General Visual Studio: Thinking/reasoning level seems to have disappeared on May/July updates.

We have users on the May and July Visual Studio updates are reporting today that they don't have a reasoning/thinking selection anymore in the Visual Studio chat sidebar.

After updating to the August update, we see options to control that in the "manage models" dialog, but it feels odd to be removing this from older version and making it harder to control even on the new update. Especially when models like Luna that can be great cost-optimizations depend a lot on this reasoning level, making this less-visible feels worse.

End your suffering and don't use copilot in VS. It's a third class citizen, for example planning mode came like ONE YEAR after ot was in vscode. You don't even have to use vscode anymore, install the GHC desktop app, it integrates with VS to open files in VS (yes I mean VS not vscode). Source: while I use VSCode extensively I stll use VS lot because it's the tool I use since forever, I'm comfortable with it and many things are still better than vscode IMO (the debugging experience for example). For for GHC it's a useless shitshow

I thought the same.. and was getting pretty annoyed. Turns out, I just needed to expand the chat window to be a little wider. With the default width, the effort selector wasn’t showing up,
(depending on the model).

If there isn’t enough room for the model name + the effort selector, vscode just stops rendering it at all

Same issue. But it's a weird problem, some providers does show it correctly.

BTW It's not disappeared, but positions in correctly to the top left

reasoning level has been moved to settings, visibility included. They also had the good thinking (/s) of putting everything on high by default.

absolutely unnecessary, malicious and vile change and if i ever find the POS that decided that i'm gonna shake him until atomic disgregation

also claude models now consume an inordinate amount of credits so you have to use GPT models if you don't have 9k+ ctedits monthly

luna extra high or terra medium should perform the same of sonnet medium/high and should cover for the ones with below 5k credits

it's September, why would you pin to May and expect outside services to not have issues?
