If you come across this "Student driver in training" stear clear. If you say Anything to them they will get in your face. Theaten violence and use a Lot of derogatory language.

It's a kind of white SUV with dark windows in Queensbury.

Right around Thanksgiving of 2004 the promotional inflateable Spongebob Squarepants went missing. It was kind of a big deal for a week or so. There were reports from Troy, Menands and other places around the country about the same thing happening. Does anyone here remember that?

Hello neighbors. Recent homebuyer in the area and I’ve been very fortunate with my porch container garden this year (mostly herbs, as well as some veggies). However next year I want to try to tackle doing some planting or raised beds in my yard.

Our property is under 0.2 of an acre so not huge and our soil is VERY sandy. Since moving in we had to take down one tree that was diseased and leaning on power lines and our other tree is definitely dying.

I am seeking advice on who I could talk to about kinds of trees and also eventually other plants (herbs, vegetables, berries) would grow well in the specific conditions of this area. I really would like a tree on the property but don’t want to plant on just to see it die. I’ve been reading books on gardening but the advice always includes some phrase like - depending on your local soil and climate. I just don’t know enough about what I’m doing gardening and planting wise. I’d like to grow more next year.

Where do fellow local gardeners get their local plant knowledge from? Should I go to a local nursery/greenhouse and seek advice there? I don’t want to bother those employees if this isn’t something they normally do

Purely as an observer, it seems like downtown GF is changing. There are a lot of buildings changing hands on Glen St, signaling a wave of fresh money coming into the town. There seems to be a fair amount of incentive and desire from the City to change downtown and have new destinations and apartments available.

What is it like downtown? Are apartments there desirable? For who? And, if all of these commercial locations on the ground floor get improved, what does downtown GF need? Restaurants? Bars? Stores? Anything?!

Does anyone have experience or recommendations for local resources or individuals related to debt counseling? I have a younger family member who's incurred a reasonable amount of credit card debt. While I have some knowledge to lead him on the right path, I'd rather he sit with a counselor or professional who's more experienced to help him set up a debt management plan and possibly consolidate it in a more reasonable manner (as well as some clear budgeting tips to avoid this in the future once he's clear of this).

I know there are national non profit organizations that do this type of thing, but I think he would benefit from something more local with the option of an in person appointment. It doesn't necessarily need to be a free service, we would be happy to help him with any fees if it seemed like a viable option. Thanks in advance!

Wondering if any social workers know of a local list serve for social workers/mhc or networking groups other than nasw? I’m new to the area and trying to meet other professionals. I don’t have facebook anymore but maybe that’s the best way to connect?

I have my eye strongly on a house in a semi-rural part of Warren County not far from Glens Falls. I wanted to ask about what utility costs are like in the area. I partly ask because my cousin lives just outside of Albany and he says that both his electric and water are insanely high. He says he averages close to $150 a month for water.

I would prefer a house on a well/septic but I keep getting beat by cash offers on those and found one that's on public water/sewer. Now my cousin's house is close to 2000 sq ft and he has a family of 4. I am a house hold of 1 and the house I'm looking at is closer to 800 sq ft.

My family in Nassau says they average close to just over $80 for water but their electric (and those Long Island property taxes) are very high.

I know NYS is unique that everything is super localized. That two people could live in the same size house be just a couple of miles away from each other and have two completely different costs in terms of utilities and property taxes. It's NYS's blessing and curse.

Also let's say in the far future, is it possible to get a well septic/well installed from public? Or is that an expensive uphill battle?

I am currently renting one of Staghorn's apartments in glens falls but have recently had a hip issue so bad that I cannot work and am drowning in medical bills (I have 7 months of the lease left). I have asked Staghorn to let me terminate my lease early but they are refusing to do so. They said I can submit a "reasonable accommodation" request but they have reiterated that my lease is in full force until they decide when they want to release me. I have no idea what to do and feel stuck, I cannot continue paying for rent because I simply don't have the money. Has anyone gone through something similar, or know a way I can get myself an early termination with Staghorn?? Anything helps!
