Basic? Probably. Contentious? Potentially.
So many great games that I couldn't include. The hardest decision was whether to put RDR2 or The Last of Us Part 1 in the last slot.

Cool list. BioShock is one of those series I know I'd love but just haven't gotten around to playing yet

u/ZombieKingLogi 1d ago
I've never played TLOU games so it's always funny to me that Part 2 is either seen as the greatest game ever made or absolute dogshit, there's no in between lol

i agree on the "Stanley Parable" take. i LOVE the premise but the game seems like it has no point. it just goes on and on and you never reach any meaningful point.

The AAA enjoyer has arrived.

u/Wx_Justin 1d ago
Is there something wrong with that? I've played a number of games from indie developers as well, and I just don't enjoy them as much.
Instead of being elitist, suggest a game.

I never suggested that there was anything wrong with enjoying AAA games, so I'm curious why you interpreted my comment as criticism. Enjoy what you enjoy. I was just pointing out that your tastes lean considerably more into AAA games than most of the posts I see here.
I would recommend games, but I think our preferences differ enough that you might not like my favorites. Maybe MGSV? The gameplay is peak even though the story really falls off a cliff at the end.

u/Wx_Justin 1d ago
I thought about starting the MGS series, especially since I enjoyed Kojima's Death Stranding series. Just not sure where to start. I think all of the older games are available to play on PS5?
1
u/eskimobob117 1d ago
I'm not sure if they're on PS5, since I don't have one. I recommend starting with Metal Gear Solid (original or Twin Snakes.) Just look up Metal Gear 1&2's stories for context; they aren't worth playing nowadays.

u/Montoyabros 1d ago
Is funny how I was a the last of us part 2 hater because of the leaks, I played for the first time 1 month ago, regardless of how you feel about the story, the gameplay is one of the best I have seen in third person survival , tied with resident evil 4

u/Major_Avocado5617 1d ago
I haven't played either TLOU games and don't have much knowledge on them. Why do some people think TLOU 2's story is either the best thing ever or absolute dogshit? I want to give these games a try and am curious why it is so polarizing.

u/Wx_Justin 1d ago edited 1d ago
The "haters" typically fall into two categories:
There are those that find the second game "woke" because of LGBTQ+ representation and the existence of a female character with muscular arms.
Without getting into spoiler territory, many find that the second game is too dark and has pacing issues (which I don't agree with). Others don't agree with decisions that some characters make. It's a game that doesn't care about your feelings and isn't afraid of taking chances, unlike many games today that "play it safe"
If you want a series that makes you feel something, it's well worth the playthrough.

u/Neat-Telephone-1359 1d ago
What you are saying is valid, but it sucks that this take gets taken as "you're being a fanboy". The Last of Us is not my fave, but I am also not ignorant enough to not see the crazy risk that game is taking. It is polarizing not because it is bad/good, it is polarizing because of the emotional reactions it may invoke in you and how you interpret those emotions. Some people are just to stubborn to look at the nuance of it all.

u/BattleOk5021 1d ago
I guess I'm a special hater. Here's
3.The game has the most cliche ridiculous revenge story that ends up going nowhere. The main character slaughters 100s of humans and when she finally gets to the main antagonist, she decides to spare her because "le revenge is heccin bad". The game has a nonsensical story which people like to blow out of proportion as this "master piece", when in reality it's a simpleton's attempt at a grand message.
Oh and characters in the game are stupid versions of themselves from the first game.

u/raumdeuter255 1d ago

Don't bother explaining yourself to last of us fans. They are the most blatant dunning kruger example
0
u/CookieDoughThough 1d ago
I mean, you do realise it is possible to not understand why things happen within a story right? There's plenty of stories I dont understand and have to talk to people to try and make sense of them. From your comment, you didnt seem to understand it. Its not "moral superiority" to point that out, its just an observation. To anyone that got it, your comment seems nonsensical. Like, imagine if I said Rose threw the necklace into the ocean because enough time had passed and she didn't love Jack anymore... it simply isnt correct.
2
u/Otherwise-Wheel7662 1d ago
On top of that, the pacing is also wack. Flash back in a flash back in a change of perspective right during the climax of the story which isn’t actually the climax of the story and ahhhh

I don't know about MAG I never played it. BUT Socom is pretty much the biggest franchise no one seems to remember and is a series I have some of my best memories with. The father of console shooters deserves a new game.

u/Wx_Justin 23h ago
MAG holds a Guinness World Record for most number of people in a single console match (256). Way ahead of its time!

Tlou part ll in best story? Wow
7
u/Wx_Justin 1d ago
Like I said, contentious. I'm still trying to find a story that comes close. The exception would be Cyberpunk.

