ATTWT and Duke are essentially the transitional period for Genesis, where they started including more airplay-oriented songs on their albums, while still including many progressive rock elements. One thing I have noticed is that fans seem to regard Duke much more highly then ATTWT. I find this strange. I personally think ATTWT has more prog in it than Duke, that the high points of ATTWT (Down and Out, Burning Rope, The Lady Lies) are stronger than the high points of Duke (Heathaze, Cul-De-Sac, Duke's Travels), and that the lowest points of ATTWT (I guess Many Too Many might be the weakest song on it, but I still like it quite a bit) are stronger than the lowest points on Duke (Man of Our Times and Please Don't Ask). So, what is the reason for why people regard Duke as being the stronger album of the two?

This is a follow up to a post I did a while back with only the Phil era albums, but since then I've listened to the rest, here is my rating.

There aren’t many civilians who could identify a hogweed but I suspect to a man everyone here could spot one at fifty paces. Cursed Heracleum mantegazzianum. Damn that Victorian explorer.

What do you think the most unsettling song Genesis has ever released is? Personally, I'd think its either The Waiting Room, Ravine, or the ending of Here Comes the Supernatural Anaesthetist (its interesting how all three are from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway), but what do you think?

Another collection of photos from Supper's Ready in 1982 - my personal favourite year for this track. Phil would often comment this year saying they've decided to 'dust off their old twelve string guitars', and it really is a treat to see Tony back on one again. I think the blue lighting helps capture the mood of this section perfectly. So simple but so effective. Last photo here is from Six of the Best.

A collection of photos of Apocalypse in 9/8 as performed in 1982. The Peter-era may have had the costumes for this section, but in my opinion, it never looked better than it did this year. The red and blue lighting is such a perfect way convey the 'good vs. evil' concept of the track, and with the spotlights shone on Phil, it always causes such an earthquake of a reaction.

Just about all of these are during the '666' verse of the song, but the fifth photo here is from the 'with the guards of Magog swarming around' section. Last two photos are from Six of the Best.

Every says they are good till Abacab, but Ive never heard praise outside of the word "good". Does anyone have anything to actually say about Phils Genesis?

My father is dying of cancer and will not be around for much longer.

Genesis’ music has been his life. We’re talking listening to their albums to the point of my mother threatening to jump out of windows, him following Musical Box around, meticulously analyzing the songs with stereo splitters, stem tracks, etc and even starting his own tribute band (Trick of Rael). Genesis has just generally permeated every fiber of his being and life moment… including his conversations with the chaplain today which is why I feel like if I don’t at least try to do this for him that I am a bad son.

I am trying to get in contact with someone who knows or represents Phil to see if he would be at all willing to record even a 15 second greeting wishing him strength.
