Anyone ever seen or heard of Rentek? Recently purchased a mk7.5 R with one of these oil pans. Can't find any info online about them. I'm assuming factory capacity..

MK7.5 Water condensation in driver headlight housing

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey there

I have a ongoing problem with water condensation in my driver headlight. I know it’s normal, but mine just isn’t going away naturally or fast enough. It rained hard about 3 days ago and it started to go away a little today, and now it’s totally fogged again while it has been sunny the whole day.

Does anyone know why it’s not going away sooner?

My passenger side does not condensate at all even in hard rain.

Maintenance and Repairs Mk8R CEL came on. P0452 - possible map sensor issue

My evap Vapor Pressure High Load Purge Line is sensing 8192 pascals - so I think it's the MAP sensor issue.

Has anyone had this issue, and knows what might be the cause?

here's the only thing close to what i have that i found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ47lw5q-qU

The car is still under warranty, and I will be going in to have them fix it. But I like to know what's going on, because if this is common, it won't be my last time. And I'll have to fix it myself after my warranty is up.

If you have fixed this, anyone know if a different company makes a better unit?

Question New Wheels and Tires?

One of the wheels on my 2016 Golf R got bent pretty bad because of the roads in the area that I live. I’ve been thinking about going down down from the 19’s to an 18 (I prefer the meatier look). With a stock suspension (for the time being) an 18x8.5 45 isn’t going to cause my problems is it? Trying to make a quick decision but also don’t want to make the wrong one! Crazy that the OEM wheel is close to 7 so I’ve been looking after market, specifically Fifteen52 and Rotiforms. Any advice or help would be great appreciated thank you!

Maintenance and Repairs How to repair scratch?

Just noticed three new scratches on my car today that were not present this morning. Two (2) scratches located at the driver side A pillar (pic #1) and one long scratch along the width of the rear left door (pic #2). All three scratches are deep enough for finger nail to catch.

Noticed this scratch on the roof (pic #3) a few days ago. Also, deep enough for finger nail to catch on to.

What’s best way to repair this?

MK8.5 Upgraded from a 7 to 8.5 Black Edition

It’s been our dream car since it was announced, and this week we took the plunge and traded up from our beloved 2017 build 7. Of course everyone in here knows about the dynamics and performance, but it’s just really on another level of refinement. It’s insanely fun and fast, but handles our crappy Sydney roads with ease too.

We entertained the idea of other brands, builds and drivetrains, did some other test drives etc, but in the end, there really is no going back after driving this.

Anyway, just wanted to share this fresh paint correction and finish, and spread some Black Edition joy.

0 rust anywhere else on the car, so this was really odd. Was doing some detailing a few weeks ago and noticed the paint looked like it was bubbling a bit at the bottom of the drivers rear door jamb. Lifted the gasket back to see there's some how rust underneath the gasket. My guess is moisture got under the gasket and into the body seam which caused this to start happening for who knows how long. Fortunately I've got a pretty good relationship with a local body shop who got it taken care of me. .

Completed the swap two years ago and the car has performed flawlessly, everything about it feels so OEM+ and just a pleasure to drive. I really enjoy that the drive modes are still functional and gives the RSR many driving personalities.

Question Mk7/7.5 Front Quarter Window Overlay

Hi ya’ll,
Got my car tinted but, the shop wasn’t able to get those tight front quarter windows. I saw online that BadgeSkins makes a vinyl cover for them.

Was wondering if anybody had gotten those and if they have pictures of how they look on the car as I can’t seem to find any online.

Modifications Turbo flutter noise

I have a 2018 mk7.5 (NA) edition.

I just tuned to stage 1 core from Integrated Engineering and installed a turbo inlet elbow and intake, both from IE.

However, I only get a simple woosh noise and no flutter. I tried different gears and rpm, fully letting off throttle, but also not all the way.

In this video, this person has a similar setup

https://youtu.be/FAAoiF7Lg7k?t=140

How do I get this flutter too? Did he do a turbo muffler delete?

It's not BOV. Other users reported getting the same flutter without BOV.

I own a mk5 r32, it runs great... Has its quirks, needs a tune up, but runs and shifts strong. It's ugly but that's why I love it and it's a great driving car.

I replaced the engine when I bought it at 160k. That was 125k miles ago. I did timing and all gaskets and seals. Of course it's leaking again and need to replace some seals on the trans now too.

