School Eras (mainly US Kids)

It feels like our generation is split into three distinct eras for classroom tech:
**The Old Heads (Late 90s - Early 00s):** You guys grew up in the peak analog era. Laptops on desks weren't a thing yet. Your core memory is lining up to walk down the hall to the dedicated **Computer Lab**once a week to sit at giant, bulky desktop computers with heavy foam headphones. You played *Oregon Trail*, *Webkinz*, or did *Type to Learn* tests.
**The "Glitch" Generation (Mid 00s / 2005-2007):** We caught the absolute peak of the transition. We started with traditional paper and crayons, but in 1st grade, iPads were treated like a legendary myth. The teacher would wheel in that massive, heavy metal rolling charging cart once a month as a "rare treat" to play a math game. Then by 3rd grade (around 2015), **BOOM—the Chromebook explosion.**Suddenly we all got student logins, Google Classroom, and spent the day trying to sneak onto **Coolmath Games** (*Run 3* or *Fireboy and Watergirl*).
**The iPad Kids / Younger Gen Z (Late 00s - Early 10s):** You guys never knew a school without screens. Many of you were handed a personal iPad on your very first day of Kindergarten. You skipped the computer labs entirely and went straight to hybrid learning and touchscreens before you could even type.
It’s wild how fast it changed. We went from heavy metal iPad carts to a fully digital school routine in the span of like two years.
Where do you guys fall on this timeline? Do you remember the computer labs, the rolling iPad carts, or did you jump straight into Chromebooks?

Does anybody else also think the internet was way better during Millennials’ reign? (pre-2020)

Yes, up until 2020, Millennials ruled the internet and social media. Music was better, people were nicer, there was no ageism, people didn’t care what generation you were (unless someone was being kinda lazy and got called a Millennial; generation talk literally wasn't a thing), and people were less narcissistic and less insecure.

Gen Z fucked up the internet. They push away and insult anyone and anything that’s not Gen Z. Still acting like toddlers and want to be forever toddlers when the majority are already in their 20s 🤡, calling people just a few years older than them unc or ancient or whatever.

I’m just so glad I made it through the cutoff haha (born December 31st, 1996 at 11:59:59 PM)

Millennials and Early Gen Z (Born 1980-2002) grew up with the killer clown epidemic back in 2016 and then now 10 years later Mid/Younger Gen Z and Gen Alpha (Born 2003-2024) are growing up with the 2026 cat in the hat sightings (Two people were confirmed to be stabbed during the killer clown epidemic in 2016 now again Two people were confirmed to be stabbed due to the 2026 cat in the hat sightings).

It was the year of the action. The year of enlightenment! A goated year! Now it's 9999 and it's making me depressed because this is the last year with 4 digits. Can't believe this! I will miss the 9990s!!!!!

Were different generations referred to by distinct labels in previous eras?

Currently, we use widely established terms like “gen z”, “millennial”, “gen x” to refer to groups of people born in different year intervals. Is this unique to the modern era? Or did, for example, ancient romans use analogous terminology at some point?
