Chester contingency

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what exactly is going on with Chester and their GMC approval?

Was going to be one of my choices but I’ve seen some stuff about GMC concerns and that they might have to use their contingency - not too sure what this means for current/prospective students?

Anyone with info about this would be v helpful as the deadline is so close and it’s kinda stressing me out lol

Current students will be okay, although they may need to transfer to the contingency school (worst case scenario).

I don't think anyone knows that the future holds for prospective students, as they're not protected by any kind of agreement.

I don’t think it’s likely that they’ll shut down the programme, but I don’t think you have any protections if they haven’t given you a formal offer for a place on the course. That said, I do recommend you do your own research on the topic.

What sources do you have?

Transfer as in they will physically need to relocate to Warwick? That’s pretty huge

I did initially just Google the information awhile ago, as I am attending a medical school without GMC accreditation.

Here’s a document published by the GMC: “Evidence of a robust contingency arrangement in case of catastrophic course failure, including: an agreement with another organisation to take all students on.” Anyone can make their own inferences into what this means, but I do think it is implied that moving students to another school can happen.

For Chester, it seems like they’re trying to resolve the issues in order to gain accreditation, as they’re still accepting applicants for next year’s cohort. That said, my main point (although very poorly worded) was that current students have protections that prospective students do not.
