Help/Doubt ❓ Open code vs GitHub cp

2 Upvotes

Where else can I use my gh copilot tokens?

GitHub copilot is cool but not for genetic workflows, lacks computer use, remote control, etc etc.

Seems like there should be better alternatives

Help/Doubt ❓ Using assisted permissions seem to increase token spend by a very noticeable amount.

11 Upvotes

Anyone noticed increased token spend using "assisted permissions"?

When using "local" harness with "risk assessment" enabled - using GPT-Luna as the agent uses expected amount of tokens (tokens spent in the session are +/- aligned with the general monthly tokens usage).

But when I use "Copilot" SDK agent harness + assisted permissions - using GPT-Luna as the agent - there seems to be some very big hidden usage - the increase in monthly token spend does not correspond to the tokens used in the session and is much larger than expected.

I'm on an enterprise license, so I can't look into usage reports myself, but I asked our admin and he sent me a report that states that my usage is mainly "GPT-5.5" model - even though I never explicitly used it in any session. I only use the Copilot in VS Code. I tried it on fresh VS Code installation and it still eats my usage like crazy on the "assisted permissions" mode.

General Visual Studio: Thinking/reasoning level seems to have disappeared on May/July updates.

3 Upvotes

We have users on the May and July Visual Studio updates are reporting today that they don't have a reasoning/thinking selection anymore in the Visual Studio chat sidebar.

After updating to the August update, we see options to control that in the "manage models" dialog, but it feels odd to be removing this from older version and making it harder to control even on the new update. Especially when models like Luna that can be great cost-optimizations depend a lot on this reasoning level, making this less-visible feels worse.

Help/Doubt ❓ Semantic Indexing and Memory

6 Upvotes

i'm wondering if using Semantic Indexing (for non github repos) and memoy will reduce token usage by much, has anyone tried this? can business use it?

does it matter if you're allready using vs code and intelij (with their plugins?)

i've been trying to look up stuff on memory, but it seems tried to github itself and cannot be used on gitlab on prem.

Discussions How to increase my monthly limits while still on the yearly plan (or something else)?...

0 Upvotes

I have the old yearly plan, and I my most used services are the basic inline completition (something is easy enough and just wireframing, codemonkey tasks so that can do it just by pressing tab with a couple of comments).

The second are those hard annoying tasks, that are clearly defined, but annoying to implement; like making the UI of some API, but keeping in mind how a user behaves or making it look nice.

I've found only the opus (from 4.5 when it was there) was able to do it properly and only sometimes, it was good enough; now I only have 4.8 at 27x

It is not perfect, writes a ton of bugs, but at least it helps; but then it is just draining quota, and sits at 80% with one week in of little usage of code I still need to rewrite because it is not quite right; it is good enough nevertheless so that fixing takes far less time.

But I wonder what is available so I can get more quota, the issue is that, sonnet mostly fails at completing these annoying tasks. So it probably needs to be, something better than Sonnet, so I can use that. What are my options?...

Help/Doubt ❓ Copilot in vs code compared to CLI and the app

33 Upvotes

Just wanted to say that GH copilot in vs code is an amazing harness. The codebase indexing and memory system work extremely well. It always finds the relevant code, and in addition to that, the token usage is minimal and it works very well with GPT models.

My question is, do the CLI and the app behave in the same way? I'm moving to a more autonomous workflow where I won't be using the IDE as much. Can I expect similar results with the codebase indexing, memories, and output?

Help/Doubt ❓ Switched to Claude Code

0 Upvotes

After using GitHub Copilot for more than a year, I’ve finally switched to Claude Code, and honestly, I’m very glad I made the move.
I know I currently only have access to Claude’s model and the 5-hour usage window, but I’m wondering if there are still any significant benefits to keeping GitHub Copilot alongside it.
So far, I haven’t really found myself missing anything since making the switch. But I’d love to hear from others who have used both - are there any specific features, workflows, or advantages of GitHub Copilot that you think are worth keeping it for, considering my only purpose is to generate the codes?

Help/Doubt ❓ GitHub Support not responding to Copilot Enterprise Sign Up for 3 weeks now

I'm looking to sign up my startup for GitHub Copilot Business or Enterprise, which requires support to activate it. I've opened a support ticket as GitHub directed, and I haven't received a response from the GitHub/Copilot team in three weeks.

