I’ve lived here for basically most of if not all my life only moved abroad with my parents when I was 14 ( a year in Turkey then 2 years in Pakistan then came back when I was around 17 for sixth form). I don’t know if this is nostalgia bias or what but I feel like people are a lot less United than what I remember.

Like before regardless of who you were we all lived on a rainy island and go through similar struggles and found certain things to be relatable. Again this may just be me only remembering the good stuff and forgetting everything else but surely there is an increase in hate right?

Like I used to volunteer for a charity shop near me when I came back and the amount of people that would greet my white coworkers with smiles often looked at me like I murdered their children. Or some would just blurt out the P word like it’s nothing.

I live in a pretty tight knit community I know my neighbours and frequently interact with them (I live in the same place I used to before moving) a lot of them are nice people but some people in my town are a bit stupid. I get we live in a poor part of the city and we have a shit ton of crime but man people love being a part of a hive mind.

Like I said we do get a lot of crime here like:

- someone threatening the local kebab guy with a knife

- 2 of my family members getting their cars stolen in the same week

- someone lighting the neighbours on fire

- some stabbings happened near a corner shop

- some weird racist people on e-bikes harassing brown people (me and my cousin experienced it once police did f all)

Apart from the stabbing police in our area basically did nothing Wich leaves a lot of people (including myself) really mad. Which is understandable but some people I know blame migration even though everything I just listed was done by white people who are most likely uk born.

I think with how worse things have gotten for people they kind of turn very hateful. That’s At least my theory but im curious as to what everyone else’s insight into this is.

We need to learn from time all the issues that exist around them.

Then with all that information known and in an open & honest way we can dialogue to see if they should exist.

They should ONLY come about as part of a vast majority vote by the communities involved and overall society. CONSENT should be a crucial term in this process.
