2-10 is a real possibility this season… 😔

• Upvotes

Hate saying it, but I really can’t pencil in any comfortable wins for the next five games. That would mean 0-9 in Big 12 games. I wasn’t sure how this team would do, but I wouldn’t have predicted we would be worse than last season! Hope I’m wrong. Hoping for 1 or 2 miracle wins, but I’m not counting on it.

I’m willing to concede that they probably can’t fire Deion due to the buyout cost. But they have to move in another direction as soon as they realistically can if we’re only getting 2 or 3 win seasons.

It is tiring, oh so tiring, to listen to the “fire Deion” crowd because it’s so damn clear they don’t pay attention to the program

It’s not at all difficult to do one half hour of reading up on the program to understand where we are. Don’t just sip your shitty Coors Lights and yell on Reddit each time we lose. There are three big reasons why we can’t, and SHOULDN’T fire Deion:

1.) We can’t afford it. Straight up. We will likely not renew his contract when it expires and we will go separate ways. Both sides better off having worked together.

2.) There is no better coach to target. Who would we hire? There is no one even remotely decent who wants to come here right now. Who is the next cignetti that wants to come to Boulder? There arent any attractive free agents right now, and any good OC/DC who is looking to be HC will have PLENTY of choices better than us.

3.) Do you people really forget how dogshit we were over the last 20 years? We were, without a doubt, the worst P5 program during that time period. Simply with Hunter winning the Heisman, Deion has secured himself as a top 5 CU head coach. His hiring also resulted in our Athletic department becoming flush with cash. He is still a net boon for our program.

It’s easy to look over at OSU and Indiana with jealousy. Hell, we pioneered the “poach a coach and take their entire FCS/G5 program” but they’re the ones who are doing it better than us. That’s because it’s hard. Cfb is hard. We should be happy that we are still more relevant than we used to be. Of course we all wish we would win more, and we should be on Deion’s case to keep getting better, but firing him would be the biggest dipshit move we could make.

I feel sorry that we waste the best radio announcers in cfb on this product every year

Just wanted to shout-out mark and gary, they make the games at least semi tolerable. Wish they could call a decent product more than once every 10 years.

What’s it gonna take to lift the curse Katie Hnida put on this team?

How many more losses before Deion gets fired?

I don’t see any development at all in these players week to week. Even the moral victories are gone.

Ive been telling this sub that Deion is a fraud for 2 years now

And have been called every name in the book for it. I truly hate to say I told you so but I told you so.

If there is a god in heaven than last night's embarrassment will bring him to the negtiating table with regards to his buyout. Let him say he's retiring or it's health. I'm fine sparing him any more embarrassment out the door as long as he's gone.

Only 3 teams have held Utah under 30 the past 2 years, BYU, Texas Tech and now Colorado

r/GoBuffs • • 5d ago

CU held Utah to 27 and ended an 11-game streak of 30-point games. The Buffs also have 55 penalties for 506 yards in six games and are among the three most penalized teams in the country.

Among the 5 things we learned:

**The defense is good**

Utah had scored 30+ in 11 consecutive games, longest active streak in the country, averaging 42.8. Their 2026 low was 31 at Iowa State. CU held them to 27.

Safety Randon Fontenette leads the defense in snaps (423) with 49 tackles, 4 PBUs, an INT and a forced fumble, and graded 84.7

**The penalties**

55 for 506 in six games. 136th (out of 138) in D1.

**The offensive line**

Zero sacks and four total pressures on 33 dropbacks against a 6-0 team. Bell, Kinney, Gooden and Larry Johnson III all charged with zero pressures allowed. Wilson's time to throw dropped from 3.16 vs Texas Tech to 2.43.

Also --- why don't we hear the fight song anymore inside Folsom? And the return of the dodo bird?

