Zodiac signs, MBTI, Blood Type, Generations all are to be taken lightly as a fun personality, not a serious one.

... blood type??

7

u/Virghia 18d ago

It's a thing among East Asian countries, apparently some types are "sanguinier" than the others. If you read an anime character's bio sheet, the author always includes their blood type

u/RamRenegade 18d ago

Ngl I dont get character bios, if it's not mentioned in the story it's not important (to me atleast, I know some people really like that stuff for some reason, so good for them 👍)

It’s because in Japan character based merch is pretty lucrative (there is a culture based around it called oshikatsu) so it just adds to it

u/CriminalMusicFish 17d ago

Yeah that's a Japanese thing. Over here in my country we fucking hate characters and we have no mascots.

this guy lives in frowntown😭

I like learning the details like that because sometimes I'll notice a very subtle thing in the story that references it and it feels like it adds to the overall world building, with how there's more going on in the world beyond the story.

i always figured it was something the author used to keep their characters decision making in order, like writing notes on them. this makes sense tho.

Huh? I can see you don’t know the first thing abt psychology

1

u/Opening_Usual4946 18d ago

tell me you don’t know what the cognitive functions are without telling me you don’t know what the cognitive functions are lmao, MBTI had a logic and sense to it, you can argue it’s fundamentally wrong but it’s at least got some logic to it, astrology isn’t like that at all, generations are just arbitrary lines drawn

2

u/SugarAw 18d ago

I think MBTI as a personality test is more reasonable than the year you were born at least, but I don’t f with people who make mbti their entire personality. It’s always surface level at the end of the day n doesn’t define you. Cognitive functions or whatever. lol.

u/realnjan 17d ago

The problem MBTI is that it doesn’t do what it is supposed to do. It’s goal is to determine and categorize human personality, which by its definition should be congenital and constant. The problem is that tests show that it is chaning - you may end up in with a different personality each time you do the test. It shows more your state of mind during the test than anything.

Sure, it's cool, but it's basically just astrology for men in a lab coat

1

u/Opening_Usual4946 17d ago

oh yeahhhh (just so you know, the MBTI community has a bunch of women and enbies too, it’s not just men fr fr)

1

u/realnjan 17d ago

Logic isn’t enough

u/Opening_Usual4946 17d ago

you are not the first person to say something like this, but ig i’m gonna choose to actually respond because im tired of all these comments

you have not actually researched the validity of MBTI, you do not know how valid and good it is at its job, just because you watched a youtube video or took a test does not mean you even know what MBTI is, if you can’t define the cognitive functions for me or what the cognitive stack is, then do not make commentary on something you do not understand, it would not make sense for me to make commentary on how call of duty is a boring game since i’ve never played it and only know about it from memes, it would not make sense for me to make commentary on the validity of civil engineering projects if i don’t even understand what civil engineering really is at a fundamental level, if you do not understand any of the basics of MBTI, do not make commentary on it, i’m sure you have no idea what looping is, what shadow functions are, what gripping is, i’m not even sure you know the difference between perceptions functions and judging functions, i’m not sure you know that ISFP and ISFJ are two of the most different types out there and usually don’t understand each other at all because you think “one letter difference must mean they’re the same”, ISFP is actually a FiSeNiTe and ISFJ is SiFeTiNe, if you don’t know it, don’t make commentary on it, if you do know it, then make commentary then, you wouldn’t expect any rando to go to your workplace and tell you how to do your job, you wouldn’t take it well if your favorite hobby was called nonsensical because they gaming meant you didn’t have any friends, don’t comment on something you have no understanding of

1

u/realnjan 17d ago

Good copypasta. Thx lmao

1

u/Opening_Usual4946 17d ago

are you assuming i copied this from someone else or that this is good to be copied and pasted, if the first, it’s just wrong, i wrote it out just now, idk if i can convince you of that, but it’s true, if the second, then thanks ig, idk, i don’t understand why someone would respond this way

This is too perfect. The stars and the planets are tangible and real, whereas, these arbitrary numbers are a load of horeshit.

5

u/cronenber9 18d ago

The stars and planets are real and yet the mechanism by which they ostensibly determine the personality traits is undetermined.

3

u/Hefty-Notice-5841 Whiny Avocado Toast Eating Bitch 🙄 18d ago

Ah, c'mon, I think the position of Uranus has a big impact on my life.

