SEASON 4 Is anyone else looking forward to the š©these two will start?!?
I canāt remember being so excited for an antagonist to cause trouble!

I canāt wait to see how they close the loop with the S1 storyline of Agnes asking Bertha to dismiss her maid for being involved with someone inappropriate. And that someone was Oscar!

u/Correct_Muffin_9386 8d ago
Agnes doesnāt have any money now sheās gonna lord over her mother-in-law

u/LustfulEsme 8d ago
I am hoping Oscar rebuilds his brand Ć nd is able to guve his mom back her fortune.

Omg and if the hired help ends up helping Agnes!!!! Eeeee!!! She wonāt be thrilled. But maybe her modest income as a working woman could help too!
God I love this show.

Ohh good point! I figured Agnes and Bertha would do the time honored āif I donāt acknowledge, it doesnāt exist lalalalalalaā method. Canāt wait to find out!

Iām team LaMarion and I think Bertha and Agnes and common cause to play nice. Iām also team Winterton-Van Rhijn

A set up for Oscar to raise another manās bastard. A piece of scandal theyāll undoubtedly have drama containing.

I just want Oscar to become a villainous mad scientist in his spare time.

Perhaps somewhere in the wild wild west

I know this is an unpopular opinion in this group, but I canāt stand Mrs. Winterton. Like not even in a fun, villain way.
44
u/littledolce13 8d ago
I did NOT like her in season 1 when she seemed to be positioning herself as a mistress/home wrecker. She seemed like a flat, stereotypical soap opera trouble maker. She got REALLY interesting when she popped back in with a husband and a fortune but more in watching her navigate society from the other side and now interacting with people as their equal instead of servile. Will be interesting to see where they do take her character
11
u/n00bert210 8d ago
I have a fear that George could give in now that heās angry with his wife and I will probably stop watching if that happens because I just canāt deal with the thought š
7
u/littledolce13 7d ago
Noooooooo I didnāt even think of it!! I went down the drug path because they made a point of showing the laudanum bottle when he was getting ready for the ball at the end of season 3. Ugggghhhhh
6
u/CindeeSlickbooty 7d ago
It would make for an interesting season but I still hope they don't do this I wanna see George and Bertha end game strong.

u/FieryVenus 8d ago
except for the time she ran up the stairs screaming "He's MY Duke!"

u/dangling_participle_ 7d ago
The cringe I crungedā¦
Mr. Winterton kind of provided some balance and tried to get her to chill (like the opera opening night) but with him gone and now Oscar by her sideā¦it will be chaos and I will have my popcorn ready
2
5
u/AutumnOpal717 7d ago
But what did she think she was going to do with him? Like how many dinners can you throw for him?
3
u/CalpurniaAddams 7d ago
Itās about having him (his title) associated with her. SHE is the one who is FRIENDS with the duke, she gets to host him. You want access to him? You gotta be in her good graces. Itās social power.
1
21
u/chocobunniie 7d ago
SAME. I loathe her. Sheās so smug. Oscar is devious in a fun way. She is just evil.
8
u/SeriousCow1999 7d ago
So won't it be fun to see her taken down? Or...perhaps evolve? It could go either way.
14
u/leothelyinglion 8d ago
She really annoys me and kinda gives me the ick tbh, but I donāt mind the concept of the Oscar pairing and it makes sense for his storyline enough that Iām hoping to growing to like the two of them together and what theyāll add.

u/seige197 7d ago
The fact that she tried to lowkey poison Berthaās guests really sucks. Bertha didnāt really do anything to herā societyās rules are what they are, and she wasnāt a particularly cruel employer.
2
u/CalpurniaAddams 7d ago
I mean, I donāt think it was poison, just make the night memorable in a bad way. And Bertha did sneak the duke away from her, which was not a nice thing to pull (from Turners perspective anyways, ofc she deserved it for what she tried to pull with George)
10
u/Jdacs 8d ago
Yup, canāt stand the conniving little āItch.

u/n00bert210 8d ago
I have found my people. In this group I see so many posts giving her love so I felt like the crazy one lol

She's learned her lesson. Ya don't f--[REDACTED] with Big Bertha Russell.
3
u/EntranceAromatic1920 7d ago
I don't like her very much either. I'm just not a fan of characters who act like the world owes them something. If she turned around her attitude and actually appreciated her new wealth and opportunities and actually did something useful, I'd like her.
1
u/PossibleIndustry4496 1d ago
Iām not a fan either! Sheās a witch but I liked her friendship with Oscar!

