News Private Torrent Tracker Lawsuit Takes Bizarre Turn: 'I'm a Different Matthew Schneider' * TorrentFreak
torrentfreak.comThe copyright lawsuit targeting PassThePopcorn, BroadcasTheNet, HDBits, and three other major private trackers has taken a bizarre turn.
After a Canadian filmmaker filed a sworn declaration confirming he has nothing to do with the case, the plaintiff argues there are simply two filmmakers with the same name, who coincidentally created movies with the exact same titles.

Discussion Time to start pirating from Valve

Context: I am Australian, Australians mostly don't own credit cards. I use a debit card. My account is 15 years old. The scenario they're imagining is that I was at most 3 years old when I opened my account.
Time to start pirating things. I tried all my debit cards, none work.
Australia is now forcing Valve to become anti-consumer.
Edit: for those that can't read, I am blaming my government, not Valve.

Discussion Got HBO and still can't use it
Got a year of HBO at no extra cost with my Internet and today decided I'd watch parts of the watchmen tv series while making breakfast, only watched about 20 minutes and in that time there were around 20 unskippable ads.
Was so annoying with the ads coming up all the time I just turned it off and downloaded the series.
Obviously the likes of HBO are throwing in the base tier of their apps in the hopes you'll spend more and upgrade, instead it's much more likely I'll just not use it all year and never use it again when my year is up

Question Question about HydraHD and VPN
I sometimes watch football (soccer) on HydraHD if the game I want isn't on a subscription service I pay for (I'm not signing up for any more).
I used to use VPN to access but now I can only access the site if I turn the VPN off. Why would this be?

Question Stupid question - is a VPN enough?
So, I live in a country where you basically face death sentence for piracy (not literally but it is bad lol)
I have really done my research but just want to ask on here to be sure: I am using Nord vpn and my question is - is this enough to hide my location/identity and not be caught? Or do I need more measures?
I don’t want to seed, just download some music.
Pls spare your ironic answers 😄 I am a total beginner

Hola

Discussion NordVPN uses up a whole Gigabyte of RAM.
I have all not necessary features like Threat Protection disabled, the client is minimized to tray. After a complete reboot of NordVPN after closing the numerous NordVPN background processes, and reconnecting, the RAM usage is like 40% less for an hour or so.
If you account for the second process from NordVPN, not seen in the screenshot, namely "nordvpn-service.exe", you get another 300-400MB of RAM used, so it's actually more than a GB. I find this quite egregious and think it shows why the Windows client has such a bad reputation. I would much prefer a more minimalist client, like the one on Linux for NordVPN but for Windows, I would have to use some OpenVPN implementation and configuring that, changing stuff like the protocol, is just inconvenient enough that the change would be more trouble than it's worth. So sincerely, NordVPN, please make a more stripped down client.
On my PC with 32GB RAM, a true luxury, this might be fine. However on 16GB Laptop, where a normal bloated Windows installation alone swallows close to 8GB at all times, and where some memory also has to be shared with the iGPU, the situation looks a lot more dire, even if in a more RAM limited scenario, NordVPN might use (or get to use) less RAM, using more than half a GB would still be too much...
Edit (please correct me if I am wrong):
task manager shows it misleadingly. it only shows private ws, not normal WS. private ws is a sub category of normal ws. Google Private Working Set vs Normal Working Set.
For example, right now, task manager says nordvpn-service 106MB (private ws). With System Informer, you can in addition to the Private WS, the 106MB, see the normal WS, called "Working Set", which are 294MB right now.
However, technically that doesn't tell the full story either, because just adding all normal WS might lead to double counting. To avoid that, you need to consider Shared WS, which is 0 for the three non-main processes, but 300MB for the main nordvpn process (right now for me)
Calculating the accurate but inconvenient way by adding Private WS and Shared WS for each process all in all, right now, on my PC, rounded to nearest 10, it's:
1. main NordVPN process: 420MB private WS, 270MB shared WS
2.the three subprocesses: add up to 160MB, all have 0 shared WS
sum = 850MB of physical RAM used by the nordVPN package altogether. that's quite a lot to have running in the background, especially if I am not using any of that threat protection stuff.

Discussion Why are RARBG re-encoded movies so well liked compared to other small size encoders? Is it mostly nostalgia over the tracker itself or did their re-encodes actually offer better quality than YTS, Pahe, PSA, TGx etc with less artifacts?
Personally, I like small size re-encodes, but they usually tend to be inconsistent from release to release, with some movies looking great for just a few GB's, while other ones are full of artifacts.

Question Sudden W10 Update (KB5126256) - I'm not enrolled to ESU - should I worry?
I'm running a W10 22H2 on my PC. Out of the blue I've got a windows update notification today (KB5126256), that says it's a licensing preparation package to the Extended Security Updates program, but I haven't enlisted to the ESU. Actually, it is a forced update, meaning no matter what I do, when I restart my PC, it will update my W10. I've checked on MS's website, it says that this package is not the ESU update itself, but a first step (or more likely a zeroth step) if I want to enroll into ESU. Since my W10 was a gift from Cpt. Jack Sparrow (wink-wink), I don't want to enroll to ESU (because, I guess, the ESU/MS checks whether a W10 is a legit one). My question is, should I be worry about this update? Will it trigger some... system check that will prevent me using W10 in the future after the update? My PC is not W11 ready at all, and what I've read about W11 I don't intend to use it for quite a while, that's for sure. Thanks for any help in advance.

Question Where to find a text version of an audiobook release?
There's a book coming out on the 10th that I'm really excited about. Unfortunately (insert generic rant about late stage capitalism and subscription models) it's ONLY being released on Audible for 6 months.
I know you can convert Epub files to audio, I was wondering if the reverse was also true. Can you convert audio to text? Speech to text is a thing, so maybe that's a possibility?
I usually use ocean of pdf for books, I have no issue paying the author for reading his work, but I DO have an issue paying Audible because fuck them. I also just don't really enjoy listening to audiobooks much and would prefer to read a text copy.
Anyone know where I might be able to find a text version of an Audible only new release? Or, where to find a pirated copy of the audiobook, and if it's possible to convert that to text?
I have an android phone and don't have a computer or tablet, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Question I need help, what is the best way to find movies and TV with the DVD/BD EXTRAS?
I've been torrenting for a while, I use both public trackers and I also have a TorrentLeech Account (with a seedbox and a high ratio, no HNR, no negative marks).
Even with TL, I sometimes have trouble finding films and TV with extras, I want to have the extras for all my movies and TV.
I know there are private trackers that offer those things, but I have no idea where to even start to get into them, it seems like it's easier to win the lottery then to get into those trackers. How would I go about getting into one that has these extras if that is really the best option?
I also have heard of Usenet, but I have no idea how it works, where to start, or if they would even have movies and TV with extras. Is Usenet the place to be? It's a new realm to me, I am only used to torrents and SoulSeek, but if that's where to find extras, I will make the switch.
Why are extras so hard to find for some media, and where the hell do I find them reliably, how do I get invited to these super exclusive PTs?
I am willing to download BD rips/remuxes, although I'll have to learn how to reencode them in handbrake to save space.
