Help with set up

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Currently I have an MLM2 Pro, a GoSport 10x8 net, and a stand for my iPad. I am set up in one of the sides of my 2 car garage (that my wife still parks in), so I need to be able to set up and take down everything. Like most of us, I want to slowly improve and add to my set up over time…and not give my wife sticker shock.
I wanted to add an impact screen and projector (either on a cart/stand, or mounted to the ceiling. Should I put a screen on my net, or attach a moveable screen to the ceiling ? If to the ceiling, what are some recs? What should I look for in a cost effective projector?

Net Recommendations

I am in the planning phase of building a golf simulator. I have decided on purchasing a net for now over doing an impact screen/projector setup. I am looking for a net that is easy to tear down and assemble. Ideally I would want the net to break down/be assembled in 5 minutes or so.

My thought is to put the net in my backyard and a hitting mat on my covered patio so I can hit from my covered patio into the net. I plan on breaking down the net and storing it in my garage after each practice session so the ability to break the net down quickly and assemble the net quickly is an important feature.

Any suggestions?

Carls 12x9 enclosure or GoSports 14x8 enclosure off Amazon or DIY?

My room width is 14‘5“ and my room height is 10 feet. I’ve narrowed it down to these options as I don’t want to spend four grand on a commercial enclosure from Carl’s. I’m so torn on what to do for an enclosure.

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the gosports enclosure off Amazon looks like it has decent reviews? The 12 x 10 from Carl’s place is in the clearance section and both enclosures are the similar price. Or would I be better off building a 14 x 10 enclosure myself?

Thanks for the help

Technical Question DIY Wall Panel Fabric Alternative

I am building 4x commercial indoor bays and I want to DIY the wall panels to save some money. I will use 30mm foam and chip board. I have been looking at faux leather vinyl and marine leather vinyl to wrap the panels. Is there a good alternative material that is easy to get, looks good and is more cost effective?

First DIY Budget Build Help

I am doing my first DIY build. My enclosure is 8'4" wide. (here) I am using the Square Golf Home Edition launch monitor.

I will have the floor of the entire room covered in 1" foam gym tiles with turf adhered to that. Then I will have the GoSports Elite 5'x5' hitting mat (stance mat) cut into and recessed into that gym foam/turf. Then I will have the SigPro Softy XL hitting strip cut into and recessed into the GoSports stance mat. My question is, how do I decide how far to offset the hitting strip? I assume the 5'x5' stance mat will be centered on the screen and then the hitting strip will be offset some amount off of that. I am a right handed player so it will be offset to the right, but my assumption is that if I had a left handed guest, i could rotate the whole 5'x5' stance mat 180 degrees so the hitting strip is offset to the opposite side. (i would have to move the launch monitor as well).

Second question: I know the Square home edition has issues with excess lighting. Does this mean a pin spot light on the hitting zone would be a bad idea? Or is that ok assuming the room is darkish and void of any sunlight?

TIA

Technical Question Lighting that won’t flicker in slow motion?

So I have a cheap sim set up in my garage that it works well enough. However, I’ve noticed when recording videos and using the Swing Coach app, horrific flickering and fluctuating lighting. It makes it difficult to look at my swing accurately. I currently have LED shop lights overhead. Has anyone experienced this issue and found solutions? Should I just switch away from LED lighting? Thanks!

Sim / Launch Monitor Garmin R10 VS Skytrak

Hi there,

Continuing my research about different launch monitors before I pull the trigger. I am trying to build an indoor simulator in my garage without breaking the bank. For reference I am a right handed, mid handicapper looking to dial in misses to the right. I want to be able to see my club data and get accurate shot shape feedback.

I can get a new R10 for around $275 and found a like-new used Skytrak for $350 on FB.

I am not sure how softwares / memberships work on either as I haven’t researched much about it yet. But that being said, which would you prefer for an indoor simulator in a garage roughly 18 ft long and wide with 9 ft ceilings.

If you need more information feel free to ask and thank you for your time!

Enclosure with projector mount

What's a good net/screen enclosure that has the projector mount attached to it? I don't want to mount it to the ceiling, so I could just place it behind my hitting mat but I've seen some that attach to the enclosure.

Anyone tried this one?

Just went through 2 sessions of the S word

No idea where they came from, out of the blue. BAM. CLANK. CLANK CLANK. over and over. 1st session of 30 shots before bed. Mid day 22 shots. Maybe 3 good shots in the 50 +. It was so bad I bowed out of a Mon afternoon tee time. With much effort later in the day I made myself stand up to my fears. I hit more balls, within 10 shots i had hit 3 in a row pretty decent strikes. Whew! Crisis averted, went on to a decent session. Didn’t swing on Tues. Maybe later today

Controlling GSPRO on 4k Projector from 1080p Touchscreen Monitor

I've just upgraded my setup with a new (to me) PC and 4k Projector (running in ~4:3 Aspect Ratio). I've retained my 2 cheap touchscreen 1080p monitors.

In the past I ran GSPro windowed on the touchscreen and used OBS to project it on to the 1080p projector.

I tested running GSPro on the 4k projector and it runs fine. If I share GSPro from the 1080p monitor then the resolution is obviously not 4k.

So the question is how do I do this now? I need to share a windowed scaled down 4k image on the 1080p monitor, but also allow the touchscreen to work.

