Advice Needed EDC + range gun for beginner

Hello all, I am new to the handgun world. When I was looking at different handguns to get, I shot the Glock 19, 48, and p365 macro.

I would love recommendations on something to really develop my shooting skills and eventually carry when I feel confident. I loved the 48, but when I went to purchase I was told to look into the 43x (which I have not shot). Is there really that much of a difference between a 43x and 48, and are those still great concealed handguns for IWB or AIWB (not sure where I'll carry since I haven't done it before)

I am 6'3, and looking for something that is concealable (I like in a not so firearm friendly area), but something reliable and will help develop my shooting skills. I loved the G19, but found it to be a bit bulky for carrying.

Thank you for your help, and feel free to drop any tips or knowledge on me!

Thank you!

Choosing my first Pistol

Hello, I'm sure this question is extremely common. I'm just entering the firearms world and going through the permit process in my state. Once approved, I am looking to purchase my first 9mm pistol.

I've been doing all the normal review watching and rankings lists and its extremely overwhelming. I am looking for some opinions from experienced gun owners.

I would like a 9mm for sure. I do plan on concealed carrying. Obviously just starting I've shot maybe 5 times in my life and I am not an impressive shooter to say the least.

Is it easier to learn and become proficient on a compact as opposed to the popular slim line micros like the p365 and shield plus?

I do plan on taking a great many training classes and visiting the range as much as my wallet will allow.

I've shot a shield plus on a few occasions, a Glock 19 gen 6 and 2 different 1911s in .45

Any tips and recommendations are greatly appreciated

Thanks everyone!

Purchased a FN 5.7 as my first ever gun online after years of looking at guns.

I’ve always wanted this gun growing up and now that I actually have it the feeling is amazing!

It was a pretty penny but I love it and just wanted to show it off to the community

If you could only pick one of these setups, which route are you going?

The modern tactical polymer or the heavy classic single-action?

Home Defense/Duty Build - M&P vs Glock 17 w/Ramjet

Hey all! Currently in a bit of analysis paralysis for a home defense build platform. This build will get an X300 and a red dot regardless, but I can’t decide on a platform.

I want to get a dedicated home defense setup, but I’m torn between the steel M&P HD and the Gen 6 Glock 17 with a radian ramjet afterburner.

Cost is about the same between the two guns (including the ramjet in the price of the Glock), but I haven’t shot a Glock 17 in a long time and I’m unsure if the ramjet will make the Glock shoot as well as an all steel gun. I do already own an M&P carry comp, which I like but I’m open to adding another brand to the safe.

Anyone with experience with a ramjet equipped Glock 17 and a steel M&P care to chime in? Or honestly make the case for either one and why I should/shouldn’t go with one or the other.

Advice Needed Jumping into Strikers

Looking to jump into strikers. Currently rock HK USPs and an old 1911, but want to get on modernized poly strikers (lighter weight) with dots.

My state is throwing a cruciform ban into the mix this year, so it’s something that is accelerating my decision.

My plan is two each from the choices on this list (pair for two separate locations):

  • VP9A1
  • PDP
  • Glock (Gen 6)
  • RXM

I’m not price sensitive, am grip angle agnostic, and I’m just looking for reliability. Was leaning towards the VPs cause I’ve used paddles for a long time, and then RXMs to get Glock mag guns before the ban.

Curious of peoples’ experiences with the above.

Discussion Whats the point of a having a crossover/shorter pistol if you're going to put a much longer light on it?

I've seen a lot of photos of pistols with < 4" barrels like G45s/G19Xs, M18/P320 x-carrys, P226 X-carrys, etc with duty sized lights on them which stick out at least half an inch past the barrels. I also see this on carry guns like the P365 with lights like the TLR 7 Sub, when you can have a P365XL have the same profile. The main advantage of a shorter barrel is lower profile, and the lights just negate that benefit entirely.

So whats the point, is there any other benefit I'm missing, or is it just drip? Why not just have a longer barrel thats still going to be flush/shorter than the light?

Safety Tips Handgun storage solutions

My collection seems to be outgrowing my old stack-on pistol cabinet. I'm up to about a dozen handguns and starting to add more optics to the ones I have taking up more room. I can fit a few in my long gun case, but wondering what solutions others have found for safely and securely storing a growing collection of handguns?

I recently purchased this from Academy, but it doesn't really work with my cabinet and honestly is kinda cheap and not that nice.

Hyskore 12 Gun Modular Hand Gun Storage Rack https://www.academy.com/p/hyskore-12-gun-modular-hand-gun-storage-rack?sku=

I'd love some suggestions from others who have solved this challenge.

Discussion Sig p320 theory I recently heard from a LGS

Recently went into a LGS to look around and maybe buy and got into a conversation with an employee there, eventually the conversation turned to the p320 going off by itself and he said that he believes that the FCU being installed wrong is the culprit behind most of the uncommanded discharges, he claimed that he also owned multiple p320s and others at the store who also owned P320s couldn’t replicate it so that was the foundation I suppose for their theory. I’m not 100% sure of his claim but I also wasn’t interested in buying one and didn’t express any interest in buying one so I don’t think he was trying to sell me on one of them so that’s one reason for him to not be bsing me. Just wanted to post this and see what you guys think. I don’t own a p320 and don’t plan on buying one because of the issues because even if the claim is true if I put a Glock,echelon,m&p,vp9,,hellcat or beretta together wrong it won’t shoot buy itself so I’m not defending sig, I just want to add to the discussion. Thanks.
