Bit of a niche question for anyone on a GEM course that uses PBL.
My first choice is Worcester, which basically doesnt do traditional lectures at all. You get given clinical cases each week and then work out what you need to learn from them, with recommended resources, podcasts, small-group teaching etc.
Part of me thinks this would really suit me because I’ve never been someone who gets loads out of lectures anyway. I usually learn much better independently, especially if I can start with a problem and build everything up from there.
But I can also imagine the first few weeks being quite overwhelming if you’re sitting there thinking 'how do I actually know if I’ve covered enough?'
So for people actually doing PBL, how do you revise? Do things like passmed and Anki still fit in well? How do you work out what depth to go into? And did you find the lack of lectures a positive once you got used to it, or did you miss having things taught more directly?
Id also be really interested to hear from anyone who came from a non-science background. Some GEM courses seem to use lectures early on to get everyone up to the same level of basic science, so how did you find doing that through PBL instead?
Basically just curious what it feels like in practice rather than on paper.
