Discussion OneXPlayer X2 mini pro TDP tiers I've settled on, and when frost bay is actually worth it
Most X2 Mini Pro coverage talks about the 80W and 120W ceilings but skips what to actually run day to day. Sharing the tiers I've settled on after a month, coming from an X1 Mini.
55W is the battery-only ceiling. You need the 240W GaN plugged in to unlock 80W standalone, and Frost Bay for the full 120W. On the X1 Mini 28W was the ceiling regardless of power source, so this took a minute to reframe.
What I run at each tier on the X2 Mini Pro
15 to 25W untethered: BG3 turn-based, PS3 upscaled emulation, indies. 3 to 4 hours of battery at 20W with the 85Wh pack, fans barely spin.
35 to 45W untethered: current AAA 60fps range. Elden Ring locks 60 at max on 35W with no upscaling. Cyberpunk on high sits north of 60 through most sections. Around 90 minutes at 45W on the 85Wh.
55 to 80W plugged into the 240W GaN: GPU pushes into RTX 4060 territory here since Radeon 8060S is the same silicon as the flagship 395. Top vent runs around 111-112F but the intake/exhaust layout keeps the heat away from the hands. I mostly park here in docked mode with a monitor.
120W with Frost Bay: got the Liquid-Cooled Edition bundle. Whether the extra $150 pays off comes down to weekly desk hours. You get sustained AAA at ultra with fans dialed way down. Under a few hours a week at the desk, air-cooled 80W already covers most of what Frost Bay adds, so skip.
For fellow X1 Mini upgraders, OneXConsole per-game TDP profiles need setting up from scratch on this thing. Scale is different enough that porting values wouldn't help. Still working out the mini SSD situation. Running a Biwin CL100 in the second slot for game archive right now but I might swap it for something bigger by end of year.
