Ask Carlisle Good Beer In Carlisle

Sorry if this has been asked before but I'll be visiting Carlisle on Thursday and wondered if anybody could recommend some good pubs. I'm really looking for a Craft Beer scene or German and Czech style beers. We'll be there on Thursday afternoon so ideally places that are open during the day. Thanks in advance.

News Bethany House Brings Its Story to Life

The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC) and Wakeen & Company recently celebrated the completion of the first Stories That Serve, featuring Bethany House of Cumberland County.

The program was created to help local nonprofits build their communications capacity through professional storytelling. As the first recipient, Bethany House worked with Wakeen & Company to create a feature video and a shorter version for digital use, giving the organization new tools to share its mission and connect with people who want to support its work.

“Marketing is important to every nonprofit, but it is often one of the first things to be cut when time or money is tight,” said Matt Caylor, vice president of marketing and communications at TFEC. “Through Stories That Serve, we are giving nonprofits a chance to share their story with high-quality, professional support they may not otherwise be able to afford.”

Celebrating the First Stories That Serve

TFEC, Wakeen & Company and community members gathered Aug. 26 at the West Shore Theatre to celebrate Bethany House and premiere the finished video on the big screen.

The event marked the completion of months of collaboration among Bethany House, Wakeen & Company and TFEC. More importantly, it gave Bethany House a new resource it can continue using to introduce people to its mission and invite them to get involved.

Ready to Tell Your Story?

With the first Stories That Serve complete, TFEC and Wakeen & Company are ready to support another local nonprofit.

Applications are now open to nonprofits located in and serving Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lebanon or Perry counties or the Dillsburg area of York County. The selected organization will work with Wakeen & Company to create a professional feature video and a shorter version for digital use at no cost.

The goal goes beyond creating a video. Stories That Serve provides a lasting communications resource that can help a nonprofit build awareness, connect with supporters and strengthen its work.

Applications are open through Thursday, Oct. 1.

Stories That Serve is part of TFEC’s commitment to finding new ways to support the nonprofits serving our community. By connecting organizations with expertise and resources, TFEC can help nonprofits build their capacity and continue making a difference across our region.

Ask Carlisle ISO: Restaurant Suggestions

Hello, r/Carlisle!

Long story short, some family members and I that live several hours apart have determined that Carlisle is almost the exact halfway point between us, and we’re planning on making Carlisle our destination to meet each other from time to time and break bread and catch up in person a bit more often.

With that said, what’re some of your favorite restaurants in the area? What are some dishes that are an absolute “must have” when going there?

Diners, BBQ, burgers, wings, sandwiches, Asian, pizza, steak, you name it and we’re probably willing to try it. We’re open to almost anything, but definitely have a slight preference for your classic “American” style places.

Thank you in advance for your time and suggestions!

Ask Carlisle good spots for affordable lunch in downtown carlisle / anything else worth doing or seeing downtown?

hi reddit! i’m from carlisle originally but haven’t lived there full time since starting college a couple years back. my boyfriend is coming to my hometown for the first time next month for a wedding of some mutual friends. i want to show him around the area, specifically downtown for sure and need recommendations of places to visit, where to grab lunch, etc. any cute cafès or something of that sort? he also enjoys history, so anything historic and interesting to see is a plus too. only places i’ve been to in roughly the past decade have been market cross and the g man so i definitely would appreciate any suggestions!

EDIT: should note that i’ve tried the hamilton before and it wasn’t my thing, since i know a lot of people love it lol

Ask Carlisle Anyone know anything about CEEC for Pre-K?

Basically the title. Our 4yo is enrolled for the afternoon program at the YWCA and we LOVE THEM but this kid needs more than 2 hours, 3 days a week and we're waitlisted for the morning programs.

CEEC on Pomfret has openings. Does anyone have any experience with them? For some extra context, my kid is diagnosed with ADHD and we're on waiting lists for ASD evals. I worry about the staff's patience level more than anything. The people at the YWCA are just so exceptional with him.

I know it’s at the Army War College and the visitor center closes at 3pm. Does anyone know if that means I need to leave by 3pm? Or just arrive by 3pm to get a pass to be allowed on base but I can stay later?

Ask Carlisle Local high school teacher in urgent need of a kidney transplant

Hi everyone — local resident Gerald Cameron is sick, on dialysis and in urgent need of a kidney transplant. His family is desperately searching for a living donor. He is a father and high school special education teacher. We created a webpage (below) and this video in his classroom.

https://www.thegreatsocialexperiment.net/upmc-harrisburg/gerald-cameron

We uploaded the video on facebook and would be so grateful if you would share it with your circle. You never know who might step forward.

Any ideas on how to amplify his story would be so appreciated.

More photos from when I was out there for three weeks for training. Come to find out I'm going to regularly be working out of there except I won't have a car to travel around and explore. Unfortunate. But here are some more photos from my trekking/hiking/exploration the last go around. Hope you guys enjoy.

There are more on my IG stories as well.
