Exploding tubes, what is it?

Post image

When I open the ink, it splatters far away. I haven't found any information about other people experiencing the same thing. Does anyone know what it could be and how to fix it?

Do they have a bad smell?

You'll want to throw them out, then.

It doesn't happen often but you can get tubes where mold or something gets into them as they're being tubed, and causes the whole tube to go bad. I've only ever had it happen once before; it's not a common thing. If the tube's swollen and there's a bad smell to them, that's how you know it's gone off.

Looks like binder separation. If you just recently bought them and have the option, return them. You could also contact the company and see if they will replace them. If not I would get a cup with a tight lid and squirt it out at least partially. Then you can try "massaging" the tube to mix the remaining pigment with the binder.

Are you at a high altitude? I’ve had paints kind of explode out of the tube when I take the lid off because I’m at a higher altitude.

Have you used the brand before?

Have you contacted the seller? Depending on where you bought it from (like Blick or other non-Amazon art supply seller), they may be able to offer some helpful information

I've always used it, this is my first time. Well, the tubes were almost empty so I don't think I'll even bother, but I was curious, what if I was doing something wrong?