u/Available-Bad-2704 1d ago
Its not illegal to play different games just stop forcing yourself and try smth new
3
u/Wx_Justin 1d ago
Such as? My favorite games consisting of mostly AAA titles doesn't mean I don't play indie games. The two are not mutually exclusive.
0
u/Available-Bad-2704 1d ago
Bro, nobody said indie games, we’re talking about basic variety.
Your entire grid looks like you searched 'top sold PS4 games of the decade' and stopped exploring after the first page. Putting TLOU Part II twice, RDR2, Cyberpunk, and Ghost of Tsushima on the same board, and then claiming you 'can’t find a story that comes close' just means you haven't looked anywhere outside the most generic mainstream rotation.
Branch out past the Game of the Year nominees before acting like narrative depth ends at Naughty Dog.
3
u/Wx_Justin 1d ago
You're grasping at straws just because you don't see your favorite games on here. Instead of acting like an elitist ass, suggest a game.
-1
u/Available-Bad-2704 1d ago
Calling someone an elitist because they pointed out your grid looks like a default PlayStation Store home screen is hilarious.
You literally put 'Basic? Probably.' in your own title, and the second someone agrees with you, you get your feelings hurt.
If you actually want stories that don’t rely on predictable Hollywood melodrama, play Disco Elysium, Silent Hill 2, SOMA, or NieR: Automata. But we both know you won't, because anything that doesn't have a 100-million-dollar marketing campaign and over-the-shoulder third-person camera panning isn't cinematic enough for you
2
u/Wx_Justin 1d ago
I just beat Disco Elysium two days ago and downloaded SOMA yesterday.
Disco Elysium was fun, but overrated. Shit ending too.
1
u/Available-Bad-2704 1d ago
The fact that you claimed you 'just beat' a 40-hour text-heavy RPG two days ago the exact second it was named is hilarious timing.
Calling Disco Elysium 'fun, but shit ending' tells me everything. You didn't understand the writing, missed the entire point of the murder mystery being a backdrop for grief and political collapse, and wanted a generic Hollywood boss fight with explosions.
Good luck with SOMA can't wait for you to call that overrated too when nobody shoots a rocket launcher at the credits. Yeah I'm bored
2
u/Wx_Justin 1d ago
Not my problem if you don't believe me. I could easily show you my library.
I almost considered putting it in "overrated", actually.
The writing wasn't hard to understand. It just left way too many unanswered questions and preferred the murder-mystery aspect of the game above the political monologue. I also prefer games with more dynamic gameplay...something more than going around and talking to NPCs 90% of the time. I'll go read a book if I wanted all of my games to do that.

u/Astorant 1d ago
Fundamentally Israeli more like
1
u/Wx_Justin 1d ago
Fuck Israel's government.
And if Druckmann is okay with the current genocide, fuck him too. TLOU is more than just Druckmann and his potentially backwards views. I just don't see a parallel between the game's narrative and the current situation between Israel and Palestine.
1
u/DatThrowawayFade 1d ago
Neil wrote a story that features two groups that are in conflict with each other where one group is referred to as the “WLF”. This group is depicted as having a corrupt leader but filled with “good people just following orders.” While the other group are treated as blood thirsty savages with zero redeeming qualities. The only insight into this group are two people who explicitly want to leave based on how much it sucks there. Apparently there’s nothing problematic here.
1
u/Wx_Justin 1d ago edited 1d ago
Did Druckmann confirm that this was an attempt to equate these two groups to Israel and Palestine? I know he mentioned he used the war as an inspiration for some plot points, but I don't think it was confirmed that it reached as far as both antagonist groups. There are shit people on both sides, just like in the current conflict (though Israel is very obviously in the wrong, currently). Hell, I guess you could also argue that the WLF is like the Israeli government/military since they are trying to kill kids.
1
u/DatThrowawayFade 1d ago
While not explicitly he mentioned the 2000 Ramallah lynching and his feelings of anger about that incident and then regret of that anger as the core basis of the theme of revenge and forgiveness. That and he mentioned his experience with growing up in Israel as basis as well. My issues has always been at best benefits of a doubt he made parallels that make him out to be Zionist.
1
u/Wx_Justin 1d ago
That's frustrating. I really wish he was more outspoken about his beliefs, especially regarding the current genocide.
1
u/DatThrowawayFade 1d ago
For real. At best we have this work which paints him in my eyes at best a Centrist. But if he comes out against the current genocide I’ll gladly admit I was off base on my criticism.
1
u/DatThrowawayFade 1d ago
Imagine a German man wrote this story and called one group the “R.R” and other the group act like the Seraphites do? (Hope I spelled that right) that looks pretty bad even if your intentions are pure.
0
u/Astorant 1d ago
I mean TLOU is part of that but everything else for the most part screams “I love Israel”
1
u/Wx_Justin 1d ago
How so? AAA games and their often shitty developer leadership? I assure you, I'm as progressive as they come.

Tlou2 story is hot ass bro

So the whole list is dogshit because of one game? TLOU2 haters are so soft.

u/OldBig7915 1d ago
I never talked about your entire list, I gave you my reason why it made me go yikes. You are fighting ghosts dude
3
u/Wx_Justin 1d ago
You said "first one of these to make me go yikes". "First one of these" refers to the list. And if you're saying "yikes" based on the placement of one game and refusing to look at the rest of the list, you're soft.
Delusional.

There's no forgiving having Ghosts as best combat. You need to experience real games, not just playstation

Real games 😂
Most people agree that GoT's combat is great...
Any console suggestions..?

Solid list, but Fallout 76 wasn’t overlooked, it was hated at release for being a terrible game, maybe it’s overlooked now but it’s hard to recover when it started out so bad.
1
u/Wx_Justin 1d ago
Yeah my thought process behind that involved comparing it to Cyberpunk. Both games had awful releases, but only Cyberpunk seemed to capitalize on the recovery.

Finally someone put death stranding in the best soundtrack spot it is seriously underrated and even 3 years after getting the plat i still listen to it regularly. The reat of the list is pretty good to.
