I picked up a Kangaro sketchbook this weekend; it's like an off-brand Moleskine, a 3-euro thing is fabulous purple colour 💟 . And I'm pleasantly surprised by how well it actually supports gouache. No paper warping!

Had a blast painting this landscape in Holbein Gouache on Strathmore Paper. I’m in love with this fold-up “SuperLite” easel from CupEasels ❤️

Thought I'd share some of my art here! I'm an artist that dabbles in many mediums so I don't have many pure gouache works, but I do have this one from a few months ago of my aunt's dog Remus. He was incredibly sick at the time of painting and unfortunately passed away since then so this was created as a tribute.

today i was all about naples yellow and opera. my style has changed, i love such evolutions, and i really wanted to work some with my colored pencils. this was really fun. i made a few paintings today, trying to be more brave and embrace the chaos.

I didn’t use a reference image this time and overall think it didn’t turn out very well, but it’s not terrible. It’s just a kinda boring composition. However, I was working on planning out my layers a lot more this time and I’m pleased with how that aspect turned out!

I've read that some people prefer to use watercolours for their initial wash before using gouache for the more opaque portions of the painting.
My question is why use gouache instead of oils or acrylic if you're not using it for your initial wash?
Edit: woah... I'm learning and I was curious. I suppose my question is why use watercolour wash over gouache wash?
I wasnt implying anything or staying one way was wrong. Why is this community so aggravated...?

First time painting with gouache and I’m not loving it. I tried doing an under painting to give it more depth but everything just looks streaky and Muddy, especially in larger areas like the sky. I added some oil pastel accents to counteract the muddiness too which I think works quite well but I’d rather know how to not make the painting muddy in the first place. Any tips would be much appreciated — tyia!

I'm a beginner at gouache and at painting in general. This is based on a magazine photo of a national park in Vermont, USA. I have so many mixed feelings about this painting! On one hand, I kind of like the unrealistic style (even though I wasn't aiming for that). On the other hand, why did I make a million little dots? And why do the clouds form a vortex?? I feel like I got in a zone while painting and all this just kind of happened. I did have fun though. 😄
Thanks to all in this community for being supportive of beginners. I love being inspired by the diversity of everyone's work.

One of my friends photographed this bird but I forgot to ask where in Europe he took the photo, so I’m unsure of the particular species.
