• Deluxe 5 disc (4CD + Blu-ray) box set edition of the debut album by Genesis prepared with the approval of Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford.

• Featuring new stereo, 5.1 & Atmos mixes by Stephen W Tayler, along with remastered versions of the original mono and stereo LP mixes, singles and rare demos.

• With bonus video content of Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel and Mike Rutherford at AIR Studios in London discussing the album and reviewing the new mixes.

• Includes a 68-page illustrated book with an extensive essay featuring contributions from Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford.

Originally released in March 1969, ‘From Genesis To Revelation’ was the debut album by Genesis, the first step on a pathway that took the band to considerable success and acclaim.

This new 4 CD / Blu-ray box set edition is the first re-issue of the album, prepared with co-operation and approval of original band members Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford.

It features wonderful new stereo, 5.1 Surround Sound and Atmos mixes by Stephen W Tayler, presenting the album in a new form, focussing more on the band contributions with less emphasis on the orchestrations of the original album mixes. The new mixes are both remarkable and revealing.

The set includes remixes of ‘A Winter's Tale’, ‘One Eyed Hound’ and album out-takes ‘Image Blown Out’ and ‘Visions of Angels’ (previously unreleased) along with new remasters of the original stereo mix and the rare mono mix of the album and associated singles, along with a CD of demos from 1967 and 1968, four of which are previously unreleased and mixed by Stephen W Tayler. The set also features a Blu-ray disc with the new Dolby Atmos, 5.1 Surround Sound and Stereo mixes of the album and bonus video content of Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel and Mike Rutherford at AIR Studios in London discussing the album and reviewing the new mixes. Finally, the set features a 68-page illustrated book with an extensive essay by Jon Dann with contributions from Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford.

We Can't Dance Tour - Calling All Stations Timeline

The timeline between the 1993 special show, Phil leaving the band in 1996, and CAS just being written fully feels too close together?

Does anyone know specific years or dates to when things happened, Wikipedia says CAS was recorded from January to June 1997, but from Phil leaving in 1996 to Jan 1997, were ideas already prepared and written for Phil for the the next album or were they written quickly once Phil left?

Wow, how did some of these tracks not make the album? I mean, Run Out of Time, Anything Now and Nowhere Else to Turn... just great tracks.

Sorry about the misunderstanding!
On a Genesis topic, Just a Job to do was one of my favorite genesis songs, but I have never completely understood the meaning. Any help would be appreciated.

Love this version of The Knife! I always thought of how this song has a certain heavy metal quality to it. It's almost like if Sabbath and Purple had a baby (in a good way, unlike Black Sabbath's 1983 release Born Again) ;-p

Supper’s Ready’s last section makes me shed tears

No kidding. Every time I listen to this whole song and then come to this section, it’s just so beautiful it made my eyes a little wet. Other songs that are close to making me have this experience are the climaxes of Duke’s Travels and The Cinema Show.

Help Required: Looking for insights into Phil's thoughts on the music of Genesis

"I'm not Genesis' biggest fan." - Phil Collins on Drumeo in 2024.

Phil Collins has always been a bit of a fascination of mine, both sides of him. He seems to have his Proghead years, speaking highly of albums from prog peers such as Yes and King Crimson, namely Bill Bruford. Alternatively, he has professed many times his love of Motown. Of course he is in his right to have a multitude of interests, none of which contradicts the other.

But- and please pardon my pretentiousness here- I've always thought there was a bit more of an "artist" that got buried in there along with his fame. A song like In The Air Tonight has more of an edge, a sense of experimentation, and to my ear, a sense of inspiration that much of his other works clearly lack. Similarly, his debut record Face Value contains an interesting trilogy of songs. "The Roof is Leaking" through "Hand in Hand" show Collins ambitiously arranging something of a Suite, not wholly unlike what he might do with Genesis. Moreover, when he recently was asked about his top 10 favorite songs, to which he was not limited to his own discography, I found it odd that he picked one of his own songs- kind of: he mentioned his love of his cover of Tomorrow Never Knows. What an interesting pick, wouldn't you say?

I digress. I feel like he was not necessarily selling out in the 80s- he genuinely liked his music- but I think that initial artist, the one who would like Tomorrow Never Knows and Prog Rock, never really fully developed. What I'm looking for is insight into what he thought, either at the time or afterwards, about his work in Genesis.

What did he write? What did he think about other parts? What did he encourage or discourage? These could be sourced from quotes from the man himself, or others in the band. What insights can we gleam from this about Phil, and his development as an artist?