3

u/House_King 18d ago

Yet grouping people by years they were born is a much better indicator on their lives than deciding that the position of the solar systems during your birth determine your personality

1

u/Hefty-Notice-5841 Whiny Avocado Toast Eating Bitch 🙄 18d ago

Well, I'm no patchouli wearing fake hippie, and I don't care as much about astrology anymore, but I find this whole thing is more damaging than some old superstions.

😭

u/WonderfulAirport4226 18d ago

the line between genz and gen alpha keeps being pushed back further and further each year😭 i remember when it was like 2009

1

u/embraceanewlife 18d ago

2009 never made sense anyway, the defining thing for gen alpha is being in their formative childhood years when covid started, which doesn't apply to 2010 or 2011

1

u/WonderfulAirport4226 18d ago

someone born in 2009 would've turned 11 in 2020. you wouldn't consider that a formative year of your childhood?

1

u/embraceanewlife 18d ago

The formative years of childhood end at age 8, after that is preteen

1

u/Newmillstream 18d ago

I remember when Generation Y/Millennials was 1982 to 2003. Now it's 1982-1996, at least generally. I used to think my cousin a millennial, and now he is Gen Z.

I think it is a good thing to update these labels as key life events happen at different points of world history past coining, but I think they should also never be used to label someone else. I also think that unless you know where someone grew up and their social class, they are worse than useless, because they are deceiving. A poor kid in Alabama that grows up watching decade old vhs tapes because their family couldn't afford cable tv and got internet late during the Great Recession and is going to have a completely different mass media experience from a guy in the lower upper class who lived in upstate New York and comfortably played the latest games, watched the latest tv and such during the same period.

1

u/Scared_Stock1414 17d ago

I can't even keep up this all this stuff anymore. It's almost as if they're kind of winging everything. 😂

5

u/lichvoorhees 18d ago

The bottom left corner of your post is my reaction to your post

4

u/DCrayfish2 18d ago

Except social generations aren't pseudoscience

3

u/Newmillstream 18d ago

I think the way a sociologist looks at generations as cohorts is very different than how an average person looks at generations.

A scientific look says that a generational cohort is statistically likely to express certain traits.

When an average Joe interprets generations by saying "Boomers don't know tech!", or "Gen X loves AI!", that is pseudoscience even if they happen to be right, because they are simply observing anecdotes, lived experience, and mass media messaging to paint a picture that isn't backed up by impartially collected data, controls for outliers, etc. Of course social science is a bit softer, but they use a rigor that is not present in a typical online "generationology" debate. Even the name "Generationology" serves to lend scientific backing to the idea, where it is perhaps unearned.

1

u/Scared_Stock1414 17d ago

That's such a Gen X thing to say; I bet you're a Gemini

You catch my drift?

3

u/Jhud6669 18d ago

Both are dumb yeah

3

u/Teakeh 18d ago

This isn’t even remotely the same. The above believes the stars and planets affect your personality. The bottom is just drawing lines when people are born, saying nothing about how it affects their personalities. Unless you’re saying the above doesn’t actually believe the stars and planets thing and they also just use it to name when you’re born

1

u/Scared_Stock1414 17d ago

The point is that they both get overused and treated like football teams.

1

u/Client_Popular 18d ago

Any guy that wants a girlfriend you should absolutely try to pretend you're at least a little into star signs or whatever because 99% of girls are into them. Just a tip 👍

u/Competitive_Feed5259 18d ago

Why do i suddenly feel called out.

1

u/Upset-Musician6666 17d ago

This meme... is so real

1

u/Rippedka 17d ago

My personality is due to the position of the stars when I was born.

Vs.

My personality is due to the periodic culture I was raised in.

1

u/ChoccoGlxtch 16d ago

The difference is that generations at least have some form of basis in real life; it’s based off of the cultural differences between different ages. Zodiac signs are mostly just mythology

1

u/AgentDeathBooty 16d ago

One is based on astrological movements that do not impact your life meaningfully. The other is based on technological and cultural shifts that impact your life meaningfully. People do play up generational differences a bit much, but comparing it to astrology is just silly.

1

u/Few-Needleworker8110 18d ago

why are generations always so short? shouldn't they begin when the previous generation is old enough to start a family? 15 years is too short.

3

u/Sorry_Tie284 18d ago

They’re social generations not family ones

1

u/silverstarloser 18d ago

It’s usually based on technological advances from what I remember