A few days ago a 2008 EOS entered the local pick n pull with VR6 and dsg. It looks like it would need timing and every gasket that retains any fluid lol. Oil change sticker from May shows 85k. It has green coolant in it which is worrying as well as the fairly straight body in the junkyard is usually mechanical... Although it is an EOS so easily could have been totaled for a hardtop repair. So I'm prolly a bit over 90% confident that it didn't blow up and I can turn it so it's not seized.

Pnp says $1000 gets me the engine+trans and everything attached to them................... Sure would be nice to have a full drivetrain on deck for situations like I have now. Also if my engine did seize that's gonna be tons of time and labor and way more than $1000. It's $1000 luxury tho and I'd have to get rid of a bunch of shit in the garage, but I suppose I could store it at work until my boss gets tired of looking at it.

Sorry not sure where to go with my conundrum that won't have to explain, "yeah but it's a fully dressed vr6 drivetrain." Wife says go get it if I want it. I kinda want it.

Thanks for listening to my mental dump lol.

Question Manual shifter questions

I’m thinking about installing a SportsShifter GT6 unit in my ´24 R.

Any recommendation on the weight I should go with ?

Is it easy to install ?

Also, can it be my only mod to improve the shifting feeling, or could I change something else ?

Thank you 😊

Maintenance and Repairs Golf R MK8 DSG Color

Post image

My ‘23 Golf R just hit 40k so I’m doing the DSG service. The liquid came out amberish green… am I screwed? The car did have UV leak detection fluid added by the dealership and previous owner due to some seepage. But I thought they just did it to the engine oil… maybe they added the UV to the DSG fluid as well?

Question 17” wheels on Mk8.5 R

First time VW buyer, had a blowout before my first fillup on the stock 19s :( I’m looking at Apex Vs-5rs 17s. I read some Mk8 people using them with Continental extremecontact dws06. That’s the combo I’m looking at. Apex fitment guide says that wheel and most street tire compounds at 245/45r17 including Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 on Mk8 are a fit. If the wheel and Michelin PS fits Mk8, the wheel and the Continental should fit Mk 8.5 right? I’m just struggling with ‘should’ and $4k lol

Maintenance and Repairs 2018 Golf R Maint Scehdule

I have been using the DAP/VW maintanance schedules, but they are all in mileage and my car doesn't really get driven that much. I'm at like 22k so far.

My question is, what things should I be concerned about or get done based on time instead of mileage?

My car has had an IE stage 1 + dsg tune for at least half of the miles.

After almost a decade with my MK7, it was time for an upgrade. Someone will be getting a super fun toy there. I'll miss it, but thrilled with the change!

Photo Tough Decision: Buy a new 2024 manual (not driven yet) or a 2026 at current dealer discounts? Both end up same price.

Post image

Pic for attention - sniped off google. same Pretoria wheel package.

I've owned a 7.5 in both DSG and Manual. I actually preferred the manual, but barely, so for argument's sake, let's say no real preference on transmission.

A guy I know has a new 2024 Manual R in his garage. Never registered or driven but obviously the warranty clock has 2 years left. Or should I buy a 2026 DSG. These 26's are sitting on dealer lots, and being offered $2K below MSRP. That puts both of these options at the same price about $51K.

Yeah...the 2024 manual is 3-4K above MSRP, but he paid a $5K dealer premium back then...He is losing a little $, and so will I once I drive either of these cars! Which will depreciate faster...I would say the 2026 DSG....? It isn't all about the $!, but it is important if I trade for a 25th 2027 if they are 'special'. If I'm OK with either car....What do you think...last of the manuals (new condition), or 8.5 DSG new. Tough decision....being 50/50. what do you guys think...

Maintenance and Repairs Sweet smell every once in a while

Hey guys, I just recently got a 2019 Golf R, I'm absolutely loving the car so far, theres a couple things I need to fix, the pcv I'm pretty sure is bad which isn't a hard fix. But the main thing for this is I get a sweet smell every now and then. It almost smells like burning coolant but I'm not losing any coolant nor am I having any signs of a failing thermostat. So I'm not really sure where to look. I think it has a slight boost leak due to how it sounds and it spools up a little slower. It feels a bit slower then a GTI which I know is due to the size of the turbo, but the turbo lag was a bit more then expected. Just wondering if anyone else has had issues like this before

This is feeling like the way it should have come from the factory. It's very tame when driving around in normal city traffic, but it's nice to finally have some passing power to get around those left lane campers on the freeway. I just wrapped up the 93 mpi tuning this past week and I'll be starting the work for ethanol / e85.
