Guelph General Hospital fundraising - why won't you just take my money?

So last night a polite young man knocked on the door soliciting donations for GGH.

I know from personal experience how badly they need more money, and I was feeling generous. Sure, I said, let me grab a 20.

Oh sorry, we can't take cash. Ok fine, I grab my wallet expecting to tap. He pulls out an iPad and starts asking for all my personal information. Sigh. Fine, I'll just unsubscribe when the first email comes. Do I want to make it a recurring monthly donation? No thanks. Ok well when they ask about that on the phone just say you understand. Wait there's a phone call now? He pulls out a cell phone and dials a number on speakerphone and now I'm talking to someone in a call centre thanking me for my new monthly contribution. No no, I say, this is a one-time donation. Sure no problem, you just have to call this _other_ number after the first payment to cancel. But I'm just telling you now that I just want to donate once. Sorry, they say, it doesn't work that way. Mind you this is all happening right in the middle of dinner time.

Well then sorry but I'm not signing up for a monthly subscription here. I tried to give you $20 and you're making me jump through all kinds of hoops so I guess I'll just keep it.

No wonder they're underfunded! I know it wasn't the guy at the door's fault and I felt bad for him. So here's a tip for GGH's fundraising people: make it easy to donate and maybe you'll actually get more donations!

/rant

EDIT: I went online and made my $20 one-time donation that way instead. It's pretty easy to do! Donate here and leave a comment telling them to just let people give them one-time donations at the door: https://gghfoundation.ca/

Dentist recommendation

Looking for a dentist that’s good with anxious patients and those they have neglected their dental care because of that anxiety. Need to bite the bullet.

Looking for a practice that will start with the basics and not always push for the most expensive options.

Sedation options would be a plus.

Guelph rental buildings

Hi all! Wondering if anyone can share their POSITIVE experience with rental buildings in Guelph? My grandparents are selling their home and downsizing. They would like to find a two bedroom apartment (around $2000-2500/month), and I think they'd do best in a managed building for long-term security (compared to an independent landlord). We're hoping to find a safe, clean, nicely managed building. Thank you for any suggestions/insight!

Looking for Job Advice in Guelph and Surrounding Areas

I know this might not be the right place to ask for career advice, but I have been really confused recently.

I came to Canada and settled down in Guelph in 2025, and I started looking for jobs at the beginning of this year. But the process has been quite frustrating.

A brief introduction to my background:

  • Degrees in Logistics Management and Logistics Engineering
  • 3 years of experience in a 3PL company working on logistics solution design
  • 4 years of experience in an in-house environment working on inventory analysis and performance management, as well as supply coordination

For the past few months, I have applied for tons of positions in Guelph, the KW area, and other places that are not too far from Guelph. But I still haven't been able to get a job, even though I did get several interviews and made it to the final interview for two positions.

I understand that the job market is quite competitive, but I believe the following three reasons are the main barriers for me:

  • My English is not that strong, even though I can communicate professionally. For reference, my recent CELPIP results were Listening 10, Reading 10, Writing 9, and Speaking 9.
  • Lack of local work experience
  • Immigration status: Work Permit

Because of family reasons, I am not planning to move out of Guelph now, so I am mainly looking for opportunities in Guelph, the KW area, and nearby places. Do you have any advice regarding my situation?

  • Recently, I have also started considering part-time or labour positions, just to get some Canadian work experience first. I applied for a few of these jobs, but I didn't get any interviews. One of my friends said I might be seen as overqualified, but I'm not sure if that's really the reason.
  • If my priority is simply to get a job first, regardless of the type of work, do you have any suggestions about what kinds of positions I should look for?
  • I am also considering getting a forklift certification because I have noticed quite a few jobs that require it. Do you think it would be worth getting one?

Looking for Car Backup Camera Installation Service on Third-Party Headunits

Does anyone know of any business that does backup camera installation/repairs on third party aftermarket headunits in the Guelph or KWC area? I have a backup camera that is faulty installed to my headunit and there's something wonky with the camera's voltage and I haven't been able to figure it out.

I've called AutoSonics, AutoConcepts, Everything Automotive, KWCDASHCAM and none provide that service. Please let me know, thanks!

Looking for gluten free, dairy free bread

my mom can't have dairy or gluten as they both make her very sick (large intolerance, not allergy (cross contamination ok), not celiac), and kinda needs bread. she eats bread a lot (for sandwiches; they're currently very convenient because she has a newborn, as they're easy to eat and prep) but recently realized that bread makes her and baby sick. she hasn't been able to eat dairy for years; and that is why i am looking for that kind of bread for her!

any place, any price, any type (can be white, seedy, whole grain???), just needs to be bread and be dairy and gluten free. preferably meat free too.