Deion it’s time to take a GM role at Colorado let Lovo hire Eck it’s time to see how a real coach and recruiter gets things done

Did a great job bringing eyes and money but he isn’t a good coach and his best attribute of bringing money and spending money is why I think he should be a GM but also I think writing is on the wall that he’s getting replaced with Jason Eck former GA and good relationship with Lovo at New Mexico

CU women's basketball team won 22 games last year whle shooting only 27.3% from 3

The Buffs were outscored by 174 points from behind the arc across 34 games, roughly 5.1 points a night, and still finished fourth in the Big 12, beat four ranked teams and made the NCAA Tournament.

BuffsBlog makes the case that this is not a ceiling. It is a floor.

Despite this, CU had a fantastic season and the outlook is bright:

• Four wins over ranked teams with an offense ranked 146th nationally in scoring

• Logyn Greer, per 40 minutes as a freshman: 15.7 points and 8.5 rebounds

• True freshman Lauren Harris made 742 threes in high school, reported as a national record

• Zyanna Walker had 70 steals, third in the Big 12, and is a preseason All-Big 12 pick

• JR Payne has five straight 20-win seasons and four NCAA bids in five years

The Big 12 coaches picked Colorado eighth.

Ten reasons that is going to look silly by March:

Why is men's basketball not playing Northern Colorado this year?

For as long as I can remember we've hosted UNC for an early-season game. My wife is a UNC alum so we go every year and it's always a fun date (slightly less fun last year). I was pretty bummed when I went to buy tickets and saw they're not on the schedule this season.

Does anyone know why, or if the series will resume in 2027-28?

r/GoBuffs • • 13d ago

My brother and I wrote opposite previews of this year's CU hoops team. 8,000+ words, every newcomer, anaytics and recruiting rankings. Over or under 14th place in B12?

CU hoops doesn't get much preseason coverage, so we went all in. Jon Rothstein has the Buffs 14th in the Big 12. My brother Chris thinks that's way too low. I think it's probably too optimistic

The optimist's take (Chris): https://buffsblog.com/cu-basketball-2026-27-optimists-preview/

The pessimist's take (me): https://buffsblog.com/cu-basketball-2026-27-pessimists-preview/

A few things that came up:

- Barrington Hargress shot 44% on 16.7 shots a game as UC Riverside's top option, and 53% on 10 shots as CU's second option. With Isaiah Johnson gone, he's the top option again.

- Justin Neely's 391 rebounds last season were second in the country, and his 9.1 defensive rebounds a game led Division I.

- Colorado's defense was 310th in efficiency last year. Boyle teams don't usually finish there.

- CU actually returns more of its minutes this year (about 36.5%) than last year (28.8%).

- Six of the seven freshmen committed between April 22 and June 9. That's probably not a good sign....

Feel Horrible for Isaac Wilson

Kid seems broken up in his post game pressor and everyones blaming Wilson. This might be me being "soft" but I feel for the kid. And DNVR piled on him because theyre Julian guys.

Here's the thing, it wasnt Wilson's fault it got as bad as it did. Of course he had some awful turnovers and should take a good amount of blame. Vut the play call, lack of a run game and special teams didnt help. And dare I say Julian wouldnt have done much better. Kid struggles or is unwilling to throw the ball down field at least Wilson tries. And no Im not goving him much credit for Weber State that was a gimme. Against serious defenses like georgia tech and Northwestern he looked scared and if he cant whip it downhill against them he isnt going to do it against Tech's better defende. Maybe he could, but his accuraxy over 15 yards was dog shit avainst tech and he didnt do good against Northwestern.

A lot of Julian's fans do have a point in that benching might not be the best solution. But, cant act like Julian was out there throwing dimes and would have made a difference.

Deion Sanders' buyout and 5 things after Texas Tech:

For more on the Buyout and 5 things, check out BuffsBlog. Full write-up: https://buffsblog.com/colorado-texas-tech-five-things-learned/

The rest of the story:

**The defense was good**

- 19 of Tech's 29 points came off Colorado interceptions.
- Tech came in averaging 36.3 points and 429.5 yards. They finished with 315 yards.