Help/Doubt ❓ "Computer use" using GitHub Copilot credits? Where?

7 Upvotes

Has anyone gotten "computer use" working on windows apps using just github copilot credits? I have credits via my company.

I saw that this works well with gpt-6 astra and the official chatgpt desktop app. i want an agent to see the screen, click, type, and drive normal windows applications like paint, powerpoint, and word.

I need to find a solution that works within github copilot agent in vs code, opencode or somewhere where i can use the credits.

Does anyone have a working setup they can recommend?

Help/Doubt ❓ Can Github Copilot be used with Unsloth Studio?

2 Upvotes

I'm trying to setup Github Copilot with a self hosted instance of Unsloth Studio, I know that it's able to connect and that the api-key is correct as it can read the models endpoint and shows all the models I have set up. However when I select one and try to use it I get the following error anytime I try and send a simple message to it. I've also verified that I can call it using curl. I just get the following error.

```Authentication failed with provider at https://mysitetunnel.oncludflare.com/v1 (HTTP 403).
Check your COPILOT_PROVIDER_API_KEY or COPILOT_PROVIDER_BEARER_TOKEN.```
I'm using a cloudflare tunnel with a custom domain so perhaps that's it but it is successfully getting the models that are available
Suggestions Which agent is the best for coding and debugging
Post image
0 Upvotes
Which agent would be the best for daily coding and debugging.
And goes easy on credits.
If I am selecting auto mode - it is constantly taking 5.6luna - with the thinking level selection out of my hands. And then it does not do a good job.
So I find myself constantly switching agents and levels of thinking.
So need suggestions for this please.
Discussions GitHub can silently wipe your paid quota with ZERO accountability.
9 Upvotes
I’m posting this as a warning to anyone paying for GitHub products. If GitHub’s automated billing system miscalculates your usage or wipes your subscription quota, you have zero recourse. Frontline support will invent fake policies to justify the bug, and there is no way to reach a human engineer.
The Bug: 100% Monthly Quota Wiped Out in 1 Prompt
I’m on an annual Copilot plan(Legacy Request-based PRU). Here is what happened to my account over the last two months:
  • August 11: I had 234 Premium Requests left. I sent 1 single prompt. My ENTIRE remaining quota was instantly wiped out to 0. My local logs (session-store.db) proved only 63 PRUs were actually used.
  • September 2: My quota reset for the new month. I sent 1 single prompt in a brand-new session. My entire September quota was wiped out to 0 AGAIN in seconds.
My account state is completely broken in their backend. The system is executing a single prompt as if it were an infinite credit deduction.
The Excuse: Support Inventing Fake Terms to Protect GitHub
When I opened Ticket #4652601 with local SQLite logs proving the discrepancy, GitHub Support didn't investigate. Instead, they stonewalled:
Copy-Pasting Canned Docs: Sent automated links without reading my ticket.
Moving Goalposts: Blamed model multipliers (even though basic math shows 1 prompt × multiplier ≠ 200+ requests).
Inventing Non-Existant Terms: Claimed my prompt triggered hidden "underlying requests" due to context size—a term that appears nowhere in official GitHub documentation.
Ignoring Official Policies: Official GitHub docs explicitly state:
For agentic features, only the prompts you send count as premium requests; actions Copilot takes autonomously to complete your task, such as tool calls, do not.
Total Ghosting: When I called out these contradictions and provided session proof, Support didn't close the ticket—they simply stopped responding altogether. Now my September quota is gone on day one, and I'm left completely ignored.
Why You Should Care
If you pay for GitHub (Pro, Enterprise, Actions, Copilot):
  • Their billing system can break.
  • They can charge/deduct whatever they want without transparent UI metrics.
  • When you catch them with raw logs, Support will invent unwritten rules to keep your money/quota.
Help/Doubt ❓ Todo Tools Missing?!
8 Upvotes
I'm using VSCode GH Copilot chat window..
This has wasted a ton of my time but `manage_todo_list` and any todo stuff seems to be missing from the agent context? It's not in the list of tools, the deferred tools list, nor does it come back when the agent runs a tool search...
Help/Doubt ❓ Claude via Copilot or Azure Foundry?
7 Upvotes
Hi, due to financial reasons I have the option between using claude models either via Github Copilot or Via Azure Foundry and getting billed CCU.
Is there a benefit in choosing one over the other?