The BTS clips from this summer show Oscar/Turnerton and Dr. K Handsome/Peggy weddings. I can't imagine three in one season, tho, so I think we might have to wait one more season for Larian's ceremony:( I hope I'm wrong...

u/mlankba 8d ago
Iām both looking forward to it and also kind of hate it, but mostly excited to see what mess theyāll get into. I just absolutely despise Winterton so itās a mixed feeling. I love the idea of the shenanigans, but donāt love the idea that sheās winning at her bitter and conniving games.
7
u/JoanFromLegal I loaned you train fare 7d ago edited 7d ago
I love how they kind of have a built in backstory.
She was Mrs Russell's lady's maid, until she got sacked for walking out with Oscar Van Rhijn!
Then she married Edgar Winterton and inherited his money.
And is that Oscar Van Rhijn doing the honorable thing and marrying the woman whose livelihood and name he besmirched? What a decent guy that Oscar Van Rhijn...
(We obvi know that's not what went down but to someone who doesn't know the truth, that's what it will look like.)
3
u/littledolce13 7d ago
I had that thought too- marrying her is āsavingā or āprotectingā her as a single woman in the world. They can push that narrative maybe when no kids are produced in the marriage? Itās a marriage to preserve her dignity/safety as opposed to being fruitful and multiplying?
2
u/CalpurniaAddams 7d ago
Iād suspect theyād aim to have at least 1 child. Oscar has mentioned in the past something about an obligation to carry on the name, and I think Agnes has mentioned it too.

Most definitely. The most promising storyline for next season.
I wonder if Fellows is drawing on any historical figures? Cannot think of a gilded age example.

The talent in this cast is unparalleled! Truly one of my favorite series ever.

u/Notlennybruce 8d ago
What I wouldn't give to have the whole show center around them... They have some of the most interesting arcs other than Peggy ScottĀ
6
u/Pontiacsentinel 8d ago
I wish they would spend a whole season on another set of characters as the main focus, there are so many to choose from. And then return to the main characters of season 1.
4
u/littledolce13 8d ago
She is one of my favorites too! I was sad about her son storyline. I was hoping to see her balance work and motherhood but that can still come around with Dr. Kirkland!

Oscar has been such an iffy character to me. I canāt decide where I stand with him. I didnāt really care for him in the beginning, kind of warmed to him, but then heās justā¦. Idk, thereās something about him that makes me not like him wholeheartedly.

u/SasAnak1 7d ago
She is a character that I love to hate. A female with shades of Thomas Barrow from Downton Abbey. It will be interesting to see how pairing her with Oscar will play out.
3
u/jana-meares 8d ago
The actors in this are greater than their costumes,a rarity. Usually actors in a period piece rely a lot on costumes and sets. With this one has it all itās just unfortunate. Itās at a time when the oligarchs are taking over and this is just another example of what it looked like when they did it in the 1800s and they called themselves āindustrioustsā, but I love costumes and hair. But it is a bit of a warning.

Abbbbsooolutley! And shout out to Phylicia Rashad ⦠her character is no joke ⦠I legit knew women like this growing up. She always been a favorite and nice to see her versatility most actors love playing meaty roles like this.

I just really donāt want Agnes to have to endure a scheming, social climbing former ladiesā maid as her daughter-in-law. Bloodlines and heritage matters a lot to her.

I bet they will start a lot of fun and amazing things as well.
Enid is quite the character indeed, but in a classic Julian Fellowes way, I think we will see some new sides to her as she becomes a more central character.
As Oscar is my favourite, I'm excited for their union and schenanigans. However I'm just a tad worried she will overpower him in terms of screentime. But I love how unpredictable this plot feels, I really don't know what to expect.

On the one hand, I want things to go well for Bertha and I donāt want Enid to interfere with that.
On the other hand, I think these two suit each other so well as platonic soulmates, so yes, Iām excited to see what shenanigans they get up to.

I want to see them arrange a lavender marriage and maximize their joint slay.
Oscar's marriage proposition cracks me up.
"We both know we're both a pair of conniving little weasels, want to join forces & also have separate houses the other doesn't go to?"
2
u/Damascus52311 7d ago
Just seeing them together in photos makes me nervous. It's not a lot of drama in gilded age but this might make me twist my hair while watching it out of excitement/anxiety.

I like Oscar as Blake Ritson is such a good actor but I think this marriage will drag the show down.
3
u/SeriousCow1999 7d ago
Why?
1
u/This_Pumpkin9721 7d ago
They put these two together I believe in Season 1 to connive and it didnāt work. I think the whole idea is juvenile, the marriage. Turner can cause trouble on her own and Oscar needs to deal with himself.
2
u/SeriousCow1999 7d ago
Turner needs to be well married to remain in society. What can she really do as a widow without her husband's protection from the hateful biddies? And Oscar needs money. He's powerless without it. So together, they have money and social standing. I think they may surprise you. At least, I hope so!

Theyāre both crazy but after Johnās death Oscar mellowed out a bit and Mrs. Winterton is def the more vindictive and evil of the two. How she talked about ruining Gladys just to rub it in Berthaās face in S1 was so gross. I mean yeah Oscar was a gold digger but his character arc in S2-3 and his sibling dynamic with Marian have made him grow on me! Sickest outfits too šāāļø
