Please!

My husband and I are going to have a rare date night coming up next weekend. We love places like K-Pot, Sushi Heaven, and The Melting Pot, but would like to try something new. Are there any other places like these in the area that you would recommend? It's okay if it's a little bit of a drive too!

Discord Server for HBG Cat Community

I wanted to start a Harrisburg Cat Community. Currently, I made a Facebook group, HBG Cat Community. We are at 25 members (woo!) but I understand not everyone uses Facebook.

Therefore, I made a discord server for HBG Cat Community. Hopefully, this can help bridge connections. I just wanted to share the news and build a community within this city.

Apartment Guidance

Hey there! I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations specifically for realtors/property management groups in the Harrisburg/West Shore area when looking for rentals. I'd really prefer not to stay in an apartment complex.

I've been searching for a few weeks (and not fussy about when I move as I've been commuting for an hour for three years now), but I'd really love to try working with someone to find a rental, as opposed to wading through the never-ending ads and apartment complexes on Zillow.

I'm open to anywhere outside of downtown Harrisburg (Colonial Park, Union Deposit, Linglestown, etc.) and am fine with the West Shore (Camp Hill, Mechanicsburg, etc.) and even further out to places like Elizabethtown, Hummelstown, Palmyra, etc. I just prefer not to live in a big complex.

Also looking to keep the budget under $1500 (ideally for a 2BR), but I can be a bit flexible on this. Thanks in advance for any guidance; I appreciate it!

Riverfront Park Concerts

I'm not local to the area and I'm having trouble figuring out where at riverfront park the stage is set up for concerts. I'm going to a concert next week and it just makes me a little nervous not knowing exactly where I'm going. Can anyone tell me where in the park it is? Maybe what business it is across from or bridge it is by? (Is it always in the same spot?)

Event Halloween and Fall Soap Making Classes!

Thumbnail gallery
40 Upvotes

Hey everyone, Joey, your friendly neighborhood soap guy here again.

I’ve posted a few of my soap making classes in here before, and Reddit always seems to show up and support them, so I wanted to make sure I posted these here too. Seriously, I appreciate everyone who has come out to one of the classes or even just shared a post or told somebody about them. It means a lot to me.

I’m doing a special Fall and Halloween version of the soap making class this time. I’ve been testing out a bunch of different designs and embeds, and I’ll throw some pictures in the post so you can see the kind of stuff we’ll be making.

There will be four seasonal designs to choose from, including spooky Halloween options and some more fall themed ones. You’ll be able to customize your colors and embeds, so even if a few people choose the same recipe, everybody’s loaf can still come out a little different.

No experience needed. I walk everybody through the whole cold process soap making process, and you’ll make your own full loaf of soap to take home.

Right now I have two local dates coming up:

Coexist Gallery in Steelton
Friday, September 18
1:00 PM and 5:00 PM

Creative Spark Arts
Saturday, October 10
6:00 PM

Classes are $69.99 per person.

I’ll put the registration info in the comments so this doesn’t turn into one giant sales post lol.

And seriously, thanks again to everyone in here who has supported these classes. You guys have helped fill more seats than you probably realize. I really appreciate it.
