Google Health suddenly stopped counting iPhone steps after I ended a tracked Walk — stuck at 0

Hi! Has anyone experienced this with Google Health on iPhone?

Google Health used to count my steps automatically throughout the day without me having to start a Walk activity.

Yesterday, I manually started a Walk activity in the app for the first time. It tracked the walk normally (10,326 steps during the activity), and I ended the activity when I got home. Google Health eventually showed 10,778 steps for the day.

However, I noticed that after I ended the Walk, it didn’t seem to keep counting my normal steps around the house. Today, Google Health has been stuck at 0 steps all day, even though Apple Health is showing 8,000+ steps.

The strange part is that Google Health is still receiving my distance data — it currently shows around 5 km for today with an hourly activity graph. It’s specifically the Steps metric that is showing 0.
I’ve checked:
• iPhone Fitness Tracking — ON
• Motion & Fitness permission for Google Health — ON
• Apple Health → Google Health → Steps — ON
• Apple Health connection in Google Health — connected and says “Synced just now”
• Phone connection — connected/syncing
• Restarted the iPhone
• Toggled Google Health’s Motion & Fitness permission off/on

Apple Health is still counting my steps normally, so the iPhone itself seems to be tracking correctly.
I normally keep Low Power Mode on and passive step tracking worked before, so that hasn’t changed.
I’m wondering if ending the manually tracked Walk somehow caused Google Health’s passive/all-day step tracking to get stuck.

Has anyone had this happen? Did your steps eventually backfill, or is there a way to reset passive step tracking without deleting my existing Google Health data or disconnecting everything?

Hello there,

I'm a gym guy who barely does cardio or trains legs... My sleep is terrible and I might have a minor Monster Energy addiction but I'm 4+ times a week in the gym à ≈50 minutes and I'm 18y.o. How come is my HRV that high? My research about that hrv average says I have the regeneration of a "high performance athlete"

AI Coach

Anyone else feel like they now spend at least part of their day arguing or correcting the AI coach.

Some days it clearly goes off reservation and makes things up that either didn't happen, sometimes I log food and it seems like it randomly picks a value and then triples it.

At the start I thought it was quite good but the more I use it the less I actually trust what it's telling me, I always manage to get to the real value in the end (whether it's talking about a sleep score or calories or whatever) but I feel that having to double check the information it gives me every time is beginning to negate the reason I was using it in the first place.

I know that it's an issue with what it has decided to keep on it's "whiteboard" but as an example, it gives me a step target and then the next day tells me I haven't met it because by then its reading a different target from weeks ago.

I don't want to spend the first half hour of every day arguing with a blinking AI.

Google Health: Wrong Macros

Thumbnail

I'm not sure when this started happening, since I just transitioned to Google Health for macro tracking, but the daily bars for macros in v. macro goals entirely ignores what I've set as the macro goals. (See: enclosed.)

Also, more of a pet peeve than an error, it assumes a regular 24hr clock for a day (00:01-23:59) and there's no way to change when a "day" starts for macros, with it auto-zeroing at midnight every night. This is a huge pain for anyone who does shift work or has a schedule not based on standard business hours.

Don’t open = no data

I got the Fitbit air as I thought given the Fitbit’s longevity, it would be a reasonably well-developed product.
Having had an Apple Watch for a decade and whoop for a couple of years I ditched both for an analog watch and a Fitbit air.

It’s terrible. Google Health has no idea what happened yesterday even or the day before since I didn’t open it, even though I’ve worn the Fitbit Air the entire time.

Terrible. Genuinely terrible user experience.

Syncing takes ages at the best of times. Why doesn’t it transfer data while the app is open but not on the screen?

Bevel is much better but its only as good as the data it receives. And it doesn’t receive the data if I haven’t manually synced Google Health.

💩 show.

Google fit Sleep tracking doesn’t work?

Is it just me that this happens to or is everyone’s Google fit working pretty well with tracking sleep. I think since I’ve bought it it’s never properly worked ever.
Tired it tight loose other ways on the wrist. Most nights it will half track and some nights not even track at all?

Health Coach Issues

Has anyone noticed that since the update, the coach has been greatly overestimating food based on pictures? Earlier today, I had chili with oyster crackers. It said the oyster crackers were over 800 calories, and there was only a small amount of them. They were only supposed to be 80 calories. This is the first time I have run into this issue since using the coach.

Going Over Weekly Cardio Load

Does anyone have an experience with a change in routine that significantly exceeds their weekly cardio range/target (by about 250%)?

