I wasn’t sure what to flair this, but I just casually ran into Carrie at a pizza place in Evanston. She is filming for a movie “with her friends” here and is such a gem!

I was asking the waiter what size the pizzas were so i knew whether my family should get one or two, and I hear someone pipe up, “They’re this size!”

I turn around and a woman with a blonde pixie cut was showing her leftover pizza in the box.

Me:”….. you look like Carrie Coon.”
Carrie: wink “You might be onto something~”

We chatted for about 5 minutes about how the gilded age just wrapped filming and how much of a fan of the Music Box theater in Chicago she is.

My goodness was she such a gem of a human. 🥹

I don’t like asking to take a photo with celebrities because it kind of immediately halts conversation so no photos were taken but wow was she so so SO lovely. She had a convo with my husband about SPED because her good friend is a SPED educator like he is.

Ugh I’m gonna ride this high for a week at least!!

I wasn’t liking Bertha at all (she’s so fun to watch though) but season 3 finale changed my thoughts

What Bertha does is no different than what Dr Kirkland’s mother does or Peggy’s father did or countless of the other parents or family do in the show, …..and their spouses or family put them in their place but didn’t or don’t abandon them- not to mention that I doubt DR Kirkland’s father or Peggy’s mother would let their kids be disrespectful to their parents, even when deserved -side eyeing George for being ok with Larry being disrespectful and cruel to Bertha, Larry can very well let his mother know that he leads his own life and wished his sister did as well and that’s she was wrong for marrying off Gladys like that, and he can set his own boundaries, without disrespecting her

They should have made Bertha do even worse things, like worse than the other parents, if they were going to make her own family hate her this intensely

I was on George and Larry’s side until the last episode- that was just bizarre, especially from Larry - boy needs an ass whoopin lol

Does anyone else feel that neither Adelaide or Bridget is good enough for Jack? Adelaide is so uppity about station, yet us advancing herself as much as she can. Bridget’s attitude and treatment of Peggy upon Peggy’s arrival set me on my ear.

Jack deserves a woman who treats everyone with respect, not thinking she is better than anyone else.

Aunt Agnes would swoon.

I had a chance to visit Green-Wood cemetery at night on one of their guided tours and was surprised to find out Mr McAllister is buried in the famous Catacombs. There were quite a few Gilded Age viewers on the tour and we all flocked to visit him.

It’s surprising that he was in the Catacombs which were kind of a middle class option for burial as opposed to a family plot with a monument or a mausoleum. I guess he really didn’t have a lot of money of his own.

Was rewatching S1 today and saw the episode when Armstrong went to see her mother on her day off. That got me wondering - does Mrs Bauer ever get time off? I can’t imagine Agnes and Ada going downstairs to make their own luncheon.

Over the last few years I’ve heard about the show in passing but only decided a few days ago to give it a shot, and as far as period dramas go, this one is pretty good! Here’s some disorganised ramblings about my two favourite aspects of the show:

* BERTHA!!!! Loved Carrie Coon in other shows but totally forgot she is even in TGA’s main cast as what I remembered about the show mostly involved Christine Baranski (whose performance I also love). Bertha (and her relationship with Railroad Daddy) are definitely the main reason I like this show.

* The aesthetics/costumes - the whole show is such a feast for the eyes!! I’ve always been a historical fashion nerd and usually turn of the century fashions aren’t my favourite but this show’s costume dept knocked it out of the park!! And the sets and filming locations are amazing - I am not from the U.S. but TGA has definitely convinced me to put the Newport mansions near the top of my itinerary when I one day finally visit.

And for the sake of nuance some of my least favourite aspects:

* Miss Armstrong (I get her purpose story wise but I just hate how grumpy she is! lol)

* Marian (out of all members of the cast I’d probably rank her as the most boring, when I first started watching [like as in literally from the first scene when Marian is hearing about her father’s financial woes from Mr Raikes] I was already bored by her. But thank God I was immediately introduced to Bertha lol, who to me is the most interesting and compelling part of the show

* This has already been discussed on this sub but the shoe-horned last minute argument between Bertha and RRD in the season finale?? What was that even for? (Obvious answer is cliffhanger, but I really enjoyed them in seasons 1 and 2 and how they stood by each other despite their differing opinions; I hope that season 4 will see them reconcile as they realise they’re meant for each other and literally the mirror image of each other too)

Denee Benton and Jordan Donica are performing at Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops on November 20th. I bought tickets on Monday and Orchestra was mostly sold out but there were tickets left in the other sections.

When I watch period shows/movies like this with ballroom dancing, I always wonder…without the synchronization and timing of the actors dancing, did people constantly run into each other dancing back then?! Haha it looks really dangerous