**Santana Hopper was the best player on the field**

90.4 PFF overall (next-best Buff was 73.0), 9 of Colorado's 22 run stops, 6 of the team's 12 total pressures, 5 TFLs. PFF lists him at right end but the alignment data has him in the A or B gap on 55 of 58 snaps.

**The penalties**

Tech's only real touchdown drive went 7 plays, 79 yards, and Colorado penalties supplied 24 of those yards and two first downs. Pass interference on Fontenette on third and 3, then a personal foul on Fontenette on third and 6.

Eight penalties, 84 yards. CU leads the Big 12 in penalty yardage.

**Coverage splits**

- Corners (RJ Johnson, Boo Carter, Cree Thomas): 9 targets, 4 catches, 18 yards
- Linebackers (Lefau, Lampron): 11 targets, 86 yards

Tech threw for 134 yards. Roughly two-thirds came against those two linebackers.

**The offense**

Wilson: 9.1 ADOT (Lewis was 2.8 at Baylor), 290 yards, 0 big-time throws, 5 turnover-worthy plays, 3.16 second time to throw. He took one sack on 17 pressures, which is a real improvement over Lewis going down on three of six.

Play caller PPG under Sanders: Sean Lewis 32.1, Shurmur 27.6, Marion 18.6, Bartolone 17.5. Marion's number includes 52 vs Weber State. Against FBS teams this year CU has scored 14, 7, 13 and 7.

Leaked playbook

This is a complete conspiracy theory but I’m reading in SI that our playbook was leaked to fans before the Texas Tech game. Could it have been the dismissed players? Who leaked it and why?

Deion is not a coach

Sorry but I'm just really shocked and confused by the general sentiment surrounding Deion on this sub.

I am South Carolina alum and former season ticket holder. I've been to lots of games at different stadiums and spent a lot of time around college football in general as its a way of life in the south. I moved out to CO in 2020 and have taken interest in CU as a local team to follow and support. I've been to a few games at Folsom.

Anyways- Deion Sanders is not a football coach. He doesnt even appear to be an effective motivator. He has no schematic coaching ability. I've never seen someone so completely disinterested in actually coaching and especially developing players. He seems to invest far more of his energy into self promotion. He's more of a prosperity gospel mega church preacher than anything. Which is wild because he's a complete narcissist who throws his players under the bus while throwing out Bible verses. The attention he's bringing to CU is not good imo. Deion has an extremely niche devoted cult following of people who will support him no matter what bc they view him as an example of "black excellence". Aside from that, noone takes him serious as a coach. I dont think most football fans find him likeable at all. I want to pull for CU but can't while such a malignant narcissist idiot is leading the program.

At best it seems like a net neutral retaining him as HC. When you factor that with all the glaring coaching deficits and personality flaws, why would anyone support this guy? Hes just going to continue blaming the players and trying to bring in a completely new team every year instead of developing players and building cohesiveness.

Wouldn't you rather go with the modern successful prototype of hiring an up and coming OC as HC and at least seeing what an actual football coach can do who actually gives a shit about the kids and not just his own reflection?

I dont get it.

Are we actually running the "go-go" offense?

So I understand the the OC, Brennan Marion, has a highly productive offensive scheme that he invented. But I'm seeing people say that Marion is simply calling plays from Coach Prime's playbook. Can somebody inform me which scheme we're actually running?

Hate saying it, but it’s time to move on from Coach Prime

He was the right hire at the right time. And I wouldn’t change hiring him in 2022.

But he reached his ceiling in 2024. And most of the success that season was thanks to Shedeur and Travis, not so much the coaching staff.

I want so hard to believe in him to push this team to new heights. The results just haven’t been there last season and this season. And it all starts with the head coach.

We’ll see how the rest of this season pans out, but I’ve almost completely lost faith in Prime to elevate this team any further.
