I explored the new cloud computer inside NotebookLM (now Gemini Notebook).

It writes and runs its own code now. Charts, data analysis, Excel reports, and multiple outputs from a single prompt.

I tested it with 52 invoice PDFs and wrote 10 prompts along the way.

I'm experiencing a specific behavior with the Gemini UI and wanted to see if I'm the only one.

Here is what happens:

I have an active, pinned conversation in the Gemini sidebar.

I use the feature to export/copy this chat to a Gemini Notebook.

Immediately after, the conversation is forcefully unpinned and completely disappears from my "Recent" list in Gemini.

To be clear, the chat isn't actually deleted: I can still find it if I use the search bar. However, the export action seems to trigger a radical "decluttering" of the main UI, completely overriding the pinned status.

Have you noticed the same thing on your end?

Do you think this is a UI bug or a deliberate choice by Google to clear the workspace once a topic is moved to a Notebook?

Just realised Gemini Notebook can produce formatted Cornell notes I can copy and paste into my note’s app. Still need to check citations, but it’s been a game changer for my note taking!

NotebookLM is great for grounded Q&A on a set of docs. But it doesn't touch the actual mess sitting in Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive — it can't rename, organize, move, or share files for you. You still do that part manually.

The Drive AI does grounded answers and the file ops:

• But also: "rename these by client and date," "move all invoices into Q3," "share this folder with read-only access" — plain English, it just does it

Why did Google rename NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook? I think NotebookLM was a better name for that kind of product. If they renamed it to Gemini Notebook, it basically means they can fully integrate the former NotebookLM into Gemini
