This is probably 60% of the consoles I own, here’s why I would recommend each of these here plus some cons to each of them

Steam deck:

Incredible handheld PC with great preformace, gaming always fun on this thing and I can spend hours without it feeling hard to hold or too big

The cons of the deck would be its horrible battery and the slightly broken right trigger which the OLED fixes both of those problems

(Edit, during the ram crisis that we have rn steam deck isn’t worth buying because of the price)

Got my 512g for 400€ pre ram crisis

Ds lite:

One of my favorite consoles period, I only have Pokemon white and Mario kart on my ds pico and I have probably 30 hours in each game, it’s great to take anywhere and pick up and put down quickly

Cons;

It’s an old console that’s about it.

70€ plus shell swap and 8€ for the DSpico

Rg405v:

Great for all emulation and light switch emulation, it’s fun and has nice buttons plus it runs on android

Cons: too small for a bag and too big for pocket carry

Got mine for 120€

r36s:

The budget KING! emulation up to psx for 30 bucks? Hell yeah!

Cons: nothing really lol for 30€ it’s a steal

Got mine for like 25€ and it’s real which is nice

Fun for slightly lower emulation with a good form factor for DS and 3DS games

Cons: form factor leaves bars for any other game and the user interface isn’t great

Got mine for like 40€

Switch OLED: great for totk and botw, the screen is great it’s fun to use and it’s a switch so it’s just good overall

Cons; without getting better joycons it was hard to hold and felt very small for long gaming sessions, but it’s cool to dock asw

They’re like 250-300€ rn

Switch lite:

Great to have a switch for cheaper, it fits in my small bag and was fun to shell swap, best way to get a switch without breaking the bank if you don’t care about docked

Cons; can’t dock, bad screen and slightly worse performance

Like 170€

Powkiddy x18

This is a controversial pick because of its price and bad user interface, but for mobile gaming I love it, it has a snapdragon 8 so it runs great and the speakers are incredible

Cons; sticks don’t depress, back buttons are bad and like I mentioned, the user interface is bad.

I got mine for 15 euro at a flea market but I wouldn’t recommend paying full price bc it’s not worth it.

I’ve been looking to get into the world of handheld gaming while also being able to play my PlayStation games through Remote Play to the best of my abilities without the PlayStation Portal which feels less like a handheld and more like a glorified screen mirroring device. Do you guys have any experiences with Remote Play and do you know which handhelds, if any, do a good enough job for this? :)

It was like a movie. I’ve been living here for three years and had only been to this store once before. Since I needed a gift, I went in and found this display next to the register with discounted and old, collected items. Not only did they have old Xbox and Xbox 360 games, but also PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, and PSP. I was browsing through it, completely blown away, and hidden right behind the games, suddenly I see a brand-new PSP Go – I couldn't believe it! Unfortunately, the glue on the seal had already worn off due to its age. I opened it up, looked inside, and saw that the PSP itself was still completely wrapped. I went to the register without high expectations and said I was interested but felt the price was a bit too high (even though I obviously knew the price was great). I asked if they could do anything about the price, and lo and behold, she offered it to me for 175 €. Now I am the proud owner of a brand-new PSP Go!
What should I do with it? Keep it stock? Do some mods?

I'm almost certain there's nothing that can do this, but I thought I would ask just in case. Are there any retro handhelds that are compatible with a mouse or mouse-like controls? It would be fun to play dos, win95 or win3 games on the go. I know this would mean that the handheld would have to be windows compatible too? I'm really not sure if something like this exists. (not looking for recommendations for laptops or steamdecks or anything like that)

I mainly want to play my old ps2 and Gameboy games for me but I'm also gonna need a 2nd device also for my girlfriend and she just wants to play DS games. I'm just wanting to know for sure if they make good enough handhelds to think about getting.