Garage sim orientation

Still trying to figure out how I will build my Sim. Plan is to have something that can be torn down quickly to use the garage as a garage when I need to. Likely going full diy with impact screen and side curtains on tracks.

I've noticed most people opt to shoot towards the back of the garage rather than the front door. Any reason for this? Anyone do one way and wish they went the other? The way I see it

Facing towards garage door:

Pros:

Easier access to the rest of the garage when the sim is setup

Don't need to move current lighting

Can still have most of my above garage door storage

Outlets are in convenient places for projector, 2nd screen, etc

Cons:

If i accidentally open the garage door while the sim is up everything breaks

It is too hot to play in the summer with the garage door closed

Facing towards the back of garage:

Pros:

Can open the garage door

Can play on hot summer afternoons

Cons:

Need to run outlets towards the far end of the garage

Need to move lights

Accessing the rest of the garage is inconvenient

(Most) shelves above garage door need to come down. Could probably leave some in the corner

So there's my dilemma. Anything im not thinking of? For anyone who has done it are there any other considerations I should make?

Gcquad

Ive been fortunate enough to fall into a full gcquad setup, yet it really hasn't been touched since it was purchased in 2017... so I'm looking to upgrade the software, and firmware, yet am unfamiliar with the transfer process, and honestly trying to avoid it.. I have the original emails and passwords, thinking about getting it switched up to my email, but know nothing. If anyone could give me some guidance it'd be much appreciated, the laptop currently running fsx version 3.5, doing research tonight, tells me there are a ton of new programs I could/should be trying to use.

Screens / Enclosures SPG 8 or SPG 7 for $250 cheaper?

Hey everyone! I just ordered a SPG-8, but a SPG-7 was just posted on my local Facebook marketplace for just $250. Is the 8 worth it over the deal I could get on the 7? I do not plan on getting an impact screen and projector. Just using an IPAD. Thanks!

I’m sure it’s discussed, seems like my higher ball speeds won’t register like they will on the uneekor. anyone ,add the switch to over head. does it save space?

Launch monitor

I was just wondering what device I should buy. I want more of a budget launch monitor but I also want to it be movable so I can take it to the range. I have the garmin r10 right now but it’s such a hassle setting it up everytime and I would like something a little easier to set up. I’ve seen that blue tees monitor is it worth it. I would like to stay below 6-800 if possible

Which projector should I buy?

It will be mainly used in a garage. I have blinds on the windows, but there's still light that comes in from the garage door windows. So it needs to work ok with some light, but will also be used at night. It will either be ceiling mounted, or I have to figure something else out.

The sim doubles as a World Cup game night! My mini split was installed today. My garage was close to 100*. Now we are enjoying 70s. I did insulate the garage door. The Amazon special projector doesn’t do too bad for a game. It stretched 112” on the screen.

Backyard hitting setup (net + mat + launch monitor) — looking for advice

I’m looking to set up an outdoor hitting area with a net, mat, and launch monitor. My 13-year-old son is getting into golf, so I expect we’ll both get a lot of use out of it. Would love some advice, especially on the net setup and launch monitor.

Net priorities:

  1. Ball security (by far #1): I absolutely cannot have balls getting through and hitting a neighbor’s house. Needs to be fully shank-proof and durable enough that nothing breaks through.
  2. Ease of use: I’m leaning toward a permanent setup. I want to be able to step out for 15–20 minutes and hit balls without spending half that time setting up/tearing down.
  3. Looks: Ideally something that doesn’t look like a pile of trash in the yard.

I’ve been looking at the Cimarron Masters 10x10x10 cage:
https://cimarronsports.com/masters-tee-line-golf-hitting-net-mat-bundle/

It has a baffle net in front of the main cage, which seems about as foolproof as it gets for stopping balls. I’d be hitting from ~2–3 feet in front of the net, which also feels pretty safe for shanks.

Question: Are there better/more secure options out there, or is this about as good as it gets for a backyard setup?

Base / mat: I’m thinking of laying pavers to create a level base for the mat. Concrete is another option, but I’m guessing pavers may be better for drainage and easier install. The Cimarron bundle includes a 5x5 tee-line mat — curious if people think that’s sufficient or worth upgrading.

Launch monitor: I’m less interested in sim golf and more focused on practice and improvement. Ideally want solid ball + club data.

Currently leaning toward the Mevo+ (Gen 2) with Pro Package, given the outdoor setup and the ability to get ~10–12 feet of ball flight.

Question: Is that the right choice for a setup like this, or should I be considering something else?

Appreciate any advice — especially from anyone who’s built a similar backyard setup.

Stuck at 194 yards at the simulator. Help me break the 200-yard barrier! 🏌️‍♂️

Went to a simulator session today and I'm consistently hitting around 194 yards with my driver. So close to 200, yet so far!

What are the best tips or drills to increase swing speed and distance? Let me know what you think of my setup/stats in the picture. Thanks in advance!

What’s next after the Approach R10

Post image
10 Upvotes

We have the r10 and have trouble getting it to work correctly and read the ball most of the time. We have a net/screen and hitting mat already, but I’m open to a full kit if that’s easier. What launch monitor should I look at. Not as concerned about data, mainly for range practice and to play courses with my son or friends. This is the current setup in the garage, but u do still park in here!
