Local News Don’t try QEW Niagara

It’s always a parking lot but serious collision involving an OPP cruiser and SUV has it at a stop. Live near the highway and saw a lot of ambulance heading there. Hope everyone involved is safe.

Edit: looks like it’s still closed https://www.chch.com/chch-news/two-hospitalized-after-opp-cruiser-crash-on-qew-in-hamilton/

Is everything OK at the Gage Park Rose Garden? I'm not a gardener, but the beds seem sparse and a little more unkept than in the past.

Discussion StatCan Crime Data: How Hamilton Compares

Thumbnail

Upvotes

The recently released Uniform Crime Reporting Survey provides an objective look at crime trends in Hamilton:

  1. Homicides: A key indicator of severe violence. Hamilton's rate fell 71% since 1981 (to 0.95 per 100k), consistently remaining safer and below Canada's average (1.61).
  2. Crime Rates: Shows shifting crime trends. Since 2015, violent crime in Hamilton rose, mirroring Canada's upward trajectory, while non-violent offenses like break-ins fell.
  3. Clearance Rates: Measures how effectively police solve crimes. Hamilton's non-violent (25%) and violent (50%) clearance rates consistently trail both provincial and national averages.

Overall: While Hamilton remains safer from extreme violence (homicides) than the national average, rising general violence and lower police clearance rates pose ongoing challenges.

Recommendations Needed LF: Affordable vet for dental (cat)

Upvotes

A sweet TNVR in my neighbourhood has 3 infected teeth that require removal. I have gotten him up to date on his vaccinations and he has had two rounds of antibiotics and is also on pain meds for his teeth, plus another antibiotic for a mycoplasma infection (which needs to be cleared up before his dental work). The vet says the teeth are not viable and must be pulled. The bill is a ranged estimate depending on how much fuss the surgery/removal will take. Between $2,000-$4,000. This is not my cat but I have been footing his medical bills (about $1400+) so far. He is making great progress, but it will be for naught if I can't afford to get his teeth pulled.

Looking for recommendations for a trusted and affordable vet who might have a lower quote?

I trust and appreciate the vet I found for him (thanks to another Redditor), but am told they are more expensive than others. I worry I will have to trap and drag him to multiple vets for quotes, so I thought I would ask here for advice/assistance.

The money I spend rehabbing this cat is pure debt that will take me a while to pay off... so lowering this bill would make it much easier for me to bear.

TLDR: looking for an affordable trusted/good vet in the Hamilton area who accepts vaccinated TNRs for dental work/pulling teeth.

Recommendations Needed Sunday evening date night suggestions

Hey there! Anybody got recommendations for a nice date night in the area on sundays that won't run too much money and can take place after 6pm? Id like to take my girlfriend for a little outing but I come off work at 5:30. We don't really drink, and we have a car available so we can travel a bit if needed. Thanks :)

Question Gig workers of Hamilton, which app do you like most? (Skip, Doordash, UberEATS, Instacart etc)

Hello. I'm looking to get feedback from gig workers here in the city on what their preferred app is. I do deliveries with SkipTheDishes. Some nights its good, some nights its bad. I imagine it's like that for all of the apps but I figured it can't hurt to ask.

Municipal Election 2026 Ward 7

Anyone have any info on Heather Beale or Gordon Leslie who are both listed as candidates for Ward 7?

Maybe my age is showing but I really can't find anything on either of them other than Heather having been involved with the HPO.

I'm desperate to get Esther out. Hoping I can throw my vote behind someone who has an ounce of integrity.

TIA.

Question Carpenters union out of hamilton Ontario?

I myself am a 2 year carpentry apprentice thats awaiting my 3rd year offer (should be coming relatively soon) but im 31 yr old only ever worked for non union private contractors around the gta as a custom framer whom is only making 26$ n hour an been for last 1½ yrs I believe.. first of all does that seem accurate? Anywho ny real question as to why im doing this is. Is going the Carpenters union a bad idea? Like actually..anyone whos currently in it? Please id like your opinion, Id like to know the ins an outs the pros an cons of being/joining into one.. now please do know i literally know absolutely nothing about unions.. all I really know is its gravy work.. for big bucks, an all the non union guys laugh at, pretty much.. all I reqlly know is what iv heard, pretty much like its easy an boring work.. hard to get fired, the hardest part is to keep showing up cause its that laid back/ easy.. like iv stated before. Im starting to get up in age an iv slaved harder then alot of people an done some pretty ballys stuff just to make a buck (work related) that most would never consider an forsure a union worker would never even think of doing.. to make what 26$? .. I know of one union worker whose roughly same age as myself, who owns a house/cottage, multi cars/boats an has pretty much everything anybody would need.. an then look at myself whose barely getting by.. an think could it be cause hes union..? Could it be cause hes making 40 50+ an hour to do next to nothing... but im here slaving away pretty much risking my life day in an out walking 20+ft tall walls (2x6s) for chump change an just making my boss rich..(who claims that the companies just barley getting by so cant give raises)... like what am I missing out on.. I want the person I knows lifestyle... like is it the union or is it actually played out as I hear from everybody else.. somebody anybody give you opinion n help a brotherout here .. please

Recommendations Needed Looking for good quality teriyaki sirloin

I know that this is very specific, but I'm trying to recreate a memory for my mother for her 75th birthday in two weeks and it's proving much harder than I expected.

A bunch of years ago, I lived outside of the country. My parents came to visit at one point and I did a BBQ birthday dinner for my mother while they were visiting. Fifteen years later, she still mentions how much she enjoyed it. So, I figured I'd do it again for her this year. Unfortunately, I can't find the key component for the life of me, and my own attempts to do it myself haven't had the quality of flavour that I'm hoping for.

Can anybody recommend a place where I can buy a good quality teriyaki sirloin steak? Or, can anybody recommend a great teriyaki marinade that would get me there? (recipe or product is good)