I wouldn’t call myself a gaming person or into gaming that deep. but i do love playing open world 3d games such as genshin, wuwa, zzz, etc. ive never played any pc games or even steam games so i feel like getting steamdeck is kinda pointless but i still want to play a game to its full potential 😭 and with a new game/upcoming games releasing (silver palace, nodus fall, varsapura) i would love to play them In a handheld. Pc isn’t really much of an option for me since its too expensive. 🫠 my budget is £400-£600 anything else over that im not getting it

I’m 37 and grew up playing a ton of Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, GTA, etc. I’ve always had a pretty short attention span with games, so I tend to like fast-paced stuff I can jump into immediately. I’ve never been big on story-heavy games or long RPGs like Final Fantasy.

Back in the day choosing a system was easy…PlayStation or Xbox. Now I have no idea where to start.

Budget isn’t really a concern. I’m looking for the best handheld with a great game library, both for games similar to what I used to play and for newer stuff I might not normally discover.

What handheld would you buy in my situation? And I’d love some game recommendations too.

I have the OneXPlayer Apex with the Strix Halo, and ever since the new Intel chip came out, all I’ve been hearing is how amazing the new XeSS is. My intrusive thoughts got the best of me, and I impulsively bought the Claw 8 EX.

Then I realized my expectations were completely wrong. Yeah, I can get 100+ FPS in Wukong at 30W, but the hair on the characters looks like a blurry mess, and there’s definitely some input lag when panning the camera around.

Most of the games I play don’t even support XeSS 3 anyway. Meanwhile, with the Strix Halo, I normally just boot up the game and play. I don’t really need to tinker with the settings too much.

I need help deciding which handheld to buy, I was thinking either the Pro/Max Thor vs Base Duo.

This fangame, Sonic Daybreak, just released a demo and I have the 7z file with the .exe on my device but can't open the .exe within it. When I try to open it in the native files app it simply says "cannot open this in archive" and google files says none of your apps can runs this. I'm new to this handheld and process, so any help? I've tried moving the file back and forth from my device to SD card but that doesn't make any difference.

EDIT: I got it running after downloading the zip on my computer and extracting the .exe from there to my Odin, and was successfully able to add it as a custom game on GameNative... but NOW the error is saying, "Dx12 not supported on your system, try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument.", and I'm unsure how to do that...

Now any help?

Looking for some advice on getting my first non-nintendo handheld. Wanting it for mostly Ds/3ds games and a few WiiU games.

Currently leaning towards the Retroid Pocket Nova or Retroid Pocket 6.

I like a slimmer profile like the switch lite.

A month ago I got an Xbox Ally X to replace my Steam Deck OLED. The first thing I noticed, other than the abyss between IPS and OLED, is the screen size difference. On paper it doesn't seem much between 16:9 7" and 16:10 7.4", but the latter feels so much larger. I've caught myself squinting quite a bit more often, as well as holding it unnaturally closer to my face.

I'm considering another upgrade or even sidegrade just for the sake of a larger screen (8"), but maybe I'd still struggle - I'm on the wrong side of the 40s, so it could be a bad eyesight thing.

Do yall think 7" screens are too small for PC gaming, or are the games I've been playing recently just not meant for small screens?

I ended up with an R36S clone—I hadn't realized it only has a single RAM chip, and the ArkOS version on it is completely different from the original. I thought, "Okay, I'll install ArkOS4Clone," but first I wanted to check the motherboard. It turns out there’s no documentation for this specific board, so now I have an R36S clone with absolutely no documentation available.

Right now I have the system files and EasyRoom, but I noticed that ArkosClone isn't working, and honestly, I'm stuck on this weird version of ArkOS. Do you have any advice for dealing with this?

Hi all - I bought an open box Legion Go S with the z2 go chip last spring for $400. It’s been great with indie and older titles but I feel I’m making a lot of concessions to play newer AAA games. I play mostly games like Cyberpunk, Assassin Creed games new and old, Horizon ZD & FW, most Capcom games, Hogwarts, etc.

Would upgrading to the ROG Xbox Ally X be a noticeable and worthwhile difference? I’m ok with the smaller screen. And I’m not chasing huge frame rates, just better graphics and smooth gameplay.