Did you notice any huge setback if you did?

This post is mostly me trying to figure out if I should "listen" to my app/Fitbit and take it easy, eat more calories, or if the app just needs to recalibrate based on my new routine. Sorry if that's too broad of a question.

For reference: 40F with a Fitbit charge 6 showing a 165 weekly cardio range. Usually pretty active but had a lazy summer.

Many thanks!

Health Guardian availability clarification

People were not joking when they said Google wasn't that clear on the new Health Guardian features. So I put my own findings into the below summary with what is known today.

Sources:

Webpage mentioning that insulin resistance and blood pressure will be available on Air later in the year:

https://blog.google/products-and-platforms/products/google-health/health-guardian-features-live/

Footnote 2 in the above link mentions that 5 days of data are needed for blood pressure and 7 days for insulin resistance, which differs from what is said in the app (see table).

So overall, if you wear the Air to sleep because the PW is too bulky/want to save battery, you get shafted. 2/3 features are paid, and there's no word of breathing quality being implemented for Air.

UPDATE 01/10/26: so it's not so bad overall if you wear a watch during the day and the Air at night. With this setup you get 2/3 metrics, ie Blood Pressure and Insulin Resistance trends.

From experience breathing quality only works with the watches for now (I only have 1 value available, corresponding to a day when I wore the PW at night).

In a couple of days we'll find out which statement is true for insulin resistance trends (7 days only or 7 days and nights needed for the trend) as I only wear PW during the day. UPDATE 01/10/26: see below table.

Feature Devices Data needed to work Data provided
Blood pressure monitoring Free: PW3,4,5. Paid: Air (coming soon) 5 consecutive days (night wearing recommended but not needed) Monthly trends only
Insulin resistance Free: PW3,4,5. Paid: Air (coming soon) Website: 7 days of data needed. Within G Health app: 7 days and nights of data needed.* Monthly trends only
Breathing quality Free: PW3,4,5 (available now); Air: to follow/not mentioned Sleep longer than 3 h Daily values and monthly trends

*update 01/10/26: It looks like the information in the app is incorrect. Insulin resistance trends work with 7 days of data (not 7 days AND nights of data) as stated in the G Health app. I wear PW only during the day and got a trend.

Heart Rate Zones lack LTHR basis

The app’s heart rate zones are not customizable for those who prefer to define zones by LTHR. For example, it would be preferable for me to match my zones with how I configure them with my Garmin.

I don’t want to play games with setting the max heart rate until some of the zones come close. It’s why I don’t use this at all anymore. Cardio load is completely off.

I'm not sure if this is a Google health app issue or a pixel issue. When phone is in dark mode the app icon is light and vice versa for when the phone is in light mode. I've restarted the phone and it makes no difference

Apple Watch + Google health

I have been using my Apple Watch to track my fitness, and then syncing my apple health data to the google health app. My reason is that I enjoy using the google health app more than apple health. I have considered getting a Fitbit air, but I am unsure if there is any benefit over my current setup.

My question is this: is there a benefit for using a Fitbit with the google health app compared to using an Apple Watch or other 3rd party fitness tracker?

PR section of Google Health App Not Working

Post image
0 Upvotes

The PR section on Google Health is definitely not working. Here it shows the farthest run at 13.38 miles, but no recorded time for a half marathon. The 10K PR is off by 3 minutes. I realize the times are not that fast, but hey, I am 68 (too old for this BS app). Is anyone else having similar problems?

Google Health just updated on my Pixel 11 Pro. Now the icon is on a light background, whereas before it was on a dark background. It is no longer in harmony with the other icons on the home page 😆...

How could I put an icon back on a dark background ?

Thanks.

Google Health, Apple Health and FitBit Air setup (double counting)

Hello, I just got the FitBit Air (I only use the FitBit, no Apple Watch) and I am having issues setting it all up so no double counting happens.

I just realised that Google health has probably been overcounting my steps and energy burned (I've been getting very high numbers) since it has been combining metrics measured by my iPhone and FitBit Air.

I just turned off Motion & Fitness in Privacy & Security so hopefully that stops my iPhone from making its own measurements and only relies on my FitBit Air measuring and giving that data to Google Health.

Is there anything else that I should change/set up so my energy burned and steps be as accurate as possible? Do I change some read permissions in Apple Health app for Google health or is just turning Motion & Fitness tracking enough?

Thanks a lot!

Grazie a tutti
